Fantastic second half by the women today, against Toledo, in their Alzheimer's Awareness Game.  They overcame a 10 point deficit, to earn a 10 point victory.

What a tale of 2 halves, they were awful in the first. They definitely got an earful at halftime, scoring twice as many points in the 2nd half as the first. Big win over a good team. Saturday will be a big one also. Hopefully the crowd is strong for the women's game, not just the men's. It's a should be a fun day!

"Give credit to Toledo," head coach Felisha Legette-Jack said. "Tricia Cullop is one of the best coaches in the country in my opinion. They have a fantastic team, but we have a good team too. We kind of looked like we didn't belong out there and we talked to them a little harshly at halftime to remind them that they do matter and they are enough."

FLJ is a hell of a coach, really turned the game around.  CD got into her groove later in the game, having more turnovers than points for about half of the game, which is extremely rare for her.  But she made a few clutch 3 pointers and sealed the W.  Hannah Hall continues to be a huge asset on defense too.

Awful does not even describe the first half. There was no energy, no ball movement, Dillard with 2 points forcing shots and have turnover after turnover.and the worst part was no defensive intensity. The 2nd half was total reversal of the 1st half. Ball movement was quick and as a result had many layups and they played great team defense that created 19 Toledo turnovers. Good games from Hemphill who is starting to take quality shots and continues to be our only true post player who can rebound, and Morrison with 14 points. Off night for Dillard with 17 points but she did have 9 assists and 6 steals. Big positive was their free throw shooting 20-23!!!!!  Somehow coach Jack has to figure out a rotation with Morrison and Adeyeye along with Hemphill as we continue to get out rebounded. I continue to say that Wilkins is playing out of position as a power forward. She is a defensive liability underneath with no strength and quickness. In spite of some of the team’s ups and downs in games here we are 7-2 in conference and hope to see a good crowd at Sat’s doubleheader. Go Bulls!!!!

Morrison was big late in the game...even with missing a few chippies, she converted some huge baskets. When Hemphill was on the floor in the 2nd half, UB was the far superior team. When she had to sit with foul trouble, it got tight again. Great decision by coach to bring Hemphill back in with 4 fouls with about 6 or so minutes remaining(not that there was much choice but even another minute could have changed the game).

This was a big result in terms of at-large possibilities...going into the week UB was the 3rd last team in according to the ESPN bracketology. A 15-3 regular season and reaching the MAC final would essentially give UB a lock for an at-large. 14-4 and a final loss or even 15-3 and a loss in the semis to CMU/Ohio and I feel we would still have a strong chance. If UB, CMU and Ohio all end up with no more than 4 MAC losses and assuming no huge upsets in the tourney, there is a very realistic chance of all three getting bids.

I think what the girl’s team has done this season is the blueprint for how we would want the men’s team to be next year.

With all the talent and leadership that was lost many thought this would be a down year but FLJ has done a tremendous job getting the most out of the team. And the team has responded and overcome adversity. I know having Dillard is a huge advantage but still. Opponents know she is a beast and yet she still goes off and makes her teammates better.

Translating it to the men...we could only hope next year’s “down year” resembles the women this year. Solid in conference play and a threat to win the conference tournament. We will have holdover talent from this season. Add some new prospects and hopefully growth from this year’s freshman and we can remain a threat.

Agree this team has overachieved to some degree. Dillard and Hemphill were the only true frontline players from last year. All the other players have not come close to compensating for last year’s loss. Losing Dillard will leave a big hole in the rotation as far as scoring and assists. Unless FLJ can hit on a incoming freshman or a JUCO who can come in and replace Dillard all the momentum of these last few years will be lost. Such is life in college basketball. Go Bulls!!!!!
