  1. Ok, which one of you clowns donated a $1? I guess it's better than nothing.
  2. I watched the Bears vs Seahawks game last week. I think it’s the first time I watched a football game and watched one guy whenever Seahawks were on offense. Heres what I saw. Mack expends a lot of energy. He plays so hard when he’s in there. He gets double teamed on passing downs and he’s still going all out. Most linemen will give up in this situation. It’s good that the Bears are substituting for him often. I see how he’s opening up for other guys to shine on the team. He’s really elevating the whole team to another level. On rushing plays, the Seahawks always ran to the left side. It’s almost as if they are playing with half the field. Even then Khalil would still chase the RB from the other side. We all know how good he is against the run but this is where most fans will not appreciate the greatness of Mack. Because of those two factors stated above, you can’t look at stats to measure how Mack is doing. I did the same and am always looking to see how many sacks or QB hits he got. That play when he got the strip sack was just amazing. He gets bumped by the TE then he gets double teamed and he’s pushing the OL with his legs and one arm and with the other arm strips Russell. He was great in college but he didn’t stopped working in the NFL. The guy is still getting better. I still can’t believe he was at UB for four years. He is a generational talent and we had him. I still can’t understand how that happened. I am adopting the Bears as my second team for the year. And I am really rooting against the Raiders for trading Mack away. I hope this goes down similar to the Red Sox trading away the Babe. I think the Bears have a good chance at the playoffs. Vikes look great, but Packers might be vulnerable. Lions, I can’t believe how bad they were against the Jets.
  3. Hey I have no ties to Danny White. I am just happy that our program is doing well. I was thinking about how we got here. Not sure where I said this though -> "everything great is because of him and how anything that didn't go well is because people didn't fall in line.". Just trying to give credit where credit is due because some jobs you don't see fruits until years down the line. Anyway, the Big Ten post and the 4 hires post was just coincidence (timing wise). It started with me trying to give credit to Leipold. Then I had to give credit to the guy who hired him and realized how the guy hired Oats and Jack. Won't mention DW much going forward. From time to time it will come up. Just like I mention guys like James Starks, Khalil Mack, BO Oliver (one of my favorite UB players), Modie Cox (my personal friend in college) and some random players and coaches. Anyway, no need to have hard feelings towards any former Bull. I think all former guys are part of the UB family. Not sure why DW should be any different.
  4. I just realized that we have a big ten team on our schedule every year going forward. The trend started last year with us playing Minnesota. So we didn’t join the Big Ten but it looks like we have set the expectation to compete at that level by Danny White and Lance Leipold. I suspect Alnutt will keep the same philosophy or take us to the next level. 2017 - Minnesota (White) 2018 - Rutgers (White) $900k 2019 - Penn State (Greene) 2020 - Ohio State (Alnutt) 2021 - Nebraska (Greene) 2022 - Maryland (Alnutt) 2023 - Wisconsin (Alnutt) 2024 - only 1 game scheduled. SEC team Mizzou (Alnutt)
  5. Lance Leipold was hired by Danny White. See my other post. We were all somewhat disappointed in season 1 when he went 5-7. Somehow, we all though this guy wouldn't lose. Well when he lost 7 games, we realized that he's human after all. So we cut him some slack. In year 2, the bottom fell out and we finished the season 2-10. We even lost to lowly Albany and it seemed like Buffalo had made a huge mistake in hiring this DIII coach. It looked like he was in over his head. Well in year 3, we saw things turn around. It was a mediocre 6-6 season, but we saw things we hadn't seen in years. A competitive team. A fun team with a high scoring offense. A bright future with a young stud QB. A team that fought all season and finished strong winning 3 games in a row. Here we are in year 4 and the team dare I say it looks great. This offense matches the team that went to the International Bowl that featured Drew Willy, Naaman Roosevelt and James Starks. Perhaps that team with Starks had a more balanced attack. Starks was a HR threat when he touched the ball. Naaman was also a threat to take it any time he touched the ball. I think LL has made some nice adjustments along the way. The hiring of coach Zebrowski was a key ingredient in turning this around. He's done a great job in developing Tyree and serving as the co-offensive coordinator to Kotelnicki who does not have as much experience and perhaps was not ready to be the sole OC for a D1 program. It's still early, but I hope we can lock up LL for many years. I suspect that he will stay for a bit from looking at his history at Wisc-WW. Alnutt will probably need to raise some funds and redo LL's and the Assistant salaries at this rate.
  6. Danny White was UB AD from 2012-2015. That's only 3 years, but boy are we benefiting from his decisions. His NYBI is no more, but it's that initiative that has set this whole thing in motion. Let's look at 4 key hires that changed the course of UB Athletics. First and foremost, he had the guts to replace Reggie Witherspoon. Now I love Coach Witherspoon. He did so much for UB Basketball, but for one reason or another, he just couldn't get over the hump. White came in and he decided that it was not enough. He released Coach W. It was a risky move. He took another risk by hiring a coach in Bobby Hurley with zero head coaching experience. Bobby Hurley took us to the promised land in year 2. His sudden decision to move to ASU put the whole operation in jeopardy. So what does White do? He quickly moves to hire the assistant who was coaching HS bball only 2 years ago. I think all of us were satisfied with Nate Oats, but let's face it, we didn't know he wold be this good. Not only has he been a great coach, but he's been a great recruiter. He no longer had a big name behind him in his recruiting pitch, but still managed to pull in some talent. I would say that first year, it was mostly finding undiscovered talent, not necessarily big names. Well Nate Oats is a star in college basketball. He's not a rising star, he's a star. UB women had never gone to an NCAA tournament in its history. Well, we all know Felisha Legette-Jack took us there twice. Once in 2016 and then to the sweet sixteen in 2018. So who made this hire? Well it was back in 2012 and that was under you guessed it Danny White (June 2012). The hire was a coach who had experience at a major university, but didn't meet expectations. UB basketball went to D1 in 1991. The men broke through in 2015. Women in 2016. So that's 24 years of futility for the men. 25 for the women. That's 49 seasons of 0 NCAA appearances. Then we had 2015 Men under Bobby Hurley 2016 Women under FLJ 2017 Men under Nate Oats 2018 Men reach round of 32, Women reach Sweet Sixteen That's 5 NCAA appearances in 4 years. Moving onto football. Coach Quinn had mild success. He did take us to a bowl game, but he too was replaced with Lance Leipold. This time he went to a seasoned coach who had immense success at the DIII level. We were all excited about the hire but questioned whether he could do it at the next level. Well it looks like LL can. He's really put a nice program together with talent at every position. Most importantly he's found a QB and developed that QB. Now the amazing thing about all these four hires is that there is absolutely no pattern. One was someone with 0 head coaching experience. One was a HS coach. One was a coach who was given a chance and failed. The last was a coach who had success at a lower level. Danny White was a visionary. He is long gone from UB, but I can't believe how good he was for UB. So Danny White, if you are relaxing in some beach in Florida right now in the sun. I want to say, thank you. You did some amazing things in your short time at Buffalo. I hope Buffalonians can forget the hurt feelings from the NYBI initiative in like 5 years and induct you into the UB hall of fame because you were truly a visionary. Without that vision and salesmanship, none of these four coaches are here at UB.
  7. BTN2GO app downloaded just in case it's not on BTN in NYC for youtube.tv Just read the game notes. Can't believe the last time we played Rutgers was in 2007. 11 years ago. Wow, has it been that long? For some reason, I thought we played them pretty regularly. Not sure why we stopped playing Rutgers after 2007, but we definitely need to get this game on a more regular basis along with Syracuse, Army, UConn, BC and UMass. Anyway, back to 2007. Rutgers was nationally ranked and we got blown out there. I think I remember that game. Ray Rice basically killed us on the ground and we couldn't stay with their receivers Underwood and Britt. I think it was a night game. Remember it being a long ride home. Well 2018, it's a new game and we should be able to take this. Strangely, losing to Rutgers will now be a disaster as Rutgers is now being recognized as the worst Power 5 team. Must win at Rutgers. We need to hit their rookie QB hard and cause have him running around early so they give up early. Them having hope might cause them to wake up and actually believe they can win this game.
  8. I just checked and it looks like it’s not on BTN. Will need btn2go whatever that is.
  9. Nice. And the highest ranked MAC team is ...... Yes it is. Buffalo! Next two games, Rutgers and Army, we are higher which means we will be favored in both matchups as long as we win of course. We might be favored the rest of the way going forward which is pretty crazy. The only game which we will be underdogs is against Toledo and that's only because we're the visiting team.
  10. Army game is 12PM on CBS Sports Network. Luckily I have that on youtube tv. http://ubbulls.com/sports/fball/2018-19/releases/20180917i6ii38
  11. I only say that because EMU and Akron are not the marquee MAC teams that you expect upsets from. You would have expected it from Toledo, NIU or Ohio. So maybe the top MAC teams are down. No top 25 this year, but top to bottom, the teams are better. There's not going to be any give me games which were plenty in years past. With us being one of them.
  12. MAC has really improved as a conference recently. EMU win against Purdue Akron just pulled off an upset against Northwestern. That is pretty shocking. Buffalo win at Temple and they have a great opportunity to win at Rutgers next week. MAC football is in really good shape.
  13. 28-21 at the half. Game of big plays. It’s a shootout. We need to limit the big plays.
  14. We haven’t even played yet but temple Rutgers result is really looking good for us. I predict 22000 for attendance.
  15. We are now up to 89. This follows the rise of UB Athletics coincidence? I think not. Expect a continual rise in ranking as both the football team and Bball team raise their records and power rankings. http://www.buffalo.edu/ubnow/stories/2018/09/us-news-best-colleges-2019.html?utm_source=linkedin&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=na_org_september_2018_usnews_eg&linkId=100000003445313
  16. Nice, detailed evaluation of Hodge. He will be the second Khalil to make the pros. Only question is how high will he go? https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2019-nfl-draft-buffalo-lb-khalil-hodge-can-be-a-productive-three-down-nfl-defender/
  17. What I had thought would be an easy win prior to the season, has become one of the tougher matchups for UB. Their QB Wiegers had over 312 yards on only 20/28. That is pretty impressive. That is efficiency. EMU didn't have much of a run game against Purdue. As a team, they only got 69 yards on 31 carries. I like our secondary so it'll be a good matchup EMU's air attack. I've been pretty encouraged by our DL. They held their own against a good temple OL. We should be able to stop their run game. Maybe not keep them under 100 yards, but we should be able to keep them under 150. Purdue only managed 135 through the air. Not sure if this was due to their inability to throw or their proficiency to run. They amassed 341 yards on 42 carries. 8.1 yards/carry. Looks like a bunch of RBs had huge runs. Longs of 45, 32 and 53 yards. Our offense should be able to move the ball freely here. Last week was Kevin Marks breakout game, but maybe he really goes off Saturday. I've noticed that BTN has the replay of games in 60 minutes. Really entertaining way to watch football, so I'll try to catch both the Rutgers game and EMU game on replay this week. I think we win this game Saturday. Don't think it'll be as tight as the spread. Predict 34-24
  18. Awesome video. Must watch. What a great kid. He’s the leader of this team. T3 as he goes, we go
  19. Kevin Marks stole the show, but Charlie Jones was another freshman that surprised on Saturday. He made some key plays and surprisingly got the ball thrown his way on some 3rd downs. You can see he's got really good hands. He was really good up the middle. Great addition to have to our long list of wide receivers. Had some decent number of other MAC offers out of college. http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/highland-park/sports/ct-dfr-charlie-jones-signing-day-tl-0209-20170203-story.html
  20. Where did this kid come from? he looks like a complete back. Has nice size and speed. Is able to break tackles and can take it to the house. His numbers from his HS are pretty gaudy. Over 2000 yards rushing, 36 TDS, 12.6 yards/carry his senior season alone. How did this kid not get highly recruited? How did we not talk that much about him? umbers
  21. Ha. Same section. I was in 101. Had 7 kids in my group. Glad that my kids got to experience a win in dramatic fashion. Kevin Marks looks really good. Did Reed get hurt? Once Marks came in, the ground game just opened up. The kid just looks stronger and faster than the other guys. After that game, I would guess he might have just won the starting job. Having said that, I really thought both our Oline and Dline had a good game i expected Temple to push us around up front but we held up well I was pretty impressed with the run D today. Mitcheson really dug is in a hole by missing the XP, but he changed the game again by making that 46 yarder. Let’s hope that gets him going. He seems to have plenty of leg. Even his kickoffs go to the end zone. What was the penalty that gave us the first down on the last drive? Man, thank goodness for that flag. Without it, I think we are looking at a different result. What a game by Cam Lewis 2 ints. The secondary was really good again we had 1 mistake on that long pass up the middle. coaching was really good. Team looks very disciplined. No silly penalties. I do question going for 2 on the second TD and not going for 3 inside the 20. Hope the long kick gives the coaches confidence in the kicker KJ is going to take one back this year. I see that extra gear and elusiveness. Our team was better today. Temple had no offense. It would have been really sad if we lost today. We deserved to win. So glad we did.
  22. What a game. Marks: wow where did he come from? johnson: had a quiet game then made the play to win us the game.
  23. I think maybe the difference is that in the past, if we did offer, it was never mentioned. If it was, it was mentioned as a laughable assertion that someone of that caliber would commit. Now I think it's actually an honor for players to get an offer from us. It's not super prestigious, but it's nothing to laugh at. We're changing perception every year.
  24. We're 4.5 point underdogs for tomorrow which I think is right even though Temple lost to Nova last week. Nova really seems to get up to play Temple. I'm pretty sure that Nova beat Temple the year we had the Hail Mary. Tyree might need to run this week. I'm sure there will be plays that break down. Expect Temple to come after Jackson to disrupt his rhythm. Looking forward to a bounce back game from Reed. We will need to have a balanced attack if we want to come away with a win. Don't notice any changes in the 2 deep. https://d2o2figo6ddd0g.cloudfront.net/u/l/cjugp4czupx3wg/gamenotes_temple_2018.pdf Some guys I'll be paying special attention to this week. Jared Patterson - How will the true freshman in his first FBS game. Ledarius Mack - Is he good? I'm curious. I think we all are. George Rushing - Will be establish himself as that 3rd threat? KJ Osborne - He's just an exciting player. Looking for him to take it to the house on punt returns or in the open field. OL - Can we get some push up front against a big front line? Might be tough going for this unit. Secondary - Can they play at the same speed they did in week 1? Or will they be the ones chasing? Mitcheson - Will we kick a FG when we are at the 30 yard line? Or is this still 4 down territory? Can he reward Coach Leipold if he kicks it?
