FYI, @salinterdonato is the best media feed on Army's practices and injuries

Army will have an OL with 5 new starters. They had 2 returnees coming in but their best lineman, T Justin Gilbert (6'7" 271), will miss the season. Then today they said Left G Steven Shumaker (6' 282) won't start as he has not practiced. Their board also says RB Raymond Maples is gimpy. In their press conference their coach (who mentioned his time as an assistant at UB) said many injuries and little OL depth besides freshmen. He also respects Tepper and is worried about the various fronts UB will present with his inexperienced line. I'll predict many 4-man looks with Sokoli teaming with Barksdale/Ford to gain more size vs the diving Army pee-wee line. Clog the middle and let Skinner-Stockman-Redden clean up.

As the bullrun articles pointed out Striggles had a very, very tough day. It wasn't until after the game that I read Baker didn't play due to illness. It was Striggles' first career start and Duquesne knew to go after him instead of Lester. An interference call, several 10+ receptions, burned on the long TD..not good. They said today Baker won't be back for Army, but that shouldn't hurt badly as Army rarely throws and Striggles, while not fast, is a smart, physical CB. So he has to concentrate on getting off blocks and containing the edge. But we NEED Baker back for Baylor. He's the other CB starter and winning the job wasn't close this spring.
4  UB Sports / Football Recruiting / Re: 2015 Commit - Duke Hwang on: June 26, 2014, 10:36:59 PM
He was a BULL for North on their way through Sweet Home and to the title game. A few days ago when I checked out his twitter page his pic was of him standing next to an evil orange 'S'. So I didn't have any expectation that he'd make a quick choice. Very glad he made the RIGHT choice and changed that pic quickly.

Don't know what they mean regarding Hanner since he had no 'last season'. No mention of Wigginton at all? I expect him to pick up a big part of Freelove's lost scoring. And no points given toward the 'Impact Player' score for Bearden? ESPN had him ranked #28 PG.

Akron with Dambrot 6th in the East, with NIU 2nd in the West? Yeah ok...
6  UB Sports / Basketball Recruiting / Offer to interesting 'local' kid, Emmitt Holt on: May 21, 2014, 01:13:09 AM
This kid from Webster Schroeder HS has been a rising name since last season when he averaged 19.8/14.6/5 blks and earned All-State 2nd Team. Very much in the McCrea mold, mature build with long arms but 6'6"-6'7" is keeping the major programs like SU from offering. Canisius offered, and he's said Kent St and NJIT have as well. I've read on forums that he moved from Newark, NY and knows McCrea's family, so that's a plus. He's with the City Rocks now and is listed as a 2015 since he will likely go prep to gain more looks.

You know what I mean.

Within much of this thread, I don't, actually.

Spare me combine stuff, we all know that on the field production is all that matters.

Michael Sam: "Man oh man, wish you could've been the GM making the picks"

Shayne Skov: "WTF?!!? PAC 12 1st team, multiple all-American lists, and I end up a UDFA!?!?"

Carlson to the Bears, Najja to the Steelers.

11  UB Sports / Buffalo Bulls Football / Re: Ranking the MAC Coaches on: May 01, 2014, 12:06:43 PM
Hahaha! Martin and Whipple ahead of Campbell and Carey before they have even coached an FBS game? I didn't realize D2 and JVS records could be counted in an overall coaching ranking. In that case, Hofher with his high-major assistant history and a 45-35 record with six .500+ seasons at Cornell, could have been ranked top 6 in a similar list if by some time-warp he stepped into the UB job today.

Rich mentioned in recent years he was very close to purchasing the SF Giants. He lobbied for the expansion slot but was looking for a smaller expansion fee than what Colorado and Florida paid out. He talked and wrote often to sway more revenue sharing and that was a big regret for him, in hindsight. He conceded that, without changes to revenue sharing, any MLB team he might have brought here would not be in good shape.

NBA here? Meh. NHL ratings obviously rule, with a few marque NBA games with Heat and Thunder doing ok to very well. Otherwise the majority of NBA ratings are blah. In good times the FNC would be packed since everyone loves going there but, just like the Bills/NFL, the NBA is a more 'corporate' league. Fans and ratings only go so far if your city isn't full of excess white-color jobs and Fortune 500 coffers. That point is hammered home by outsiders each time they describe the Bills' relocation options. As it is the Bills have had to expand their market reach because they have sucked about all the revenue they can here.

The Bandits are a small-time throw-in each time the Sabres have been sold, drawing crowds (with 40+ % being Canadians from just over the border) but never competing with the Sabres for revenues with the shared ownership. NBA here would be like squeezing blood from a stone for the needed winter revenues. And, if the Bills can rarely draw many high-level FA's here, the NBA here would prove equally tough. Vancouver was never very good since players didn't want to play there, and today Milwaukee, Minnesota, and Detroit have all struggled to improve their rosters, other than the draft.
13  UB Sports / Buffalo Bulls Football / Re: Khalil Mack Memorable Moments and what you can expect on: May 01, 2014, 01:50:38 AM
That play sums up all the superlatives which make Mack's pass rush special: strength, speed, deceptiveness, leverage, balance. He's like a 5-tool baseball player when it comes to his pass-rushing. I've rarely heard a draft analyst rave about a devastating defensive player in terms like 'superior balance' that make him sound like a star RB, or 'masterful understanding of leverage' that make him sound like an Olympic wrestler.
14  UB Sports / Football Recruiting / 2015 commit, Brandon Smiley on: May 01, 2014, 01:35:01 AM
6' 2" WR/DB playing at Sweet Home. Yet another big, quick athlete from the Panthers. 1st team Class A All-state DB as a JR. Big play DB but looks like we have recruited him as WR right now. He's not quite as fast or as smooth as Jordan Johnson, and runs a bit too upright right now...but then again, it works for Starks, so what do I know.
15  UB Sports / Buffalo Bulls Football / Re: Bull Run 2014 Spring Game Thread on: April 19, 2014, 11:44:12 PM
I missed another spring game due to travel for the holiday but could at least sneak away to watch it online. Checking out the spring game write-ups and highlights of UB vs UMass, the differences between the squads remains clear: mistakes. Checking out UMass's sieve OLine and QB play was painful. For us, as much as having back-up QB's and a steady wind slowed our offenses at times, there were very few mistakes or huge breakdowns. I thought the Spectrum graded the units fairly. I felt better after watching this game of attrition than past spring games early on with Quinn when there were some big offensive and defensive numbers that may have given false hope, but lots of youth, poor depth, and a slew of errors.
