  1. Deserved? No way. They didn't have the resume that year for an at-large at all. Had to win that game against Ohio and they blew it big time.

  2. Highly unlikely the Big Ten would entertain adding a program as established as UB, and the gulf in funding would be massive. Big East is a horrible fit for UB. The Big East is a basketball conference of private schools. UB is a major 30,000 student public. UB has also committed to staying FBS in football which the Big East is not. There is no fit there.

  3. You mean move to a conference with directional schools like Central Florida, South Florida, East Carolina and Southern Methodist?

  4. The selection committee is always gonna favor major teams. Which is why as inconsistent as they are Indiana will get in. Texas will get in. St. Johns will get in. They are supposed to use all the metrics in their decision making and not just lean on one. Thing is I think they don’t actually watch teams and games throughout the season. They lean too much on numbers that can be manipulated to support any argument. Relating this to us...currently I think we are safely in. And that we are playing for seeding at this point. I feel like somehow we are still gonna be seeded a seed or 2 too low though. Our non conference slate took a big hit when WVU ish the bed all year. And it wouldn’t shock me that we got penalized for that and not blowing teams out during conference play, like stupid Wofford has done. Relating this all to us in the future...the model is there. Oats has done a great job of scheduling in the non conference. We know teams won’t go to us so let’s go to them. Then schedule cupcakes at home. Put a non conference tourney in there and we should have good metrics. Then on great years dominate the MAC. In down years still be in contention to secure the auto bid. The beauty of playing in a mid major conference is that we always have the hope of winning the conference tournament. Bc let’s face it, a team as dominate as Gonzaga won’t happen all the time. So in most years the conference will always be up for grabs in March. It’s always an uphill battle for mid majors but at the end of the day a 3/4 game winning streak in March is all you need to go dancing. And usually in most mid majors there is no one team that perennially runs the conference. Unless your name is Gonzaga.

  5. All the polls can be confusing. On our site someone posted the NET rankings and the criteria used in making the ranking. But when the selection committee makes their picks you still are left to wonder if they will still favor the power conferences and conferences that are more nationally know??? It is still pretty confusing but with UB in the mix it is still exciting and keeps the interest of all our fans. On ranking of conferences the BPI has the Mt. West with Nevada #8 and the MAC #15. Thr RPI has the MAC #9 and the MT West #15. The NET rankings have Wofford #14 UB #15 Nevada #23 Arizona St #68 and Indiana #55 just to name a few. The only reason I mention Indiana is some sports media types have them possibly in the NCAA’s and they are like 6-12 in the Big10 with not a very good overall record. Another sports show had a discussion about the mid majors and the higher conferences and the point came up again that some of the mid majors with really good overall records in out of conference and in conference should not be picked over the teams in the big conferences even if they have a bad record just because the mid majors have not played a top schedule!!! The committee and a lot of the sports media types just want to see the big time teams and conferences and really do not care about the mid majors. The bias is alive and well and not sure it is ever going to change. The whole process is still very confusing and exasperating to the average fans like us that root for mid major teams that might not get rewarded. Still a fun time for us UB supporters. Go Bulls!!!!

  6. I’m sorry but slant routes, in routes and routes across the middle (like a guantlet drill is) need to be thrown hard bc of small windows. Screw Steve Smith...receivers in the NFL have to catch rockets plain and simple and if these kids at the combine can’t catch then their stock should fall. Smith was sticking up for wide outs. Completely biased. Also I forgot who tweeted it but scouts and NFL front office heads said Jackson’s arm while good isn’t the best they’ve seen. So for Smith to interrupt a combine get off a set and do this...he was in the wrong.

  7. I think Steve Smith is giving good advice. If the receiver can’t catch your balls, you need to adjust. The point is to throw so the receiver can catch it.

  8. I mean, a 2 spot jump is pretty good, but I am still confused how Nevada still ended up above us. They just proved that against quad 1 teams, they can't win.

  9. well, if we were "next four out" and beat 2 teams (by huge margins) that were in (but barely), it's very reasonable to be listed as "in" now. We need to win these final 2. It's never easy when in a strong conference and having to play the final one on the road. Hopefully we can jump to the 3 seed in the process!

  10. We were better than most MAC championship winners that year and did decently out of conference (I think we beat 3-4 eventual conference champs that year) but we finished in like a 7 way tie for 2nd with 7 conference losses. Even with that being a very good year for the MAC, and our RPI being something like upper 40's there was no way the committee was going to show us any love. Even in the NIT we were made to play a play in game.

  12. For every Butler there's a George Mason. We'll need to plan our after party carefully.

  13. Soon we'll have spring practice in Amherst and not Orchard Park!

  14. Wow, you’re extremely impressive. I feel honored that you even took your extremely valuable time to give your very highly regarded opinion. Once again this conversation is about Alumni Arena. The future of the program, and how that correlates to any changes that will be done to the arena. The parking was a minor aspect that got turned into the main subject.

  15. I am all for being optimistic, but we've shown, ala Northern Illinois that we can get really lazy and let other teams push us around. We just need to be sharp

  16. Lol. You are all worried about Ohio? We are going to destroy them. We aren't the underdog no more. Let them get excited. I am on the hating Ohio train too. They are the worst. Which will make this game more fun to watch them get destroyed

  17. Maryland just lost to Michigan. If I’m not mistaken that’s their second loss of the week.

  18. Well, in hindsight, maybe UB basketball would've forever been changed...maybe Reggie doesn't get fired and Bobby/Nate brought in, and we wouldn't be where we are. It sucked losing that game, up 4 in the final minute, Idbihi corner 3 at the end of regulation, put back by Williams at the buzzer. Oh well, can't change the past. We're better off now and loving the current moment!

  19. Aside from Bortz getting called for the outlandish T and the winning shot all I remember is yelling at Reggie through the tv to call a time out and being pissed that he didn’t. That game was a huge bummer.
