The following is from Bruce Fldman's Mailbag on cbssports.com last Friday...............interesting view, that echos a lot of the discussion on this board about Coach Quinn; K-93, I'm guessin' you and the boys at the Rent aren't missing Randy too badly  :-)

***************************

From @crsegar What would it take for Edsall to be fired after this season?

I've always thought that it's crazy to hire a guy and then fire him after just two or three seasons. You're just not giving the guy a chance to recruit to his system and establish his program. It does take time, and in some cases more than others. Now, if there is a scandal or NCAA issues, it's a different story in regards to how much room a new coach merits. And, for as bad as the Danny O'Brien transfer saga looks, it's nothing that some wins can't remedy from the Terps standpoint.

You almost have no choice but to ride this out for another two seasons if you're Maryland. Randy Edsall's far from a first-time head coach. Maryland knew, or at least should've known what it was getting. Short of another 2-10 season, I don't see how they'd fire him, and even then, I'm not sure they'd pull the plug. Financially, it'd be such a hit for the school, but obviously thus far it's been disastrous but they're on the hook now and they have to give him a chance to turn things around.

Quinn is like a rock of stability compared to Edsall.  Down here Edsall has gotten bashed on a regular basis by media.  MD beat Miami in that first game (when half of Miami was suspended)...and since then, every decision he's made has been killed by fans, media, alumni and even anonymous players.  He and the AD were forced to reverse their decision and let Danny O'Brien and the other 2 players transfer anywhere they want.  It was a small bit of damage control.  Quinn has not alienated fans and players nearly to the level of Edsall.

It is interesting to look back at Gill vs Quinn and Edsal and Paul P.  Both formar coaches did very good jobs with their previous teams and have failed with their new teams.  both new coaches came in and have also not done great either.  However, from what I can tell the UCONN and UB fan bases have for the most part been very please with recruiting.  Coach Quinn and Paul P. have fans excited about the next few years even though we really don't know what we will get.

Edsall has a way about him and most Maryland players and media he inherited were not ready for his controlling personality.   If you look at Edsall's recruiting this year, in my opinion, it is the best Maryland has seen in a while.  He landed some top notch athletes.  I personally feel Edsall will turn the program around but he needs to get his type of players into his system to make it work.  Most likely next year will not go well for him, but the year after you will see a nice improvement.  His team will eventually become a running team that plays very good defense.  I think he landed 2 four star RB's this year.

However, I do believe if money is not an issue at Maryland then randy will probably be gone after next year.

I predict, Quinn wins big in 2 years and leaves for Oklahoma!

Oh come on... like a Big 12 team would ever poach a UB coach with just one winning season .....

You gave me a good laugh K-93........I see it now; the Sooners win only 10 games next year; Bob Stoops (Ohio guy) gets fired and replaces Terry Bowden, who moves on to the ACC.......Quinn to OU.......V-Man to the edge of the cliff :-)

Only fair:

If you can't see the difference between Chan Gailey and Jeff Quinn then there is no point discussing it.

'OK Fitz, we're down 44-7 here, but we're driving. We got Fred Jackson and he's gone for 100+ yards but, you're our guy so why the hell not, go to Donald here."

2nd and 6 at DAL 7  (Shotgun) R.Fitzpatrick pass short left intended for D.Jones INTERCEPTED by F.Walker at DAL 1. F.Walker pushed ob at DAL 6 for 5 yards (D.Jones).

Talk to me when Quinn wins more games total than Chan did in one season.

That's your rebuttal?? I didn't doubt it, actually. Keep crowing about your coach on fan forums like he got them to the playoffs...oh, wait, not his fault he had injuries....while Quinn has no excuse he just sucks, my mistake.

It never ceases to amaze me how you stick up for that loser Quinn and yet point fingers at the Bills.  While the Bills have not been very good for a while they aren't the bottom-of-the-barrel sinkhole of a football program UB has become again under Coach Quinn.   I love UB.  I have season tickets to UB football,.  I want UB football to succeed, but the Bills will never be as bad as UB is now in a million years.

At the base level, they do not differ: Both with strong prior coaching credentials but 2 losing seasons, no bowl/no playoffs, fans hating their playcalling when Defenses catch up to what they are doing. Big deal the Bills started out on fire, they faded, just like years past.

UB football, bottom of the barrel of FBS? With programs like NM, UNLV, Idaho, etc. out there? Sorry that's simply not true.

The Bills? NOT the bottom of the NFL barrel! Hmm...The longest playoff drought (in a league where parity rules?! Really?!)......5th longest playoff win drought....3rd longest division-title drought.....having to piss off fans playing T.O. games because they earn 3X the revenue of 1 RWS game.....all those recent blackouts and a pitifull 45K showing for a game....being seen as Siberia for free agents because of their cheap rep.....players leave town and become superstars elsewhere...yearly draft busts.....only team with paranoia about the future ownership situation.....the Jag's new owner is committed, Minnesota and Oakland are getting new stadia so, opps, guess they are no longer ahead of the Bills on the first-ticket-to-L.A.-list like some want to believe

Hilbilly, sorry, but your argument here is illogical nonsense.
