If I commit to a job and leave a month later without accomplishing anything, I'm an a$$hole. Just sayin'...

Also, I wonder how the D-linemen feel that signed commitment letters to this team YESTERDAY...

I feel the same way... DLine was our deepest position that we recruited and now all of these kids will be playing directly under a new coach. Wouldn't be surprised to see a transfer or two at the end of the year

Do you think may be that some of the players were coming to UB for an education and not just to play for an assistant?  Also at least one of the lineman s a transfer from a JUCO which means that they would have to sit a year before they play their last season.  Not sure how many programs would want a player with only one season of eligibility left.

Some of the players might feel that way, which is why I said we might see a transfer or two, not that they were all going to transfer.

And as far as programs taking players with 1 year of eligibility left, it happens.. Does Chazz Anderson ring a bell?

Anderson could play immediately.  These players would have to sit a year unless they dropped to FCS or lower.

Point still stands... one year of eligibility left

Just finished watching the special, it was really well done. High production value, and Paul Peck once again shows that he is an outstanding person to be the face of UB Football TV/Radio.

I really really like this years class, they are going to do some great things for this program.

The ESPN3 stream is outstanding right. I almost missed the bus taking my kids to school and hopefully I have a light morning when I get to work because it's out of this world exciting.
Go Bulls!

I also hope to find some free time at work to watch this, it looks awesome! 2 hours of UB hype on ESPN3, sign me up!

Exciting get on paper. This guy has the most impressive list of offers since we were able to land James Potts. Hopefully Hawkins tenure here at UB will be more stable and successful than Mr. Potts.
7  UB Sports / Buffalo Bulls Football / Re: Lance Leipold New Head Coach on: February 02, 2015, 03:14:49 PM
Hey guys.  I am from UW-Whitewater and know Lance and most of his staff very well.  I read this thread and thought I would make some comments about what I saw here.

First, Lance can most certainly recruit.  He came back here after a number of years away, and hit the ground running and brought in a bunch of talent.  Yeah it was Division 3 talent, but you still have to go to kid's homes and convince them and their parents that this is the place for them.  He benefited greatly from being close to suburban Chicago, which is rich in football talent.  But he still had to go get it.

Second, you will see a pretty traditional offense and defense.  Offense will emphasize the running game with some spread concepts, but mostly a traditional drop back look.  Defense is a traditional 4/3 that emphasizes getting to the quarterback.  Rarely blitzes unless absolutely necessary.  One thing you will notice is that players are very fundamentally sound.  He spends a great deal of time during practice on fundamentals, something that I think he learned from coaching under both Barry Alvarez and Frank Solich.

Third, the loss to Buffalo State started a season that was his worst here.  I think he learned a valuable lesson there.  We had a number of transfers that season from D2 programs, and while they were talented, they didn't really buy in to what the staff was doing.  He will build this program up from the base and in my opinion will not go the quick fix route with Jucos and the like.  It may take a year or two to notice change.

Finally, Lance is a super guy.  Very intense on the field.  Pretty quiet but focused off of it.  His family is wonderful as well.  Brian Borland (defensive coordinator) played against him in high school and actually has been defensive coordinator here longer than Lance has been head coach.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.  I can check in now and again.

Thanks for stopping by, appreciate the insight.

Agreed with others, the song didn't match at all. The point comes across though, and I can't wait for opening day!

A prediction is that UB may have a decent size class of JUCO transfers this year.  Based upon some of the new "follows" by the coaching staff on Twitter it looks there has been a decent amount of contacts with JUCOs in search of this year's recruiting class.

This would make sense considering our staffs late start to the recruiting game.
10  UB Sports / Football Recruiting / Re: Enos leaves CMU - My top 3 CMU guys to go after on: January 26, 2015, 10:42:38 AM
My point is that there should be some honor and ethics in the recruiting game.  If a kid says he is reconsidering a verbal commitment then talk to the kid.  If the kid remains committed leave him alone.

The words "honor and ethics" are rarely ever stated when talking about recruiting in college athletics. You know this.

Not sure what you're getting at here Brook. Bottom line is verbals are just verbals, nothing is official until signing day, as we all know. Maybe there is some unwritten rule about not going after someone elses verbals, but if there is a coaching change anyone is fair game imo. Kids often times commit to a coach more so then the school itself. As BIE noted, the same thing happened to us during our coaching changes. Lance would be smart to at the very least gauge interest on these kids and let them know what he has to offer as a coach.

Thanks.

Looks like a decent get, nice size and good frame to add more weight.

This is an awesome video from CMU... They tricked the players in thinking the were going down the road to lovely detroit, when they were really going to the Bahamas

That is great

The following post below is my opinion, don't sue me.
**************************************************************************************************************************

As UB football fans do we really want UW-Whitewater to really go much farther? I mean Lance and his staff need to be in Buffalo where there is a lot of work to be done after Jeff Quinn's recruiting for the four years in my opinion. The sooner UW-Whitewater goes home the better for UB football we (UB fans) gain nothing with UW-Whitewater continuing there season much longer it puts off work that needs to be done at UB with UB football recruiting and getting the current UB football players offseason program for next season going with new playbooks, new weight training conditioning programs etc in my opinion. Let's Go Buffalo

Put yourself in their shoes.. Lance is leaving a program that he's been around basically his whole life. I would expect him to give nothing less than 100% to finish his last year as national champions. I hope he comes to Buffalo a defending national champion.

Still one of the greatest moments in UB history. The raw emotion from Turner during that interview, and directly after the emotion from Ward Manuel in a long hug. This meant so much to both of those guys, and the team. Something i'll always remember!
