If you could wave a magic wand and change something about college football, what would it be?  And why would you do that?

Bring Nebraska back into the Big XII.............and send WVU to the ACC; geographically logical conference alignments/rivalries.

Veranda, only for OU/NU every year the way it was meant to be.  Despite being a bit disappointed last year, most fans I talk to feel like the Big Ten is a good fit.  We shall see over time.  The Sooners have really had bad Karma so far this year.  Wow.  I'll wait a bit to toss in my centavos.

Imagine a playoff system where there are 8 teams in the playoffs:  the six conference champs of the "big 6" (former BCS) leagues and two wild-card selections who are the highest ranked team in some polling system (such as the BCS).  Undefeated teams who also win their conference championship games (non big 6) are automatics, regardless of polling position.

The top six slots are all from the big 6 (and ranked by the polling system).

Then....

QF  (8 v 1;  7 v 2;  6 v 3;  5 v 4)

Semi Finals

Finals

Three weekends of college football madness.

The big 6 schools get the edge.  The "little guys" (if they are good enough in any given year) get to make it to the tournament.  This gives very strong two-conference leagues (like the SEC last year) the chance to have two (or three, I guess) teams in the tournament.   Every team in the country has a shot (if only a very, very long shot) to win a championship...just like the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

That is how I would change college football.

A combination of both FCS and FBS post-season systems?

I'd go with a 16 team playoff. 11 conference winners plus 5 at large teams.

I agree. Any type of fair playoff would be way better than the stupid BCS seedings and bowl game BS

16 sounds about right too. Its only another 4 weeks worth. Which isn't that much, given to huge space between the end of the season and the BCS game.

I would put a cap on total staff compensation, and I mean from all sources.
Eliminate contact with athletes prior to June 1 at the end of their Junior year.
Eliminate bowls for teams that do not have winning records, but allow them to practice until the second week in Jan with a required no go period of one week for kids to go home for the holidays.
End over-signing.  And if you pull a scolie from a player, you do not get it back.  (to end some of the SEC shenanigans.
No playoff.  Bowl season is more fun when more bowls matter in the end.  Since the BCS started, I watch far fewer BCS bowl games since they really don't matter much to the MNC.  Maybe I would watch playoff games more, but I am not sure I will.

If there has to be a playoff, then I want six 10 team conf that all play a 9 game round robin and the six conf champs plus two wild card teams are in the playoffs.  If bowls remain, they can fight for the also rans.  Criteria for inclusion is average attendance for the previous 10 years must be 30,000.  Minimum APR.
