  1. The championship game was in Arizona. Does he get a pass because he is close to his brother?
  2. Winning a championship in Alabama is significant for both the school and Oats. Not winning a championship in Kentucky would be significant for both the school and Oats if he went there. Alabama can compete and probably offer more on every level except history. It's also an 18 million buyout, plus a significant jump in salary to make Oats think about moving. Base on SI, his new contract is top 5 at 5 million a year. He has a huge contract with a huge buyout. Saban is gone. He is now the face of 'Bama sports.
  3. And we have Jay Wright and his connection to HCGH and UB. Lot of connections for this game
  4. 100% agree. There was no way we would of ever of beaten the offer from Alabama or any other. Those schools can always say more. UB can't, there is a point were the money just isn't there. We also don't know what really happened behind closed doors with Oats. He did sign a buyout within hours of accepting another job. Maybe is was part of the negotiation on his part and 'bama said the highest we will go on a buyout is X?
  5. It might be become a double edge sword for the now paid student athletes. Workers comp maxes out at around $1200 wk or 2/3 of pay. Imagine a player getting injured and the scholarship went from 100% to 66%. It could end up saving schools money and also making them more willing to bench a player for being injured and paying them less.
  6. I don't the think having Hodgson would of fixed anything. Oats is that good. UB is going to be a segment on his 30 for 30 on day
  7. Wait till he finds out it's in Ohio, which is in Canada 🙃
  8. It's 10000000000000% a SUNY thing. SUNY already made a choice to kill athletics in the 1970s. Their track record is not good.
  9. On the bright side we can't get worse then what we were this year. Heres to looking up!
  10. UB is a very good university with what can be a solid mid-major program. We just need to find the self aware student atheletes who are good enough at basketball to play D1 at a high level. But know that this is it after 4 years so better get the best education they can.
  11. Please some give us some more details.
  12. I mean Akron had the rubber bowl..... Kent state I'm sure they have something I can make fun of in their past.
  13. My downplaying wasn't so much as we don't need it. But more of we don't need a lot of money to compete. We don't need millions to compete with the top athletes because we aren't going to get them anyways. I feel the public looks at the top deals and thinks all deals are somewhere in that realm. When the reality is that at the top the money may be millions, but on average NIL deals are well well under 10k. That's if there is any NIL deal. A UB collective could probably have a fund well under $1 million and still be highly competitive nationally. Recruiting goes hand in hand with this too. UB needs to be self aware that we are still going after mid major talent, with the off chance of getting an under the radar player. Maybe pick off a P5 bench player who will want to get more playing time and maybe a little more money, or even a little less money.
  14. you would think there would be some level of coordination with arguably one the most accomplished Atheltes to come out of UB for this?
  15. SUNY rules about athletic scholarships pre 1986 ruined decades of history UB could of had. We have been playing catch up and at times there still seems to be some deeply embedded mindset that students are their for an education the school doesn't need athletics. Previous Presidents and ADs who want to change this perception were basically ran out the door or offered little support to see their visions through (Simpson and UB2020, White and to some degree Manuel and Green). The culture of leadership needs to change for anything to be effective. Schools have had years to work on it. If Albany and Stony Brook can get things set up what is taking UB so long? UB actively working on setting up a collective isn't a goal, plan or excuse anymore. Its a failure in leadership and process to not have it already done and running for almost 2 years now.
  16. At first I was going to write how UB is a SUNY school and those politics are and have been ruinous for UB in the past. See UB2020 and the resignation letter from Simpson for past examples. However both Albany and Stony Brook have NIL collectives.... There has to be something behind closed doors going on. I don't understand how UB can be much behind on this new NIL landscape.
  17. Totally forgot the other coaches name but we got under his skin a got him T'd up for yelling at us.
  18. The Pitt game close to (checks math) 20 years ago? WTF I'm old. The game where Reggies was hitting the refs table buzzer to get BG back out of the locker rooms because the ran away with time still in the game.
  19. It seems your just hell bent on making UB into a P5 school with pulling money out of every where because there is bound to be waste so the money is there.
  20. It's understandable that you're concerned about the allocation of resources within the university, particularly towards athletics and other programs such as the swim team. However, it's important to consider the broader financial dynamics and obligations that universities face, especially those with major athletic programs. Financial Constraints: Universities operate within budgetary constraints, with funding allocated to various departments and programs based on a range of factors including historical commitments, donor preferences, and institutional priorities. While reallocating resources may seem straightforward, it often involves complex financial decisions and trade-offs. Athletics as Revenue Source: Major universities often rely on revenue generated by their athletic programs to support various aspects of the institution, including scholarships, facilities, and academic programs. Eliminating "body bag games," where smaller teams are paid to play larger, more competitive teams, may impact the revenue streams crucial for sustaining the athletic department and other university initiatives. Compliance and Equity: Universities must comply with Title IX regulations, which mandate gender equity in athletic opportunities and funding. This means that decisions regarding resource allocation must consider equity across different sports and gender lines. Simply reallocating funds from one area to another may not be feasible without risking non-compliance with these regulations. Long-Term Planning: While reallocating funds to support specific programs like the swim team may seem like a solution in the short term, it's essential to consider the long-term sustainability and impact on the university's overall mission and strategic goals. Sustainable funding models require careful planning and consideration of various factors beyond immediate financial needs. Stakeholder Involvement: Decisions about resource allocation typically involve input from various stakeholders, including faculty, administrators, students, alumni, and donors. It's essential to engage these stakeholders in transparent and inclusive decision-making processes to ensure buy-in and support for any proposed changes. In summary, while addressing concerns about resource allocation within the university is valid, it's essential to recognize the complexities involved in reallocating funds, especially within the context of a major university with diverse financial obligations and stakeholder interests. Any proposed changes should be part of a comprehensive, well-informed strategy that considers the long-term implications and aligns with the institution's broader mission and values.
  21. Its hard when there is a fundamental miss understanding of what NIL money is. The school just can't take money from the Arts Department and fund a NIL program to pay athletes and charter flights through NIL.
  22. So 5 charter filghts? With pulling money out of nowhere. The school itself cannot be anywhere near how the money if spread out to players. I'm also sure that $1.4 million would put us near to top of college ball I thought you were agains buy out games?
  23. To not know what these programs bring to the school is a bit naive. UB is a top flight Public University part of that is the school does need to cater to nearly everybody.
  24. You used the $9m number. It could be any amount of money Athletics can't touch it. Also a CBA states very clearly that UB must spend X amount of money on the CBA group. How would 4.4 million change things. All it would get is a coach for a few years out on a money grab. Our facilites need closer to $40 million in upgrades. Which are also capital improvements and being a public university needs a lengthy approval and political process, and possible bond that needs to be voted on by various stake holders. "There not choosing were to spend the money out of one pot," - yes, they're. The president could simply allocate more money to athletics rather than the countless waste. You really don't think there is $20 million dollars of waste on that campus? Your reasoning here is 100% false and illegal in many cases both civilly and criminally. It would open up UB civil actions brought on by the CBA groups. There would be also criminal liability for the president do such action because it amounts to fraud. Again a University can not directly pay into an NIL that is still not allowed. NIL are meant for outside groups to be able to pay student athletes for services that use there name image or likeness.
