  1. With all of the women's basketball news over the past few years, does anyone else think it makes sense for a separate forum for Women's Basketball and a separate forum for Men's Basketball?
  2. Super League? https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/why-a-college-football-super-league-would-face-major-hurdles-in-attempt-to-offset-effects-of-realignment/#:~:text=The CST structure%2C according to,remaining 50-plus FBS teams.
  3. The winner can wear the championship bible belt.
  4. I live in Houston nowadays. Rice University's athletic program has floundered for the past 20 years or so (though baseball won the NCAA championship in 2003, it too has struggled the past decade). But the university has a new president and a new AD, has moved to the AAC, so this higher profile hiring may indicate a new interest in collegiate athletics.
  5. Seems Rob Lanier will be named Rice University's new head coach tomorrow.

  11. Talking salaries, here are a couple of Alabama assistant football coaches from a newspaper article in 2022. At least a little similar to Mo's new title. "Charles Kelly, Jr., associate defensive coordinator Salary: $850,000 End of contract: Feb. 29, 2024 Note: Received one-year extension and a raise of $25,000. Travaris Robinson, cornerbacks Salary: $800,000 End of contract: Feb. 29, 2024" https://www.tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/college/football/2022/08/23/alabama-football-nick-saban-contract-2022-coaching-staff-bill-o-brien-pete-golding/7875698001/
  12. I apologize if this is behind a paywall (incl with NY Times) but an interesting look at those from the Group of 5 and what happens to them in the Power 5 . https://theathletic.com/5137049/2023/12/15/college-football-transfer-portal-g5-prospects/ With some notable exceptions, it's been difficult for many former G5 players moving up. " (G5) transfers played 500-plus snaps for their former teams in 2022. How many were able to match or surpass that number on a Power 5 team this season? Only 13 of them. This subset of transfer players logged a total of 95,637 snaps for Group of 5 teams during the 2022 season, according to Pro Football Focus data. This year? Their combined total snaps played is 60,345. The average among these 186 players was 190 fewer snaps..."
  13. Giants, Tom Murphy Agree To Two-Year Contract December 18th, 2023 at 7:21pm CST • By Anthony Franco The Giants are in agreement with free agent catcher Tom Murphy on a two-year deal with a 2026 club option, according to multiple reports. The Ballengee Group client is reportedly guaranteed $8.25MM, including a $250K buyout on the option. The deal can max out at $12MM. Murphy heads to the Bay Area after five seasons in the Pacific Northwest. The right-handed hitter played a semi-regular role during his time with the Mariners. On a rate basis, Murphy has been one of the most productive power bats at the catcher position.I n 807 plate appearances with Seattle, Murphy blasted 38 home runs. He hit .250/.324/.460 overall, well above-average offense in one of the sport’s more pitcher-friendly home parks. That’s excellent production for a #2 catcher. However, that Murphy has only stepped to the plate 807 times over the last five years also points to a concerning injury history. Going back to the start of 2020, the Buffalo product has missed time with a fractured left foot, a left shoulder dislocation and a sprained left thumb. The foot injury cost him the entire shortened season, while the shoulder limited him to 14 games in 2022. Last season’s thumb issue, suffered in mid-August, ended his year...
  14. Trying not to be negative, but can Buffalo Rapids general posts be moved to General Discussions. It seems out of place for a Buffalo Bulls forum.
  15. Any school that was started in a tavern, must be feared. "Roberts Wesleyan University was originally established as Chili Seminary by Benjamin Titus Roberts in 1866. Roberts was a social activist who opposed slavery and oppression of the poor, and was a supporter of women's right to vote. He began the school to train young people to become servant leaders with high moral character. Having first used a local tavern as a school, in 1869 a three story brick building was erected. There were 56 students total that year."
  16. I live in Texas these days and never heard of Tarleton, but after looking it up, it's a 6 hour drive away from me and west of Fort Worth, so I'll forgive myself. A long time D1 coach in Billy Gillespie. But the ranking list looks more like a random hodgepodge without any details. And UB is such an unknown that it could be anywhere on anyone's list without an argument from me.
  17. A football stand alone organization outside the NCAA? https://www.knightcommission.org/2023/08...t-17-2023/
  18. I agree 100% with everything UB92 and BrooklynBill have said. But that's looking in the rearview mirror. Universities and conferences have sold their soul to TV, and networks/streaming services are now and will continue to call the shots into the foreseeable future. So the easiest way to expand viewership is to widen the interst in each came for the general audience. At the top of the card you'll have the battles for championships for interest. In the middle of the card you'll have traditional rivalries for interest. But adding the threat of relagation, and suddenly a late November game between Indiana and Northwestern becomes must-watch-tv. The broadcast is being produced anyway, so with no extra cost, you've increased interest in your product. Viewership is cash. Will it happen soon? Nah. In 10 years? Hmm...maybe.
  19. I suggested this (obvious) concept a while back that was met with little interest. I wept. 🙂 But it seems others have a very similar idea (with better graphics). Who knows? These are strange times. Or maybe it just makes too much sense.
  20. All the talk now is rightfully about the conference version of Hunger Games, but I ultimately see this as an NCAA issue. With football revenue driving the decisions, at some point someone will say "Why split it with the NCAA?" I could easily see a separate football body of four 16 - team conferences and the NCAA left with basketball, baseball and the Olympic sports. And the lesser football schools. With a much smaller pot of money. If I'm the NCAA, I'd be very nervous about all of the Fox/ESPN/conference back room meetings.
  21. Some WVU potential transfer insight. https://voiceofmotown.com/two-west-virginia-players-could-transfer-and-be-eligible-elsewhere-immediately/
