rma
Probably good for recruiting too. Tell a recruit you get to go to a bowl game in Toronto, Boise, Mobile.....meh...Bahamas? they'll go for that.

jwfickett
Congratulations on a winning season and looking forward to our match up in the Bahamas. I expect a fairly good contingent of Niners will be there. The story of our team this year is pretty cool. First year head coach Will Healy has us humming through a five game winning streak. Didn't look so pretty in October, though. We were 2-5, having lost 4 straight, and most of CFB left us for dead. The staff got the players to turn it on though, and we came back from 3 scores down in the North Texas game to win on a hail mary TD catch. Since then, we've been rolling, and having more fun than any other program in the country along the way. Our staff turns our locker room into Club Lit after every win, and the players play for that chance to get wild. Multiple commitments from recruits have happened there this year. Our scouting report is as follows: Chris Reynolds, QB (R. Soph.) - dual threat. decent, but not spectacular arm, pretty accurate. Good WR corps to throw to. Victor Tucker is our standout WR. Spread RPO offense. Benny LeMay, RB (R. Sr) / Aaron McAllister (Jr) and Ishod Finger (Fr). in relief. LeMay is an all conference tailback, emotional leader, and force of nature. Went for over 1000 this year even missing 3 games with a foot injury. McA and Finger did well handling the load in his absence and have great attributes in their own right. Defense 4-2-5. Edge rusher and human bulldozer, Alex Highsmith is second in the nation in sacks with 14.5, including 4.5 yesterday against ODU. Projected 2d or 3d round draft pick. Double him all you want, good luck. Nafees Lyon and Jacione Fugate are our floating DBs, Lyon is great in coverage, Fugate is good for some big blow up hits every game but often overplays the big hit and gets embarrassed, too. He's feast or famine. Jeff Gemmell is our star LB, has fought injuries this year, but has great hands and lateral quickness. Often use him to spy the QB. We have some issues tackling and have given up some big plays this year because of it. Especially on ST and early in games when we can't quite settle in. Defense has been markedly better in the second half every game. Our offense will spread it around, Reynolds is sneaky athletic and will gash you on the RPO if your LBs bite too hard on the fakes. We're still learning how to win and finish games but we are getting there quickly. I have a feeling this will be a very competitive match up. zigo230
Should be a good game. Awesome location. After getting snubbed a couple years ago this is a nice reward for the coaches, players and staff. Was checking out the Charlotte reaction on Twitter. Lots of their fans seems ticked they could’ve had 20,000 fans attend a nearby Bowl (their first ever) but now only a few hundred may attend tops. Nugget49er
Charlotte is a new team, in our 7th year of football and 5th of FBS. This is our first winning season, first bowl, and frankly as fans, we don't know what to think. We fired the coach that founded our program and brought in young Will Healy, and he seems to endorse the Peter Drucker quote “Culture eats strategy for breakfast”. He has turned the same basic team that got Brad Lambert fired into a bowl team in months, and we are all very excited about the future. I expect our team to be ready to play, but we are not deep, so that puts us at a disadvantage in games.

If I was a first time bowl team, I would want one in my backyard to help build the culture and the fanbase. Belk would have done that. That said, the players probably aren't upset that they're going to the Bahamas.

ChicagoBull
Was watching the Battle for Atlantis on Friday and apparently there was a major power outage on the island. Fortunately, Atlantis had generators, but even they went out, once right in the middle of a guy making a layup. Atlantis itself looks amazing. UB05
What a great location for the players! Easily our best bowl “destination” so far. I know next to nothing about the Charlotte team, so thanks to the guest posters for the information. I was extremely frustrated about a couple of the close losses earlier in the year and their implications on our bowl selection, but it all worked out great. Kudos to our players and staff, I hope they can enjoy themselves AND give us our first bowl victory.

promotherobot
It's worth noting Charlotte has direct flights to Nassau. Not that they are any cheaper. (Those airlines pick up on things fairly quickly, don't they?) $714 R/T from Charlotte but only $616 R/T from Boston. Either way you are looking at $1000 for a weekend. If you go on Hotels.com the Baha Mar is on sale for $188/nt. This is an 5-star excellent resort at an unbelievable price. Plus they have a casino and sports book if you want to try and win your trip cost back. If you want to go cheap there is a hostel on the beach called Baha Sea Backpackers. On Hotels.com it's going for $53/nt. You can get around by cab for $25-30 a ride, or you can try the Jitney buses. These are privately-owned buses that run set routes around the island. $1.25 a ride but they have weird run times, so be prepared to cab it if you get stuck. The #10B jitney starts downtown at George and Duke Sts and will get you close to the stadium at Thompson and Bahamas Games Blvd. As much as I would love to go, I doubt I can swing it. The rest of you have a blast. If you do stay at Baha Mar, or the Melia next door, there is a place called The Daiquiri Shack right off the traffic circle on West Bay. Real fruit daiquiris and smoothies made on the spot. Highly recommend it. Edited December 2, 2019 by promotherobot
rma
Posted it on the 49er forum yesterday but RT from BUF to NAS (via CLT) is ~$60 cheaper than the same flight from CLT-NAS. So despite the nonstop flight, they’re in the same boat as us from a cost perspective.
Andy9911
Having attended both universities I'm torn on who to root for! I guess since I ultimately graduated from Charlotte I should probably root for them. Patterson should have a great game though! Hopefully it's close and exciting! rma
Lenzi's article on TBN. https://buffalonews.com/2019/12/01/university-buffalo-football-charlotte-bahamas-bowl-2019-5-things/ A few Buffalo connections in Charlotte: Quote Tommy Doctor is a redshirt senior and a defensive lineman for the 49ers, and a 2014 graduate of Grand Island High School. Tyler Ringwood, a redshirt junior, is a wide receiver and a 2016 graduate of Bishop Timon-St. Jude. Doctor's father, Tom, was a linebacker at Canisius College and played for the Buffalo Bills and his uncle, Sean, played at Marshall and also played for the Bills. Tommy Doctor has 25 tackles in 11 games this season. Ringwood played at Erie Community College in 2017 after a season at UB, and transfered to Charlotte prior to the 2018 season. Ringwood has 20 catches for 331 yards and five touchdowns this season. Aapri Washington on the Bulls is from Charlotte.
promotherobot
You might want to look at Jet Blue vacation packages. I found a 2 night deal out of Boston for $

I found a 2 night deal out of Boston for $750 I did not think about doing that, because of how I was going try to get back to New York. I even tried to fly back after the game. However, that is not realistic with having to clear both security and customs in Nassau. I ended up with abut the same price with a free room at the courtyard Friday night and out first thing Saturday morning, for about hte same price JetBlue was offering. Yes....when you actually put some thought into it. its like my sister who gives us Texas Roadhouse gift cards for Christmas knowing full well that my son, her nephew, his deathly allergic to peanuts, if you didn’t know, Texas Roadhouse is one of those places that give you a basket full of peanuts for the table that you shell and just throw on the floor. so yea, the gesture is nice and well intentioned, but there’s no thought in it
