RecoveringHillbilly
I sat there thinking if it goes to OT there is no way we win when we dont have a quality kicker vs their All MAC specialist. Bingo. I don't fault the time out on the 4th and 1 since the clock was running down, but how can you trust a true frosh there for over 40 yards? Just because he made a prayer from 52, that is 1 kick vs the sample size and percentages. I prefered to go for it and if you come up short, then fine. But we were so good on short yardage today. zigo230
Ugh. Just awful. The story of this season are a Really good Oline and RBs getting offset by Poor kicking game, and nothing special at QB or WR. Although it was good to see some of the other receivers get some action today. D played hard on the home field, made some plays, just couldn’t close it out. My son and I went through all of the scenarios on that 4th and before they made the decision. It was very clear that the best option, overwhelmingly, was to go for it. It was disappointing, but not surprising that they went for the FG since the decision-making of this staff, for all these years, has been head-scratching at times. And, of course, we had a decided disadvantage if this went into OT.

I think this game showed there would be little drop off if Vantrease gets more playing time. He was 10 for 10 to start, and would have finished 18-23 for over 200, if not for 2 very bad third down drops by Lefebvre. Myers may become like Rourke, but the last few games with him the passing game was truly lacking, and his turnovers killed us.
rma
I think this is less on the kicker (yes he missed both fgs and an xp) and more on the coach(es) for putting him in those situations. 4th and 1 with that clock left you go for it to eat up their timeouts. Outside of a turnover worse case you kick a closer FG and Ohio gets the ball back with minimal time left.
promotherobot
How hard is it to find a kicker that can make 75% of his kicks? My local high school team has a girl soccer player kicking for them that hasn't missed from inside 40 yards all season. This is a colossal failure on Leipold. We've never had reliable kicking in his tenure.
