  1. Let's play Syracuse at home every game but play it at Key Bank (with no rental fees) and make tickets $10. Problem solved!

  2. It will be a 9-hour all-night drive for us, but we'll be in Tulsa for Friday's game.

  3. Maybe that's the silver lining. Let the team continue their underdog mentality. Go out and prove to everyone why they could have been a 4.

  4. Bro, you should be practicing your golf putting instead of being at the watering hole, just in case you get a chance to win a trip for putting next March!

  5. With UB in the bracket, I can't fill out a bracket. My heart says national championship.

  6. Alright, this shit is enough. Go create another thread for Season Ticket holds to bitch and moan about paying $15 per game instead of $10 per game or whatever. Let's keep this about Nate's contract.

  7. Another greatly researched piece of information from the source. I guess Nate coached HS in the entire state of Michigan and not just at Romulus.

  8. Is that all? People on here are already complaining about the possibility of an increase in ticket price, yet all we have to do is pay teams to come in. I must be reading that incorrectly. Okay, I've got it. We want to pay for "good" teams to play at the AA, without an increase in ticket price, preferred parking and quick exit from the arena for all, while continuing to make sure that we pay for our top-notch coaching staff and try to improve our facilities to meet their needs. Now why didn't administration think that all up on their own?
    2 points
  9. That probably wouldn't be good, we'd have to pay to park/walk too far away and would have to leave early because there'd be too much traffic getting out of there. Also we'd hear about bad sight-lines because it's a hockey arena, not a basketball one so there'd be too much space between the seats and the floor.

  10. We could and would schedule better teams. But one problem. They will not play us.

  11. What better way to prepare for two possible opponents....watch them play each other just a few days before one of them has to travel (again) to play you. I’m liking this setup a lot better than having to deal with #12 Murray State and Ja Morant.

  12. The current price of season tickets is laughably low

  13. The team beat Arizona last year and returned all the star power. The second game of the year was a win over ranked West Virginia. Every season has seen a steady rise in attendance. It also coincides with how the teams tend to get better as the season progresses and the most meaningful games are late in the year. Why did it take so long for the attendance to follow? Isn't it curious how the attendance saw a rise as the competitive games started to happen. Remember when football had a big win and then everyone turned out for Army? Why did it take the basketball team so long to attract fans? If better teams were being played the people would have come out sooner. Tell me, what do you think the lowest attendance will be next year? How many will turn out next year to see a team like St. Francis or Dartmouth? You still expecting 6,500?

  14. How about trying to get Arizona st here with some kind of deal where UB goes there twice? There is a personal connection there. Same could be said for UCF (White), Michigan (Beilein), Auburn (Greene). It’s worth a try. The SIU swap was great...do it again. Try to get something going with San Francisco, Dayton, Richmond...there are at least 100 teams that are worth trying to get a deal with.

  15. Oats has spoken at LENGTH about the scheduling problems he faces. #1 Power conference teams don't like going on the road to mid-majors #2 Power conference teams don't like playing good mid-majors at all. You act like the program doesn't try and schedule big home games and conveniently ignore the multiple times the coach talks about how he tried to schedule big home games and no one will come.
    1 point
  16. I get your wise cracks but the schedule needs more home games and better home games if you want fans to pack it in. You don't have to have big names, you just need good teams that give good games. In the past the coaches have wanted to go on the road to play big names and make a name for Buffalo. Well now people know about Buffalo and the community turns out. Give the community something to see. No one wants to see blowouts and go three weeks between home games.

  17. Instead of this being about Oats signing on to stay at a substantial raise, people begin talking about what the buy out is and who would be willing to pay it. Oats said that he daughter is going into high school and he does not want to move now. That is a huge factor for coaches with young children. That is why Allen Greene left his family behind when he first went to Auburn. That is why Mark Alnutt's family is not coming to Buffalo until his children's school year is over because his son was going to be a senior in high school. That was part of the reason why Turner Gill left, his daughter was at Kansas. There is always more to why a coach leaves or stays in the background. Take Coach Oats at his word and be happy with it.

  19. My wife and I have center court aisle seats. I remember having gone to Alumni Arena to pick them out and you couldn’t ask for better seats. I think we paid about $325 for this season. That is dirt cheap. Even if the team was bad - which everyone knows was not the case, that is cheap cheap cheap entertainment. Raise the prices by a considerable amount now! Don’t veil the process in secrecy. This should have been decided in January not August or September.

  20. They were when they played at Alumni last year. These were the home games over the last two years.

  21. If those teams were on the schedule when it came out, many on here would surely complain just as you are now. Those teams don't move the needle. Coming in to this year, St. Francis was slated to be the top team in their league, SIU was supposed to be a solid mid-major, heck even WVU was supposed to be a huge ranked team on the road. As far as prices go, I don't even think that Canisius is as inexpensive as us and they can't beat their way out of a wet paper bag and the atmosphere there stinks. We've been completely spoiled yet many still complain. Oh well, maybe the boys will win their next 5 games and people on here can complain that they lost in the finals of the tourney or that they didn't win in the tournament by enough points.

  22. As coach said, when you play in the MAC (and mid-majors in general)...there aren't many quality wins to be had out there., only BAD losses.
    1 point
  23. You guys find something wrong with this team and program every day. I'm sure UB bball is avoiding playing better teams just so that you can complain about it. Most "big" teams are just begging to come to the AA so that they can get beat by a team who has bad "metrics".

  24. Sure, it doesn't mean that Siena's overall home schedule is better. But there is no doubt their OOC schedule is much better. We should be scheduling that good. The home schedule OOC has been horrible. If you're going to raise the cost of tickets you need to add better games. You can't simply say that the team will look better when they play games on TV. Fans deserve some good games at home.

  25. I promise to donate all the Final prize to UB athletics.

  26. Yep, some Big10 program would reach into their petty cash drawer to pay that buyout. Hopefully, as Nate says...his agent will just say "thanks but no thanks" to all calls. With all the recruiting scandals going on and nonsense.. coach has a great thing going here.

  27. Any "neutrals" may start the game rooting against UB because we're favorites. If we play against ASU, their rooting interest will change as soon as they get a glimpse of Hurley's antics.

  29. Yeah I know everyone is getting their seeding rant in but I still dont mind the 6. I find it fair if not slightly less than deserved. I think the 5 would have been the nice surprise. UB92 I know you are talking about wins, but even Id say I personally would look at more than just W/L totals. It probably hurts a bit that wins like the WVU didn't have the weight they could have had. And like you said conference absolutely plays into it. If we are even up one in the AAC (which is the conference that would make the most sense as far as jump goes one of these years) it would make a huge difference because of the conference opponents alone. I don't know what would have happened if UB had won all of their games. I imagine beating Marquette on the road and perhaps not winning so many games with close scores in the MAC I could have seen a 3 seed. But I guess it depends. And probably not even worth stressing over. The way UB was moving up the rankings to 14, I dont doubt they could have moved into the Top 10 after Syr/Marquette and if they never lost might have been even in the 5-6 range. Then I think you are talking about a 3 seed. As it stands and like others have said, a 6 seed puts us in the 21-24 range in the committees eyes and I don't think that's a terrible or disrespectful view of our team.

  30. I'm over here in disbelief that garbage Oklahoma got a 9 seed.......and is even in the tournament at all.
    1 point
  31. The narrative is fun but both coaches have a tendency to let the players play (within games). SJU has Ponds and stars can take over in March but I’d rather skip the distractions and let ASU lose the play-in.
    1 point
  32. I want to rant a bit about the seeding for UB. It is outrageous that they are a 6 seed. Three losses and a 6 seed? And the selection committee chair said that they had no issues in seeding UB as a 6. This tells me that if UB won ALL OF THEIR GAMES they would only have been a 4, at best. After all, the wins vs. BGSU and NIU wouldn't have been worth that much. Certainly Marquette on the road would have been worth something. But I can't see, with what I see now, that UB would be better than a 4. UB's RPI was a 9. A 9...and they are still a 6 seed. Mississippi State and Wisconsin...both with 10 losses...are a 5 seed. I know there are arguments for both teams, but 10 losses is 10 losses. Those teams have plenty of opportunities (especially at home) for those Quad 1 wins. Wisconsin's 1st two road games were losses this year. If UB had their profile, but were in the AAC, they would have a 3 or 4 seed...I am convinced. This whole NET ranking, RPI, seeding, etc. is a very complex and highly coupled set of non-linear equations. At least 350 of them (one for each team) and there are many, many solutions. However, the solution is dependent on the initial condition. And we all know the initial condition (i.e. how the schools are ranked initially) has almost everything to do with the name on the jersey and the conference you represent. UB's initial condition (in the MAC) will NEVER BE GOOD ENOUGH to get them (or anyone else in their conference) a higher seed. At the end of the day, they need a better initial condition. The only way to do that is a better conference. The system is set up only for the power conferences. The mid-majors and below have to fight for the scraps...and be happy for it when a team like Belmont gets in over someone like NC State. Sure...the committee cited quad 1 and, in some cases, quad 2 records for the reasons that Indiana, NCST, etc. didn't get in. But you can bet that the lobbying has already started to tweak the NET formula in favor of some of those teams. After all, if it doesn't serve the NCST or Indiana of the world (two former tournament winners), then it isn't doing its job! (I say that sarcastically, full well knowing it is truth). So...Bulls. You were underseeded. I can't believe you are a six. You were slighted. Go out there and show the world that you deserved more than a 6. It is us against the world. They don't believe in you. No one believes in you...but yourselves and your city. Show them why they were wrong and how wrong they were!!

  34. There is a travel ban for any NY state travel to North Carolina or Mississippi. When Oats and Hodgson recruited Harris they had to fly to VA and take a car to Greensboro. Based on recent news reports this year, there were some SUNYs that were fundraising money to get to D2/D3 championships in NC, since they could not use their normal budget for travel.

  35. What an amazing end to MAC play over the last few days. The women's team wins...then the men's team wins! Coming into the season, I doubt that many thought that the women's team, after having lost their greatest senior class in school history, would have been able to pull off the win. In doing so, they had to go through a top 100 team, followed by two likely NCAA at-large teams. We knew what we'd get out of CD and Summer, especially at tournament time (and yes, they were spectacular). Over the past week, what a huge growth spurt Hannah Hall showed. She was on fire yesterday and showed excellent skills as a future court general for the team. Biggest props to Autumn Jones, who received very little time throughout the whole season, couldn't seem to find her shot, yet still was a monster in MAC week, especially on Friday vs. CMU (and in my opinion, the difference in that game). Coach FLJ and staff were marvelous, going to the 1-3-1 on Friday, seemingly confusing CMU, and just getting great buy-in out of the entire team. She set them up with a daunting pre-conference schedule and it paid dividends in the end. They could be quite dangerous, just as they were last year, if they play as they did this week! The men's team was going to be a monsterous team, we all knew it. Did we think 31-3 good? I can't say that I would've counted on 31 wins. A MAC title? Yes. 31-3 knowing the challenging pre-MAC schedule? Doubtful. What more can be said about this team? People bashed the team on here game in and game out. The expectations were so high, even winning wasn't good enough to many. Winning after 40 minutes by double digits wasn't good enough if there were periods of less than stellar play. "Bench Harris" and "Harris sucks", were chanted by the masses. In the end, he and the team showed what their true colors are. They are a team who have a ton of great weapons. Yes, Harris may suck on a given day or stretch. So might Perk, like last night. CJ's shot might be off, but he'll show the ice water in the veins come crunch time. You can't stop all of them. Graves might go off. Dontay might go off. Even Davonte hit major 3's in games. Montell could give double figure points even. It's hard to stop them all for 40 minutes. They have worn teams down with fast paced offense, and tightly contested defense. No matter what happens from this point, whether it's 6 wins or 0, there's no doubting that this is the best team in UB basketball history. Anyone who says otherwise is a damn fool. Being a ranked team for the entire season, winning tons of challenging road games to "big" teams, going undefeated at home (again), and winning another MAC title en route to 31 wins before NCAA tourney time should prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt. The fans? They've finally figured out what a good thing looks like. The community showed up when students were out of town. The women's attendance has been great, even without much student support at the AA. The people showed up to Cleveland, outnumbering their opponent in every game. It was great to see so many blue and white shirts, flags, UB logos (new, old and very old!). Nate has re-signed. Let's be happy about it. UB has put their best foot forward with regard to his new deal. A half dozen years ago our coach was somewhere around $200k and the assistants had to be around 100k and less. Now our head coach is going to be at $800k+ and surely the assistants are way, way above the old assistant prices and quite probably above the old head coaches' salary. They all are happy here, and rightfully so. 4 league titles in 5 years, a first for the league. Does that mean that tomorrow is guaranteed for them in a UB outfit? No, nothing ever is, but all we can do is continue to support and not be afraid to pony up to the best of our abilities to the excellence funds of both programs. Let's enjoy this week (and hopefully beyond). Go Bulls!

  37. 6 seed... So 21-24 overall seed. Could be a 5, but doesn't seem out of line, or particularly disrespectful. As for bracket locations, I'm out in the LA area, so Anaheim would be sweet. I also have a business trip Wed/Thur in Ft Worth TX... Hmmmmmmm.....

  38. You do not have to as a current season ticket holder have to renew now. Personally I think it’s a great way to express your support for the program’s coaches etc. so I did just that for the for the first time. And I’ve had season tickets going back to the 90s. On the other hand, wait if you prefer until you get your invoice in the fall. Either way your choice.

  39. Program is growing. Season tickets will be in more demand. Prices will go up and new policies will have to be put in place that weren't needed when the team drew 3,000 per game. These are all good things. All I'm reading is STHs who want the program to grow and be successful, but not if it means paying a few bucks more per game.

  40. LINK: Big 4 Basketball Update: Buffalo earns six seed, awaits Arizona State/St. John’s winner The Bulls deserved a five seed but in the end, it won't make much of a difference. I would almost rather them be a six taking on Arizona State/St. John's than be a five taking on Murray State. Ja Morant is the real deal and I'm glad UB avoided him.

  44. I am no fan of the foul mouthed Bonnies’ hoodlums but I was rooting for the team. We want to build and are building a great college basketball culture in WNY. Getting two teams in the Big Dance would have only furthered that growth. And as far as those foul mouthed hoodlums are concerned, I have a lot of friends who went to Bona and are Bonnie’s fans and to a person they were appalled by the conduct of their fans in Olean. One told me he even wrote the president encouraging the administration to rein in the ugliness.
