Finess Dickson appears to have left UB WBB

Athletes become slaves to the system built to profit from our success, handcuffed to the fear of losing the opportunities attached to our dreams.

Boilerplate nonsense. There is absolutely no way that any university is profiting from the success of any women’s athletic program in any sport. Accepting an athletic scholarship to represent a university is a voluntary choice. It is not slavery. This young woman comes across as bitter and misguided. Anyone who falls for this kind of crap is a major league bull shitter.

Everyone is to blame for everything...that is the message I am hearing from this article and many like it that have been written.

The author has no appreciation of what real slavery is and the horrors of being a slave with no hope of another life. She, like so many others, cheapens a powerful word for her own benefit. Ms. Dickson, you CHOSE to play basketball at this level and you knew it was going to be 4-5 years of sacrifice and physical and emotional strain and even pain. I'm sorry it was too much for you. But you are free to do something that real slaves (and there are millions of them around the world even today) can never do - and that is walk away and lead a free life.

Doesn’t call out anybody by name but it’s implied.

This is the standard writing of someone who took a bunch of easy A type Social science courses where you just have to repeat the professor’s view back to them.

Many kids struggle to develop an identity outside of their sport and lack a purpose when the realize their time with the sport comes to an end.  They then blame others and claim they were victims.

The fact they open with discussion or rape is frankly appalling if they only are trying to draw parallels between their situation and those at places like Penn State or Michigan State.

They are so privileged to have the option to be able to choose or turn down the great opportunities.

I thought this was relevant to post, but don't want to speculate too much here as it is obviously a sensitive topic and her sister is still playing.

She's still showing on the athletics website as being on the roster.

I thought that was odd.  Earlier this season it was said that she was injured. Though I would imagine that her talking as a "former student-athlete" in the article means that her UB BB career is over.

this is something.

on the day of the double header too?

She hasn't played or even been on the sidelines for the games this year. Which is odd given that Summer has been rehabbing her leg/ankle/low extremity and she has been along the sideline for all women's games.

I wish her the best, hope she gets the help she needs, and applaud her for having the strength to write about something so personal to her.

Kounkou and Adams did not get much time...not sure about Hamilton. Departures happen every season on almost every team across the country, especially in recent years. We also brought in two transfers this season.

If a few players are unhappy, they should leave...no use in being somewhere you do not want to be. The team is doing just fine.

5 in ONE off season to leave the team. Over a third of the team leaving!! That is unusual. Men didn't lose anybody!!

Hamilton says she left because she thought she wouldn't get the playing time this season.  She was probably the best of the forwards last year (without Hemphill).

Doesn't seem like Coach Jack is instilling a "team" atmosphere here.

Well, the team is better this season than they were last year.

Are you insinuating Coach Jack should go or is not a good coach? Bc that is laughable. She has brought more sustained success to this program than any UB team has ever had.

If a player isn't happy or can't hack it...they can go. Again, it doesn't help the player or team for someone to stay if they do not want to be here.
