All those passes against Ohio U in the first quarter, and the spring game, gave them an ample amount of material to base potential on...
Sarcasm by chance?

My two cents, if Jerry is the QB for the season, this is going to be a very long and frustrating year. Someone has to step up and make opposing D's respect the pass or the RB's are going to have a stacked box to deal with.
Ok, Im curious what KaMassare and yourself are seeing that is leading you to that conclusion. Because what I saw from Davis the 09 spring game when he was competing with Maynard for the starting job, there wasnt to big of a difference between them, and led me to think that both could have operated the offense efficiently. So what are you guys seeing?
He has always struggled to pick up the game plan and now the game plan has become more difficult. He has looked very confused all off season and is not getting it. I do not doubt his athletic arm, it is putting the ball where it should be is the issue. The easy ball the throw is the long out like the one he threw to Namaan. Let's see if he has the quick strike, the out, touch to TE (if they play a factor this year!) I just do not see him being a D 1 QB. Maybe a great WR or secondary. I sure hope I eat my worlds but this time I think I am correct.

I think you're half right. Davis does not have the arm strength to throw a 20 yard rope across his body (like Maynard did) but he has shown more touch as a QB than Mayanrd. Depending on the plays Quinn runs touch is going to be arguabally more important than velocity.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. Its just that the throws your looking for him to make, were the ones he did a pretty good job of hitting during the spring game. If he has problem picking up the new game plan, then yes, it could be bad.

And to be clear, I was being sarcastic. No one really knows how Davis will fare if he is the starter.

I totally disagree. This is a fast strike quick pitch O. You need a very fast read and an ever faster release.

I think that Davis will be the opening day starter. Will he finish the season as the starter? I would bet not

How soon some forget that Davis put up gaudy HS numbers, had a verbal commit to 'zona State as a Jr, and was rated the #101 QB by Rivals. For anyone to say he's not a D-1 QB obviously does not remember how UB once had QB's pre-Gill who were TRULY not D-1 caliber. Of course, he would have never been the #1 QB for the Sun Devils with Jack Elway in that same class, but if Dennis Erickson wanted him on his team at one time he has D-1 talent. Maynard was a 2-star QB as well, with no BCS offers (UB, Temple and MTSU) and only claims from his coaches he was 'under-recruited' and his jumping from school to school was purely for competitive reasons.
With that said he couldn't beat out Maynard, and most here recall Maynard's 2009 full of int's and other poor decisions. He's also regarded as
maybe
6' 1", not a tall sturdy presence under center that many want. So he has a long way to go to establish the fan's trust. I think he's the clear leader to start the season, but as others have alluded there is one player that could unseat him before the season ends in Zordich.

We are all hoping that he can show a glimpse of what brought him to UB. Don't get me wrong, the deep out to Namaan was a beautiful ball. From everything I have seend and heard, struggling with the O. Let's call it like it is. We are a month and a couple of weeks until the start of the season. If he is struggling now, I can only imaginewhat is giong to happen when the bullets are flying.

The better questions should be: Who will take the most snaps under center this year?

How about both of them?
UB coach Jeff Quinn hopes to have an established starter at QB by the season opener against Rhode Island, but didn’t rule out using a two-quarterback system if need be.
“I will not hesitate playing both Jerry Davis and Alex Dennison if both of them have proven they are capable of playing at the level that we expect.’’
Davis, a sophomore, and Dennison, a redshirt freshman, are the two leading candidates, but Quinn didn’t rule out playing one of the true freshmen. From that group, Alex Zordich will get a long, Rudy Johnson has the potential to play another position while Tyler Warden, a walk-on, is considered a long shot.
Quinn expressed a desire to name a starting quarterback sooner than later, while acknowledging this situation calls for a more flexible approach.

I believe that a dual QB system can work, but that an offense will benefit more from one QB playing all the time. I hope that Quinn can name a full time starter, although if he thinks that a dual QB system will work, than I'm all for it

I don't think warden has any more hurdles that Davis or anyone else...everyone is starting at a flat line of offensive knowledge and its going to be a effort on the players part to learn this NEW offense. Its going to take composer..which no one has proven. Its going to take knowledge of the game which no one has proven and its going to take a leader to fdrive this young team which no one has shown. How can anyone predict on this blog...its impossible. I've seen upper classemen get beat out before...whats the suprise? Age is not the difference..its leadership. Who can sit in shotgun composed and have the inteligence to make good decisions without panic? I would not be suprised to see a fresh step up mid season and blow peoples minds. It may happen..and as long as we are winning who cares?

I do not see a two headed QB situation working in thies situation. Bring one in for running and one for passing? I do not see that being succesful.
