BullsFan14
Buffale News Rachel Lenzi. Wrote an article on Dontay that I thought was interesting, highlighting the transition to more of a defensive mind. https://buffalonews.com/2019/02/01/dontay-caruthers-ub-mens-basketball-defensive-specialist-mac/
DooleyBull06
Great stuff on an unsung hero on this team. He’s been an emotional leader and is ferocious on defense and when he drives to the basket. Side note: Rachel Lenzi has been doing a great job covering us. Dontay has shown senior maturity in all parts of his game. He used to get upset and lose his focus when called for fouls. His offensive game has really been on the upswing. If Harris and Perkins start playing up to their potential along with some free throw shooting improvement from Jordan we should be okay. Go Bulls!!!! xDerekRx
He's remembering that he used to be a scorer recently, which should be a boost to an already great offensive team once everyone is clicking again.
Big 4 Hoops Blogger
Dontay Caruthers has always had the scoring touch, it just wasn't his role. He was a tremendous playmaker in high school. It just wasn't necessary for him at Buffalo with guys like CJ Massinburg, Nick Perkins and Jeremy Harris besides him. He embraced becoming a defensive stopper in order to pick up playing time. Now, with 2/3 of the Bulls "Big 3" struggling, UB has needed him to step up and that's exactly what he's done. For anyone that has attended a UB practice, it's easy to see he possesses the skills. It's always been about having the opportunity, which he now has. UB85
Dontay has been superb. We’re lucky to have him. He is a perfect example of what a team player is and should be. Excellent role model for his teammates. Edited February 4, 2019 by UB85
mikescherrer8
The only nitpick I have to say about Dontay is, he has turned the ball over a lot the last 5 games. Turned it over 6 times against Bowling Green. That stat has to go way down. But he has been one of our best shooters and defenders. And as a senior, he is stepping up. Time for Perkins and Harris to step up too.
trueblue32
I'm not sure what pro basketball prospects Caruthers has but I'd love to see him pull a Quinten Rollins. Rollins led the MAC in steals his senior year at Miami (OH) then played football as a CB for one year, won MAC defensive POY and was a 2nd round pick in the NFL draft. UBigbobby
Dontay is very boom or bust. Luckily he's been more boom this year. He's tenacious and one of the best defenders in the nation. However he's also often wild and out of control and prone to carless turnovers. Great guy to have coming off the bench.

We're going to need that production from him moving forward.

I think we can get some of the younger people some more experience and still roll over CMU. 🤞

Hasn’t practiced all week, but has improved significantly. May play today.
weareub46
Crazy he played the whole game haha. I guess he recovered really quickly because he didn’t seem bothered at all. Meanwhile CJ definitely wasn’t 100%. Maybe it’s all just a mental game Oats plays with opponents Belichick style haha

Maybe it’s all just a mental game Oats plays with opponents Belichick style haha Crazy how good and how long Caruthers played. In the warmups he did not shoot or run around much and was talking to the trainer a number of times. He did lock down their two top guards when he was guarding them. CJ’s right shoulder was definitely bothering him as he was moving and flexing it during the game and had an ice pack on it on the bench. Still a total lack of confidence with Harris on 3 pointers. We will need all three of these players the rest of the way to finish first in conference play. Go Bulls!!!!
