"Chinonso Obokoh is a 6-foot-9, 210-pound sophomore from the African nation of Nigeria, who at the very least will give the Kings a shot-blocker in the middle of the team's defense. There is potential that Obokoh could contribute more. Much more.

"He has very good footwork, is very athletic and plays hard," Irondequoit coach Chris Cardon said....."He's not there yet," Bishop Kearney coach Jon Boon said. "Defensively, he does some things because of how long he is...."Offensively, he's a work in progress. Colleges are projecting what he could become. What they love about him is how he runs the floor."

Coaches at the State University of New York at Buffalo and James Madison like what they have seen so far to offer Obokoh scholarships....Boon said that an assistant coach from at least one school in each of the power conferences has contacted him about Obokoh."

Pretty cool to see BKHS coming to my hometown to play my alma mater in the annual Coaches vs Cancer three day tournament. Which is a real quality tourney for a small town at Southside High.

Little update on his offers:

Obokoh also has scholarship offers from Miami (Fla.), Dayton, James Madison and the University at Buffalo.

While SU and West Virginia haven't formally offered to Obokoh, "they've said they really want him," Boon said. SU hasn't had a starter from the Rochester area since Pittsford Sutherland's Ryan Blackwell (1998-2000).

I'm convinced Syracuse just sits back and waits to see who the midmajors are going after before deciding which ones they want to poach from us.
