  1. So I met with a former player the other day, one of my best friends as well. He had played under Leopold and Linguist. He didn’t have many great things to say about linguist at all. He said the majority of the team didn’t like his coaching style and said he was very unorganized. My friend also told me that he had full control of the offense and didn’t let the OC do much if at all. He’s now ran out of eligibility but still gets to practice with the team during spring ball. He loves Lembo and the consensus around the team is that Lembo is a great coach who gets along well with his players. My friend thinks the team is in really good hands with him

  2. I know we've had the conversation a hundred times but the current transfer system is rotten. Fans having to hope that "Hill will consider a return to BGSU as he explores his options" is a crummy spot to be in. Having to rerecruit your stars every year is a thankless one-way relationship. While I appreciate the players embracing the opportunity for "empowerment," there is a correction coming. A semi-pro sport with uninhibited free agent movement will not have longevity. Time will tell, people don't want to root for a random collection of mercenaries every year. Fans and donors make the world of college sports go 'round and fans are getting shorted right now. Without our dollars, college kids could absolutely play basketball with each other, but no one would care, pay, or watch. A fan union might be in order to remind players, coaches, ADs, etc who's really the boss.

  4. Lani Cornfield from Lake Shore HS and member of the Seneca nation is transferring to UB from Southern Mississippi. She will be a Senior. 25.2 mpg. 8.3 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 91 assists, 54 steals. Shot 41.1% FG and 39.6% 3-Pt (best on the team). Tenacious defender. Sounds like a solid add. She is 5'6 and listed as a guard.

  5. I hear you on PG being a weak spot, especially because Adams (still on the team as of now) handled so much point. But inside we're replacing Sy and Jo with Oboh as things stand. We already had weak rim protection and suspect rebounding. Replacing a star and a vet role player with one unknown freshman is questionable. PG: Fulcher SG: Boldin, Sabol Wing: Adams, Graham, Batchelor, Wilson, McVeigh, Jackson, Akot PF: Williamson C Oboh It's just a very strange roster balance at this point with only one spot yet to fill.

  7. I was at the Jim Christian press conference today and spoke with him afterwards. I'm going to increase my college basketball coverage next season. With me being back with Trainwreck Sports, I will be credentialed with UB, Canisius and Niagara so I look forward to providing additional content in the future.

  8. Wow Toledo coach left for Miami can expect an exodus of players to the portal and a rebuild. Great to know her last game was a loss to UB😂🤘

  9. UB not only had that weight lifted, but got paid to remove an anchor. Best possible option for UB, in my view. The team was a mess the past few years. Sadly, It was evident to anyone with eyes and even a rudimentary understanding of football.

  10. To be fair, Oats signed that extension fully aware that he was likely leaving in the near future. He was doing the athletic department a favor with the buyout but UB chose to promote a cheaper internal candidate rather than spend big money on an up and coming outsider.

  14. Without NIL, I believe what you are hoping for is likely not attainable this year. Those guys are going to want a little action to make a move. Maybe our staff can lure someone with those qualification. for this signing i do like it and AJ having a friend on the team could help too. This years team was obviously fractured and didn’t seem to like each other much. I would prefer a team that likes each other and wants to play together. I see these upsets with Oakland, Yale even Samford, etc. are groups where the sum is greater than its parts. That’s what we need to get back on track.

  15. I know I keep adding but I watched a lot of his highlights because Syracuse had a ton of interest in him out of HS. He was known as a dead eye three point shooter who also had quite a bit of athleticism. Can be moved around from the SF to PF position depending on matchups. I know on paper his stats don’t jump off the page but this dude can ball

  16. Just saw this from 2/24. Funny you mention needing rogaine. While we were watching Saturday's game we decided to take a drink every time BB adjusted her hair. Shitfaced by the end of the first quarter. Gotta love Uber.

  20. Anyone care to chime in on what brand of basketball we will be playing next year? The net loss on paper is significant and we were already horrendous.

  21. You guys both bring up some great points. I agree with UBinMD that I feel like this coach and staff are trying to build a roster around kids that are interchangeable on the floor defensively and offensively both from a size and athletic point of view. These coaches are clearly looking for kids who are willing to play defense, are good athletes, and are unselfish hard workers. I think you can describe all of the freshman from last year under those categories. Those are clearly the type of kids this staff is after. I think this is the formula started by Villanova and now used by many schools, like Uconn. Obviously the talent level at these schools is above the level we are recruiting at but the type of kids are the same. The kids this staff is after are willing to sacrifice their own accolades for the good of the team. This describes, Sabol, Boldin, Wilson and Mcveigh all of this staffs recruits last year. I agree with MuchMany who feels that the veteran leadership from last year never took on these characteristics and they were a non complimentary group of players left leading this team. They were selfish players and were not willing to sacrifice for the good of the team. All of the lazy play from last year falls squarely on the shoulders of Chatman and Adams. That is why we won so little of our games. These kids let us down by being selfish and lazy. I think this staff will be the first to tell you there mistake was to allow Chatman and Adams and Smith the ability to return and their choice to continue to play them heavy minutes down the stretch of the season. It was destined to fail when the only reason these kids stayed here at UB was because they did not want to have to sit out another year because it was all of their at least second transfer if they chose to move to another school. These kids had no interest in playing for this coach, after all they came here to play for Whitesell. They had no interest in buying into what this staff was selling. That was the major issue last year. I wish the coaching staff had just benched them. It was a weird dynamic all year and I think this was the crux of it all. I think this staff is trying to follow the mold of Villanova and Uconn but we did not get a chance to see it much last year. I think they are trying to create an identity of interchangability, with athletes who work hard and are willing to sacrifice and play unselfish. Personally I think this is the approach to take in our situation. We go after the kids who are loyal and are willing to stay and play as a team. I also think this a reason you see this staff recruiting these kids who dont have a ton of other offers. They are under recruited and have a chip on their shoulder to prove themselves. I think next year we are going to see a vast improvement and I think it will be an entertaining brand of basketball. Trust me, I was as frustrated as anyone this past season. I drove 550 miles to see three games of Chatman and Adams being ball hogs and lazy on defense. I was the one standing and clapping when Chatman was kicked out of his final game, BYE! I am not happy with the status of this program but after I have let my emotions settle and I have reviewed our situation, a plan emerged that I think this staff is aiming for. Will it result in wins next year like we all want, I doubt it, but I think it takes time to build a program. I will support this approach and I hope you all will as well. I look forward to next year. I want to see a team identity based on interchangeability, athleticism and unselfish play where the players sacrifice for each other to allow for team success. If we see this from the team it will be a fun season and we can all get behind that approach. Go Bulls!

  22. Short answer, no, I did not see that. I also saw a team that was extraordinarily fragmented. I saw a lot of lazy veteran play. I saw a lot of young players that deferred to veterans most of the season and we consistently let down. It is probably wishful thinking, but this year will be 100% GH3 recruits, so I will reserve judgement until after this season. I did listen to almost all of Dan Hurley's interview where he talks about player selection, his thoughts on building a team and I think he is 100% correct that it really only takes one bad apple and it really does change the dynamic of an entire team. I only saw one game live and it was the Niagara game and the level of selfish play and laziness I observed was painful to see. That group was not a team at that point and never really got any better.

  24. I mean all 3 programs had much better seasons than us. The recruits GH3 are bringing in are not of a higher caliber, most have no D1 offers or offers from MAAC schools and other low majors. and yes, I think it’s smart to bring in local kids and build a pipeline, even just as a walk-on. It looks like Hodgson, who just had a much better first season than GH3, is picking up on this and even has Adam March giving the team NIL who funded Blue Collar U

  26. We did just watch a season where the team won 3 games and were blown out in most others. Which blue blood schools offered the guys that were recently signed? While the point is not completely off base, the all time scorer here should be more than capable of getting a look from the supposed top school in the area. Much like Khalil Mack's brother not originally being offered by UB (before receiving big time backlash), it's not a super wise decision.

  27. 100% agree. Talent in the locker room wasn't the problem, talent on the sideline and in the booth was suspect.

  28. This surprised me. I know he hit the portal for a minute last year. I really enjoyed his run towards the end of the season, felt like he was finally putting it together and I think he's the only one on the team this season who tried to draw a charge. Rooting for him, wherever he ends up

  30. There's a difference between what they want to do and what they're actually able to do. They know their roster wasn't properly constructed this past season.

  31. Young players improve. Following the development of players is one of the most enjoyable things about following college basketball with as young as the athletes are. Will they develop well? Only time will tell, but to me there's more optimism in trying to build young players up than randomly piecing transfers together each year. Of course there's the risk of players transferring out eventually, but that's just life now and the frequency is overstated imo. Our current freshman class seems to be pretty well bonded and happy here for the time being. Am I optimistic overall for next season? No. I do think we have the chance to be significantly better than this season with a roster of more than eight healthy players, the continuing development of our guys, and hopefully the improvement of the coaching staff after a year of tough lessons. We'll know a lot more when the last two roster spots get filled and we get some eyes on all the new guys on campus.

  32. D1 limits are 15 for women’s basketball. If all of the roster and coaching movement is done, this is a massive win for Burke and she absolutely proved me wrong. Portal is still open for about a month, but so much happens early on. Retaining the MAC FOTY and the conference’s top scorer (who I have to think has a degree by now, meaning transfer without sitting out is a possibility) is also huge.

  33. Canisius board has a post with "word on campus" is Tahj Staveskie and Xzavier Long "both looking to follow Cage to UB". I always liked Tahj's game and he could/would really push Fulcher for the PG spot we need. Long rebounds well and could/would be a nice replacement for Graham, though unsure if he would just overlap with Batchelor.

  34. After their strong showing in the South conference, Canterbury's Tim Oboh has graduated from last year's top U17 player to this season's MVP. The Kent programme went 9-3 and had a strong opportunity to win the conference before a late-season blip, with Oboh claiming multiple Player of the Year nods along the way. 16.9PPG went with 12.1RPG as Oboh continually impressed, and his efficient shooting around the rim (50.9FG%) helped Canterbury to become one of the big storylines of the 2023/24 regular season. Oboh just managed to pip JMA's Isaac Round for the award as the duo were voted either first or second by every coach in the conference.

  36. Not worried about seniors either, just thought it was interesting that the entire class has cleared out. However, experience has correlated with success in the covid era especially for mid-majors. I agree that guys with two years of eligibility are ideal to fill two of the three open spots. We know we need one scholarship to free up after next season to fit Quintin Cooper '25 (our best recruit yet under GH3). Odds are one or more will transfer out after next season anyway, but I'd bet we bring in at least one senior now to guarantee that spot opens up.

  39. My argument is that from the time he stepped foot on the court this season, he was out to put up whatever numbers he could regardless of what that meant to the team or the win column. I think he was a turnover machine. I think that once AJ and Sabol started having some growth in their game he intentionally did not pass them the ball. I believe his defense was non-existent. If a player will not buy in to a coaches philosophy, the coach can either suck up a lost season or bench them completely. In hindsight, I wouldn't be surprised if GH3 chose the benching. However, he has hours of video to show his future teams as to how NOT to play team basketball. As to your total minutes item, he averaged 33 mpg this year and 29.7 mpg last year. He missed several games due to injury, so he would likely have surpassed that. I only mention that as you seem to be implying that GH3 failed to not play him enough this year. 22.8% on 3-Pointers with 149 attempts is deplorable for a Senior.

  40. For the 2020 Mr. Basketball from a state as elite as Florida to not figure out how to star in the MAC as a junior or senior under two different coaches is absolutely a failure on Adams part, but that's not the main point of this conversation. Re: expectations for next year, I don't think he'll match the contributions of a younger Curtis Jones on a team anywhere near as good as Iowa State. Adams is a fine player, but he hardly has any killer instinct or alpha traits.

  42. That was borderline in that time and situation you just don’t make that call. But what a ride excited for next year. Would like to see an experienced post and more bench depth that can up scoring options. I’m confident the staff will be working with all the freshmen to further there development because this team is not sneaking up on anyone in the MAC next year. 🤘

I'm not familiar with it or it's history but it's something If you're bored check out the names also announced to this team while Jackson doesn't have any stars where I find him listed on recruiting sites the guys on this all Canadian team are all power conference recruits with 3/4/5 stars Gotta mean something good
