Eh, i don't think Warde even opens up his mouth on this subject unless they have some kind of funding plan already in the works. Even if Jacobs isn't a major player, there's something going on beneath the surface. I'm not saying it's a slam dunk that UB starts D-1 hockey but I doubt the school is reliant on him. Warde must've know Jacobs "donation" was just a rumor before he made his public comment.

I think Warde opened his mouth because the cat got out of the bag about the meetings. Now he could have taken the meeting because he was serious or because he was being polite and hearing out some schools...

I'm with Exile on this. Warde obviously would love to have a Hockey program, so it's not surprising that he'll check out meetings and weigh his options. Actually committing to a program is a totally different thing. Sadly, unless we get a very large contribution from a donor specifically related to Hockey, I don't see the current administration spending money on creating a Hockey program.

Looks like Bowling Green will not be a driving force in a new league, at least not right away.

That could be the end of UB's Div 1 hockey dreams or it could allow time for a more thought out and better plan to move up to D1.
I am always the optimist. At least there was a lot of talk and interest.

This will never happen unless we get a large donation, or success in a major sport (i.e. football or basketball) results in money pouring into the athletics department. Given the current situation, even if we say scrapped baseball, I don't see the university administration permitting any funds to be reallocated towards creating a hockey program. There's no way they can justify creating an additional sport, when tuition is been raised by 20%.
FWIW, here's this year's budget so far for the Club Hockey team. Looks like the Amherst Ice Rink (is that what it's now called?) charges $2100 per month.

Buckys tweets from today are odd. He seems behind by a couple weeks. But hes a media member so you think he would at least know whats going on. Makes me wonder what he might actually know... or could just be him not doing his research.

I've asked a bruins writer who used to work with SBNation to try and get some info during the media days... He said if he gets a chance he will ask for me..

UB was rumored to be a possible 6th member of a reconfigured CCHA. UB will not be joining the WCHA anytime soon. If we are having problems getting funding for a new program, we are not going to take it to a west coast conference with all that travel.

We could have been the 6th member of the CCHA with BGSU and a few AHA moving over. Now with BGSU to WCHA and ND officially to HE, the CCHA will have 0 members in 2013. BGSU gives the WCHA 9 members in 2013. What's left according to BGSU's
AD
is if the WCHA wants to get to 10+ (I think it's far more likely we would be going with the AHA and its 12 scholarships for cost containment):
CHN: Are we done, or can we expect more?
Christopher: Well, Huntsville is still out there, and
there will be a resolution with (University at) Buffalo
. Those are the obvious ones. Maybe there's some other things. The WCHA — we've already talked internally about whether we want to be at nine or some other number. It's more a long-term conversation.
CHN: Does Huntsville have hope in that regard?
Christopher: I don't know what the plan is yet with the other WCHA members, or commissioner Bruce McLeod. I know we supported Huntsville being part of the CCHA when that came up a couple of years ago.

Nothing new on UB hockey! Nothing new!
I just wanted to post the details of what the Sabres have planned for their potential rinks for the
Webster Block
project they are calling 'HarborCenter':
"One rink would seat 1,800 spectators and would be marketed as a venue for hockey tournaments and other skating events. The rinks could host youth-focused training camps and provide abundant opportunities for public skating."
- BN
The cost for just the floor with the ice facilities? $36.8 Mil. Take that as a reasonable guess at what costs would start at for UB to build its own 2-surface ice facilty.
Just from that capacity and the designs posted below, I don't see UB ever pushing to start hockey specifically to play there if the Sabres plan is chosen. The main rink as planned would be the same capacity as Buff St Ice Arena, still smaller than NU and RIT's, and slightly larger than Northtowns' feature rink. And no room for seating expansion. It just screams "This is our home rink, signifying AHA forever"

I don't think I've ever seen a place where ice time isn't at a premium.

The only team that would probably play there, if optioned, would be Canisius. The poor D1 Griffs have to let D3 Buff State let them use their arena. Although Ive said it before the Bengals have a really nice on campus ice rink, even for D3.
RITs stadium is solid. I think Miami Ohio built a 50mil arena in recent years. Looks great but you hardly get alot of seating for the money in an ice rink.
If UB went D1 youd certainly start small. Small conference (too bad the smallest of the conferences is no more), Amherst (pepsi) Center for the home venue. Possibly games at the FN Center.
Too bad nothing came about from last years meetings. But I still think its a matter of time before they get a D1 club. Probably within 10 years.
