I assume most of you have heard about the horrible shooting in Colorado last night during the Batman movie. The whole thing is disgusting and awful and my thoughts go out to all of those who were effected by such a tragic event.

I know this may seem out of place even despite me putting it in the "General Discussion" section however I came across something that really grinded my gears that I needed to get off my chest and this is one of the few places that other people (not all of you) can relate to my Syracuse U. hatred. There are many factors as to why I dislike the university so much but I won't go into all of that. However, if any of you share my dislike of SU you can feel free to PM me I love talking about it.

Back to the main topic here... I was scanning through facebook (bored at work) and notices a ton of people talking about the whole shooting incident. Normally I take anything on facebook with a grain of salt but something came up that I couldn't hold in. I came across what UB posted about the incident which said something along the lines of "Our prayers are with everyone effected". Nice. I have a couple friends who go to SU so when one of them liked the SU status it came up on my news feed. Directly copied it states "Our thoughts are with Stephen Barton, recent SU grad, who was wounded in the Colorado shooting this morning." Now this is all fine and I wish Stephen a quick recovery but does it bother anybody else that SU decided to only mention the SU grad who was injured? I do not intend to take anything away from Stephen at all but there were reports of a 3 month old baby being shot to death from point blank range (Sorry to be gruesome). I don't know I guess it just really rubs me the wrong way that they only decided to mention the one SU grad who was injured when there are families in Colorado who have lost relatives forever. It just seems self-centered and almost rude to me that they (intentionally or not) failed to recognize any of the other members who were killed or injured.

Now before you send me some hate mail let me be fair. I have had a hatred for SU for a long time now and it would be a lie to say that wasn't a factor. I know that when I really dislike somebody, everything they do starts to bother me even if it is a ridiculous thing to get mad over. Similarly, I have hated SU for a while now and anything they seem to do bothers me haha. ALSO, I do not personally want to make it seem like I am disregarding the pain that Stephen must be going through and nobody should belittle anybodys feelings who was hurt during the shooting. Again, my thoughts go out to ALL of those effected.

Am I wrong to get upset? Maybe. And feel free to voice your opinion if you think I'm wrong. I'm very interested to see what other people think of this and I never mind a good debate. There are a lot of things floating around on facebook (NOT valid sources I know) of the democratic party blaming the tea party for the event etc. and it's honestly pretty disgusting. I want to make it clear that I don't want to go around pointing fingers because then we all forget about the real victims. I guess it just seemed to bother me and again I may be wrongly feeling this way just because I like SU. If you have an opinion def. let me know what you think.

I hope all of those who were effected have a fast and full recovery physically and mentally. The thoughts and prayers of the people of this country and the world are with you all.

I suppose one would think SU would follow that status up with "along with the other victims of this crime..."...so I do agree with you. It almost (to me) sounds like a marketing act.

How dare you. It's not a "Marketing Act".

Pot, meet kettle.

Quite frankly, the OP asking this question and you saying this aren't that much different from what you two are upset at SU for. You're grasping at straws and it's disgusting. You're upset that SU isn't showing enough concern in your opinion for the scale of the tragedy as it exists beyond SU and that emotion leads you to... dog about SU.

Fact is, it's human nature in an instance like this to put your family first in your thoughts.  It doesn't matter if it is blood family, university family, work family...  That's all that the SU post was doing.  Would it have been nice for them to follow up with "along with all of the other victims"?  Sure it would.  What's important is that we all keep those that were injured, and the families of those that lost their lives, in our thoughts and prayers.

@BCBull from what I gathered from your post you are saying that by complaining about them I am only putting myself in the same boat as them. Honestly thats pretty fair I'm not gunna lie. I started regretting posting that about 45 mins after I did. My hate for cuse got the best of me and I myself was then putting the victims on the back burner which is just as wrong. I apologize if I upset anybody. However, I do not think it was a marketing act. I guess at the time it just seemed unfair to the others but CH makes a good point. Thanks for the input
