  1. This is a bad poll. Lots of binary choices that are NOT binary in reality. I will not vote in it unless you decide to re-write it in a non-biased way.

  2. I chatted with Tripathi briefly on the court after the women won in Cleveland and this is basically the gist of what I said. I thanked him for supporting athletics and mentioned how it's so important that the public perception of the University be bolstered by successful big time athletics to more closely match the demonstrated academic success of the University. Basically, we're the #28 public institution in the nation, ahead of places like Minnesota, but no one know us. The athletics success has helped so much in swaying public perception across the country of the university and that will have a positive impact on recruiting faculty, recruiting students, and soliciting alumni donations. He agreed and said that the impact they've been able to measure has been massive.

  3. I listed to Howard and Jeremy this morning. Only talked UB men and women for at least an hour and a half. It was the main topic of their show. On the drive home WGR were talking 100% UB Bulls. Talking matchups with ASU or St. Johns. Every single caller wanted to talk about UB. Talking about the recruits coming in next year, and the the long term possibilities. Basically, the Bulls were being treated like a legitimate companion to the Bills and Sabres. There was a discussion on who you think the most important Sports personalities in Buffalo are. Many people felt #1 was either Eichel/Dahlin or Josh Allen. #3 or #4 was Nate Oats. I will admit I don't know what Schopp and Bulldog talked about. They have previously said they do not follow basketball (college or NBA) at all, so i don't know if they tried to talk UB or instead debate which third string tackle the Bills should sign next. This may only last until the weekend, but never, at any point did I think UB basketball could be more than a weekly interview of Nate Oats on Howard and Jeremy and a 5-10 minute segment. To see basically the entire day dedicated to actual discussion of the Bulls was fantastic. At work today I had people talking to me about the Bulls because they know I'm a fan. One colleague started a water cooler discussion about how she loves CJ and doesn't understand how Jordan can be so bad at freethrows. She's a Buff State alum and her husband went to Canisius. She has 0 UB connections.

  4. The title of this should be changed to "POLL: Do you Share An Opinion Reflecting My Own Or Not?"

  5. In Cleveland I said to Mark Alnutt, "Mark, we're going to be playing for the American championship in a few years, right?" His response was, "Oh yea, that would be nice!". You heard it here first. Confirmed. We're moving to the AAC. 😄 😄😉

  7. And it has nothing to do with not being entertained.

  8. There is a reason people leave early when it is a blowout win just like they do when it is a blowout loss...

  9. i think the difference is between existing fans and building a fan base. someone who comes because they're a casual basketball fan, but not a ub fan per se, is probably not going to be as psyched about watching a blowout of an inferior team they've never heard of.

  10. Wait, since when do people not get entertainment value from a blowout when UB wins? I love when UB blows teams out. WTF are you smoking mate? Or is this more of, "I think this, therefore everyone thinks this", just like your sham poll?

  11. Scheduling is always an uphill battle for mid majors. We always have to cater to the big programs. Even if those big programs are the bottom feeders of their big conferences. They want games on their terms. So there are things we can do to circumvent this: 1) Get into these non conference tournaments. These are vital. They give us potentially 3 games against solid teams. That's 3 less games we have to schedule. For example next year we are in the Charleston Classic with a good field (hopefully we play some combo of Miami, Florida, Xavier and UCONN). In 2020 we will be in one too that Nate in an interview slipped up and referenced. In the past we played Cincy and one of the Dakota St schools (can't remember which one but they beat us and were a tournament team at season's end). Also these tournaments provide exposure in terms of recruiting and media attention. 2) We can't be afraid to go on the road to take on big schools. Think Wofford this season. They played numerous tournament teams on the road. The only reason they got Carolina at home was because Roy Williams was gracious enough to play a return game because Wofford beat UNC at UNC the season before. Imagine if Boeheim did that for us next season. Doubt he would. 3) The MAC has to establish a home and home conference versus conference series. This will help ease scheduling. Also its becoming a thing that most big conferences are doing. We have to keep up with the haves and not become a have not. That's both us as a program and as a conference. The MAC must step up. 4) We have to keep our local rivalries going. That means the Big 4 schools. Those games should all bring in high attendance numbers. 5) I don't like games against non D-1 schools. To me they are glorified scrimmages that don't provide valuable experience. I understand we schedule them just to get a home date. And I understand that they are pretty much guaranteed wins which is better than losing to a Q 2 or 3 team at home. But I don't like them. The less of them I see the better. 6) In season home and homes are cool. I dig them. They aren't something I would do every season but I like them. Perhaps we can use some foresight and schedule teams who are on the come up. I can't stress this enough...good mid majors can't be afraid to schedule other good mid majors. 7) When I attended UB we got Pitt and Rutgers to come to AA. I see no reason why we can't get a team like Northwestern, Penn St, or Temple to come in. Obviously we'd have to pay so then it becomes a money issue. So whats the answer, is it bringing in sub 200/non D-1 teams just for a home date or shelling out some cash to buy games? Maybe the answer is one season dish the cash then the next penny pinch. Those are just some thoughts. Our schedule this season was suppose to be better but WVU had a miserable season. St. Frances, PA failed to win their league. SIU underachieved and subsequently fired their coach. But the construction of the schedule to me was solid.

  12. What we can’t have is a disengaged Perkins. His actions at the end of the BG were unbecoming of a senior. We need him focused and not in foul trouble. Jeremy Harris making outside shots takes this team to another level and allows him to be a duel threat of being able to drive and hit outside shots. Jayvon is the unsung player that can make shots. CJ will hopefully be CJ. Dontay just bring the fire and defense. Jordan can’t be afraid to drive and get fouled. Yes his shooting at the line is an issue but that can’t deter him. If we can get whichever team in foul trouble that’s great. Any contributions we get out the freshmen would be a bonus. Lets go Buffalo!

  13. He retweeted someone saying that he already made his decision, so I don't think the outcome of the game will have any influence on it.

  14. Just spit balling here, but men's attendance went up 30,000 tickets this year. What's an average ticket... $20? That means we raked in an additional $600,000 or so. That's most of Oats' salary. Now, a lot of that might be students, which are free, but theoretically, revenue took a large jump.

  15. Im probably too greedy this season with all the bucket list things I wanted to see from UB in my life time getting checked off this year. But one of the next ones Ive always wanted was a UB player drafted in the modern NBA. CJ has a chance, probably as a late 2nd rounder, but anything, even the last pick would be amazing. March is where a lot of this can be decided as well. If he has an outstanding 2-3 games I can see him find a spot late on draft boards. At the start of the year I thought Harris was the most likely. He has the NBA game but he just needed that confident dominant conference season that he didn't have at all.

  18. Greenberg and Dakich are both douche bags. I'll never forget Dakich last year prior to the Arizona game shouting "Nate Oats, get out of the MAC while you can!" And it was coming from a failure of a coach.

  19. LaPhonso Ellis just raved about us. He has us going deep making a final 4 run. Spoke about our defense and the big 3. Seth Greenberg has ASU beating us. He says we take bad shots.

  20. If we’re a power mid major consistently we shouldn’t have a problem getting home and homes with teams like Dayton or St Louis. It gives both programs an opportunity for a high quality win and a loss wouldn’t be damaging to the resume. Edit: it may be a few years away but we can get there

  21. Welcome to the big time. Being the underdog is nice because if you lose...well you we're supposed to, so people will give you credit for how close to kept it, or the fight you put up. But if you want to be big time...that comes with expectations. No UB program has ever been in that position. Hell, it's been a long time since any Buffalo team (including Bills and Sabres) have been in that position.

  22. This UB team can beat any team in the country except maybe Duke, UVA, or the Zags. However to do so they need to lock it in for a full 40 minutes and they can't have half the team fall asleep. They were prone to this all year. UB is better than ASU and St. Johns, but they WILL lose if they do what they did for much of the MAC season and sleepwalk through games. We need an Akron effort. If they give a CMU effort they will get bounced fast. BUT, if we get that Akron effort, they should win their first game and have a very good shot at Texas Tech. I don't think Michigan is as good as many think (as MSU keeps showing us) and are beatable. Elite Eight will be difficult, but it also wouldn't be shocking if they make it there. But again...they cannot repeat the bad habits we saw from them during many MAC games. You can blow a 16 point lead vs BG and still win by 15. You cannot against Texas Tech or Michigan.

  23. This is all such nonsense. You keep screaming, "UB NEEDS TO PLAY BETTER TEAMS AT HOME!!!". And we're all like, "Yea, that would be great, I agree, but no one will come here and Nate has been trying." And your response is just, "YEA, BUT UB NEEDS TO PLAY BETTER TEAMS AT HOME!!!". Get off it man. We ALL want better home games, but they simply have not been there for the taking. Do you realize we were the first ranked team to play in most other MAC arenas in literally a decade or two? You want better mid major games at home...yea...well so do those better mid majors!!

  24. Alright, this shit is enough. Go create another thread for Season Ticket holds to bitch and moan about paying $15 per game instead of $10 per game or whatever. Let's keep this about Nate's contract.

  25. My wife and I have center court aisle seats. I remember having gone to Alumni Arena to pick them out and you couldn’t ask for better seats. I think we paid about $325 for this season. That is dirt cheap. Even if the team was bad - which everyone knows was not the case, that is cheap cheap cheap entertainment. Raise the prices by a considerable amount now! Don’t veil the process in secrecy. This should have been decided in January not August or September.

  26. the quality of the product... ub has been awesome. but the quality of the product - the games - includes the other teams. playing a bunch of directional michigans and random ohio teams doesn't seem likely to make for a compelling product to the general public at a higher price unless ub continues to be a top 25 team, starts bringing in some name home games, or the mac steps up their game.

  27. And if the team doesn't do too well next year are people going to come back? We graduate a lot of talent. I get paying $200 for a top-20 team but are people going to pay $200 to watch a team like we had in 2018 or 2017?

  28. For what it's worth. 2008-09 season tickets were $125 for alumni ($149 using inflation adjusted dollars, per CPI). Going back to 2006-07, it looks like the cheapest was $185 ($232 CPI), which does not include an alumni discount. The oldest that I saw was $100 per seat in 2001-02 ($142 CPI). This team is worth much more than $10-$20 in inflation adjusted dollars compared to teams in the past. I will wait for it to come out to complain, but that would not be acceptable. Unfortunately for me, it would not stop me from renewing which is the only recourse we have against such a policy. I honestly think about that a lot. I love winning. But I also loved the soccer team. Going to Canisius and Niagara, winning, and celebrating with Cicerone and crew with the Big 4 Shield was great. Stu was/is a wonderful coach. Some day I hope that we can bring back some teams.

  29. You act like Oats hasn't tried to get games from those conferences. He's lucky to have anyone play him at their home much less ours. No one is withholding your candy.
