  1. Dayton is a basketball school and has been for decades and decades before UB. The A10 and the MWC have been ranked among the top 10 conferences for the most part over the past 20 years. The MAC has been ranked in the top 10 twice in the past 24 years. I’m not sure what their coaches earn, but it probably dwarfs what UB pays Whitesell. In the last game at Dayton over 13000 fans were in attendance, at San Diego St there were over 10000. You can not remotely put UB in the same class as those two programs at this point. And should UB remain in the MAC, it will never achieve the status of either as far as basketball is concerned. By the way, there were 3700+ fans at Alumni Arena tonight to cheer on the women’s and men’s teams.
  2. Rounded to the nearest percent: Johnson in 2018 from 2, 3, and foul line: 47%, 38%, 87%. Johnson in 2020 from same: 43%, 27%, 82%. To exacerbate the problem he took more shots this year in all categories. His free throw shooting was still great. Good luck in the next stage, Antwain.
  3. Agreed. He’s a kid who just never got untracked offensively. Same could be said of Grant. Both had their moments, but at the end of the day they just didn’t get it done.
  4. Is it intensity? Or is it awareness? And whatever it is, he wasn’t the only one...85 points against the 12th seed at home.
  5. The top teams? Harvard? St Bonaventure? DePaul? Akron...perhaps - a projected 13 seed, if they can hold serve. No...the Bulls beat some teams ranked higher than them, but they beat no top teams.
  6. Buffalo does have a good young nucleus. The Bulls are sorely going to miss Jordan, however. Buffalo definitely needs shooters. They need to shore up the defense too. Major disappointment this year in the contributions from Johnson and Grant. I don’t expect an improvement next year. That said, Whitesell will probably be gone after next year.
  7. A. They are aware of the caronavirus. B. They don’t give a farthing C. It’s not cool to root for your school D. All of the above
  8. “Athletes become slaves to the system built to profit from our success, handcuffed to the fear of losing the opportunities attached to our dreams. ” Boilerplate nonsense. There is absolutely no way that any university is profiting from the success of any women’s athletic program in any sport. Accepting an athletic scholarship to represent a university is a voluntary choice. It is not slavery. This young woman comes across as bitter and misguided. Anyone who falls for this kind of crap is a major league bull shitter.
  9. Miami’s last AWAY win was on Nov 13 against Purdue Fort Wayne.
  10. If Ball St hangs on, UB will play Miami.
  11. Look for Huger to call for fouling Jordan
  12. Refs have lost control of this game. They are incompetent
  13. I don’t think the Bulls have the best talent this year. They do not shoot well from the field. Their foul shooting, albeit recently improved, is below par. Their defense is spotty. Buffalo certainly does not have the best team based on where it is in the Conference standings. You say that Whitesell sounded satisfied by just beating Miami on Saturday. You are assuming that Buffalo has a right to automatic wins based on the history of the past few years. This Conference is very evenly balanced in talent. The preponderance of close games is testimony to that. Is Whitesell a good or bad coach? Let’s wait awhile to make that judgement. We all want the Bulls to be blowing out the other teams. Passion won’t get it done. Ability, preparation, and focus may.
  14. Well, make your bets then. I wouldn’t bet anything. Why? This is a total crapshoot. Does that mean the Bulls will win? No. Could they win? Yes. Who will win? We’ll find out in ten days.
  15. Assume Buffalo gets the 4th seed. Would they play the winner of the 5 vs 12 game? Or would they play whichever winning team from Monday’s games has the highest seed?
  16. If the Bulls lose, they need Ball St to lose to N Illinois AND Kent St to lose to Akron. Otherwise, if they lose they will play at AA on Monday. If the Bulls win, they can ignore the Kent St/Akron game but MUST have N Illinois beat Ball St. Otherwise, the Bulls will be back on Monday at AA.
  17. He’s too small. Other guys in the MAC are shorter and more slender, but they’re quicker and have a better outside shot. Segu has been a huge liability over the last 2 months.
  18. Ooops. Back to the drawing board...You, unfortunately, are correct. But I don’t think that Kent will beat Akron.
  19. The 10 - 8 path to a 3 way tie: 1. Buffalo beats Miami and loses to Akron or Buffalo loses to Miami and beats Akron 2. N Illinois loses to Toledo and Ball St 3. Ball St loses to C Michigan and beats N Illinois The 10 - 8 three way tie scenario seems very unlikely. The 11 - 7 path to a 3 way tie: 1. Buffalo beats Miami and Akron. 2. Ball St beats C Michigan and N Illinois. 3. N Illinois beats Toledo and loses to Ball St. The 11 - 7 three way tie scenario seems even less likely than the 10 - 8 path. Most likely: Buffalo backs into the 4th place bye by beating Miami and losing to Akron. Ball State beats C Michigan and loses to N Illinois. They both end up at 10 - 8. N Illinois either ends up at 12 - 6 0r 11 - 7.
  20. The jury is still out on Whitesell. That said, I look at Conference games and can point to 2, possibly 3, stinkers: the first Ball St game, the second Ohio game, and the meltdown in the last 5 minutes of the second Akron game. While team free throw shooting has improved, team rebounding in the last two games has suffered - both losses at a critical period of the season. Three point shooting has been inconsistent but generally poor. I don’t think that Buffalo’s defense scares anyone. Kenpom, from November through March, has had 5 different MAC teams going to March Madness: Ball St, Toledo, Kent, Bowling Green, and Akron. He’s had them anywhere from a 12th seed to a 15th seed. In other words, this thing is up for grabs. I would be surprised if Western Michigan won it all...and that’s about it.
