  1. I'm not sure we move up that much. There is a difference between us losing in the MAC and a P5 loss. We won at home so we should stay where we are. My only concern is what happens when we lose away in MAC. Will we drop out of top 25? I hope that's not the case.
  2. Yes, that was on my list of todos and I totally forgot about that. Next thing to look into.
  3. Not sure why we need to be angry. Good luck to KJ. He was a good player and hope he does well. KJ I’m sure is living his dream of playing for Miami in front of his friends and family. We all have dreams. The cupboard is full.
  4. So I met a dad in my town (through kids soccer) who's actually the leading Economist studying the value of NFL QBs. He predicted that the Browns would draft Baker Mayfield over Sam Darnold based on the system of valuation that the Browns used. It was very interesting talking to him. Here are the things he values and many NFL teams are now stressing. Metrics on passing accuracy less than X seconds (I think it was 2.something seconds, but I can't remember) from snap time Big emphasis on mobility. This I found surprising, but mobility not necessarily to gain yardage but to gain time to throw. In the email below (this exchange is from October, not sure if it still holds), he says that if comparing Tyree to the class of 2018, he would be 8th. So that would put him behind, 1 Darnold, 2 Rosen, 3Mayfield, 4 Allen, 5 Lamar Jackson, 6 Lauletta, 7 Rudolph. I think the team that drafts Jackson will be less reliant on Analytics. Honestly, Tyree doesn't really have the analytics that NFL is looking for. His passing efficiency and and completion percentages are not that great. What he has is the eye test. He's big and has a big arm. We've seen that he can run, but I'm not sure that he's that mobile in the pocket. He's not really agile when the pressure comes, I mean he's 6'7". Well here's the email below ------- Kyu, We ran our model with his stats and you can see our methodologies explained in very technical detail: https://ideas.repec.org/p/geo/guwopa/gueconwpa~17-17-08.html And less so: https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2018/beating-nfl-drafting-qbs https://footballmaven.io/nfldraftscout/news/best-qb-prospects-are-functionally-mobile-riVbed6uCk6QRArpZ1vQsQ/ Here is the short version: Very few college statistics are good predictors for how a quarterback will do going into the NFL for a range of reasons. More so, those statistics are more variable once you introduce the different collegiate levels of opponents (Division I vs lesser divisions as in the case of Buffalo). While we did not find statistical significance for division of football played predicting stats in the NFL, it does add variance to our predictions. In other words, we are less confident about the predicted number (and also because we haven't seen him in a full season this year). That being said, we agree with Kiper he is probably in the range of 3 to 5 in terms of prospects, but I would stress there is uncertainty on that estimate because of the division and we haven't seen him play all the games that scouts will have seen come draft time. Also, you might wonder how his predicted value would have done in this years draft...he would have been 8th. My opinion, he should stay for his senior year since games started does predict well positively to the NFL. Regards, Alex
  5. Good for Tyree. For a buffalo fan this is much better than transferring. Looks so much better and Tyree can forever be a Bull. Now maybe Giants draft him in the 3rd round and he can be ready in 2 years.
  6. Round of 32 in the East South Bracket
  7. On 1/2/2019 Wikipedia homepage has international bowl from 10 years ago as the featured article. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_International_Bowl
  8. Anyone know how ready Vantrease is? its good that he got some playing time in 2017. Hope he’s been working hard.
  9. Never thought this rule would hurt us. Always thought the rule would benefit smaller colleges as graduates look for a chance to get playing time. Hope he stays. But if he doesn’t that might mean we grab a different graduate transfer from a P5 school.
  10. Starting a new thread about Tyree Jackson. Three possibilities. Go pro - as many have said, he’s not ready. He was much better early in the year. Not sure what happened but his accuracy has gotten worse. I personally think that for the nfl, he’s got to rid his windup. The top pros seem to just flick the ball with their wrist. There is no time at the next level so he will need a year to change the way he throws. P5 transfer - I’m actually very surprised by this as the most likely option. Will it help him develop more going against better competition every week? Probably. It’s just that I can’t think of other QBs who went pro from non P5s do this. Roethlisberger, Allen, Wentz ... 1 year to learn a new offense and potentially not even start sounds like a big risk to me, the risk would be greater than benefit. NFL has shown it is not afraid to take QBs from non P5. Return to Buffalo - I hope he returns. The team should be good. I think if he returns and plays well, we have a shot at Penn State. Johnson is gone but the receiving Corp with Osborn, Nunn, Mabry, Jones and Scott are going to be good. Add in Patterson and Marks on the ground and this offense can be better next year. Hope his teammates can convince him to return.
  11. I'm skeptical about this ranking and the use of it. NCAA always uses these metrics selectively when they need to. Once MAC season hits, we might drop down even if we win. Let's see.
  12. Oops, spellcheck changed Darcell to Darrell. Sorry about that. I can't change it cause it looks like I can't change polls.
  13. I’m really curious about this too. For some reason, there seems to be more basketball fans. Wondering if it’s because we have a higher potential ceiling in basketball. Or if it’s because we all live watching basketball over football The way basketball is setup, we could potentially get a lot of national attention by going to let’s say the sweet sixteen. Even 1 win in the tourney gets you lots of media coverage. Not sure that going to these other bowls are getting us media coverage. Maybe the only way we get it is if we were somehow to go undefeated and got invited to one of the big payout bowls.
  14. What a win! just a gritty win i think we got New York’s attention with this win.
  15. I know it's a 1 vs 16, but this should be very close. I thought of voting for Modie, but went with Rasaun Young mainly because Rasaun is the leading scorer at UB. First Modie Cox was pretty much the first big time recruit at UB after UB returned to D1. It was a big deal back in '91 for Modie to come to UB. He was Turner Battle before Turner Battle. I knew Modie personally and I can't stress what a good kind hearted person he was and is probably still. I met him in English class in my freshman class. I had no idea he was this basketball player because he was so soft spoken and humble. Needless to say I was really saddened to hear about his drug charges. I think we all experience moments of weakness. Thanks for highlighting Modie's work with Winning Before I tried. -> http://winningbecauseitried.com/our-staff/ I'm pasting his bio here for all to read. MODIE COX, FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT Modie Cox, a Niagara Falls native, and also a LaSalle High School graduate, was a stand out basketball player (Mc Donald’s Honorable Mention and WNY Player of the Year), leading his teams to several state championship appearances. In 1988 Cox was a member of the 27-0 State/ Federation championship team. He was recruited by many division I colleges and ultimately decided to attend the University at Buffalo on a full athletic scholarship. At UB he continues to hold records in steals and assists, ranking him third in school history. Cox, also has the highest career assist total in UB’s Division 1 era. His 8 steals in a game still stands as a record. Cox holds two of the top ten highest single season assist marks at UB. After UB, Modie went on to play professional basketball in both Europe and Africa averaging 15 points and 9 assists per game. In 2004 he returned home to play for the Buffalo Rapids and Silverbacks of the American Basketball Association. Modie worked as a substitute school teacher in the Buffalo Public School District while pursuing a masters degree in Urban Planning. After working in the school system for 5 years, Cox went on to pursue his dream of motivating youth. He was the president of the “Do Your Best, Never Quit” community inititive prior to going out on his own and starting “Winning Because I Tried” which caters to the entire New York State. While going on speaking engagements, holding professional forums, youth summits and leadership workshops, Cox was also the Director of Program Development with the Buffalo Police Athletic League (PAL) where his responsibilities include developing new programs, enhancing existing programs, supervising interns as well as many other duties. In 2011 he resigned from his position with the PAL and took on his current postion, as Recreational Aide, with the City of Buffalo Parks and Recreation Department. Acclaimed by Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown as “a person to be commended for your tireless efforts to help our community and its youth”, Modie Cox has thrown his heart and passion into youth mentorship for nearly two decade “Winning because I Tried” is more than just a catch phrase to Modie, it is a way of life, declaring it his “life duty” as expressed in his mission statement. Niagara Gazette 11/4/09- “I want to encourage young people to believe in their dreams, to never give up Cox said. I know there’s times circumstances will prohibit a kid from moving forward, lack of fathers, mothers or whatever. I want the kids to know that their life is in their hands and they can become what they want when the believe in it.” In 2013 Cox became the first African American, Executive Director, of the Police Athletic League (PAL) of Buffalo. In his short tenure Cox hit the ground running implementing new programming, creating sustainable funding, adding jobs and establishing a much needed 21st century approach. After two and a half years at PAL Cox, decided to resign from the PAL to continue with his passion of working with youth across the State of New York. In 2015, WBIT partnered with the County of Onondaga (Syracuse, NY) providing emotional and learning skills for some of the City’s toughest youth, who find themselves detained at Hillbrook Detention Facility. In 2017 WBIT will look to cement a relationship with Coordinated Care Service, Inc. (Rochester, NY) to deliver services for young men transitioning back into their communities from detention or placement. Modie is the proud parent of his son Kaleb.
  16. My guy Modie Cox goes up against his teammate Rasaun Young. Modie was fast. Super fast. He might have been the quickest player in D1 at the time. His problem was that his outside shot was almost non existent. Rasaun was a strange player. A 6-2 guard who got a lot of his points by posting up. He was not quick or that athletic, but he just somehow scored.
  17. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. It is fixed now.
  18. Hope his wife gets better. He'll always be welcomed at Buffalo for that initial step forward. That first step might be the hardest. Bobby Hurley did the same for UB.
  19. Curious, I see they are both seniors. Are they not eligible for this year? Any idea why they are not playing?
  20. Good deal for Buffalo. Boca might have been a better destination but this is very close.
