it's been reported that UB gave him a 5 year contract. Let’s hope th AD did the right hire for such  a long term contract.

This is pretty standard.  It is hard to go into a recruits home and not have the contract guarantee that you will be there the whole time they are.

As for the hire, I don't need coach speak today, Mo did enough of that to get me through the next 5 years.  I just want a football guy, who doesn't care about the distractions. I will be interested to see what kind of staff he builds around him.

  2. 100% agree that this team should not be in a close contest again D2 and D3 competition, but let's just maybe look at it from a small positive in that this experienced group will benefit more from having to play in a close game, than beating a bad team by 30.

It's really not about the opponent this year, but finding an identity and seeing what this group does in tough situations.

Still not expecting much from them in the long run, but these experiences are a lot better for this group in November.

What success did we have exactly? We had won the MAC 4 out of 5 years, had perhaps our greatest recruiting class in the history of the school which included an NBA-level talent (as you mentioned), and we were filling our arena nightly with an energized fanbase. The future was bright and the program was poised to maintain its position as a national midmajor power, until we switched coaches and proceeded to:

     - Year 1: Lose by double digits to the 12-seed in the first round of the MAC tourney

     - Year 2: Lose by double digits to the 5-seed in the MAC Championship, followed by a first round loss in the NIT

     - Year 3: Lose to the 4-seed in the first round of the MAC tourney

     - Year 4: Lose by 24pts to the 4-seed in the first round of the MAC tourney - after a sub .500 season

You cannot fault our fanbase for being completely pissed off at that downward spiral. He'll always be remembered as the guy who tanked our program.

Sorry I know this is getting off topic, but I still wonder to this day, would people's minds be different if COVID shut down year one five days earlier and the loss to #12 Miami never happened?

Updated NCAA statistics, Courtney Okwara still 2nd in the nation and 1st in the MAC in hitting percentage. Abby Leigh top 43rd in the nation in hitting percentage and 3rd in the MAC. Trebichavská 2nd in the nation and 1st in the MAC in aces.

UB RPI up to 70; it was up to 66 a few weeks earlier.

RPI can take a huge jump if the Bulls can pull off the road win at Western Michigan tomorrow night.

Wayyyyyyyy too early for that.  Elite pash rusher yes, but HOF?  I'm not sure (yet).

I know what you are getting at, but he is in his 10th year in the league.. I don't think it's way to early for the conversation...I think there is a pretty good idea if the answer is yes or no.

SUNY has nothing to do with it. Collectives are private entities created by donors. The school/state has nothing to do with it.

Correct.. This would be a fail from the Athletic Director and the Blue & White Club not being more proactive in keeping with the trends of intercollegiate athletics.

UB is not going to rush an AC for in a single event over one summer. An A/C would be a capital improvement on the scale of 100s of thousands if not a few million.

The larger assessment is what is the demand of AA as a venue in the short hot summers of Buffalo? The cost benefit analysis of it, etc. It's a lot more involved then dropping a few units in the windows.

I know it's a hill i'm gonna die on but we need to disconnect TBT from UB. It's a great story and headline for fans. But I think we are over estimating the PR value. The focus should be on current student athletes, and NILs.

AC would be for more than a single event.  It would be for every men's and women's basketball practice, every volleyball practice, every wrestling practice, and all strength and conditioning workouts.  Our student-athletes deserve to have AC.  There were times practice would have to be canceled due to unsafe conditions in the gym.

An event like this would have been one of the best ways to potentially get this for our current athletes and coaches.

  8. It's the lack of support again from Administration.  It is extra work that they don't want to do for the basketball programs. I am sure some employees would have to give up summer vacations and cushy hours to put this event on and they didn't want to give that time and support.

If Blue Collar U was a football team, you know ADMA would be putting all his resources into it.

I just watched the Bryan Hodgson presser at Arkansas State and I must admit he makes an impressive performance:

And has added longtime UB assistant Jamie Quarles to his staff:

    https://astateredwolves.com/news/2023/3/29/jamie-quarles-named-a-state-mens-basketball-assistant-coach.aspx

Was also wondering if Hodgson was responsible for recruiting Jeenathan Williams?

Yes he recruited Jeenathan and it was great job.  But also remember, it was Coach Whitesell who developed Jeenathan during his freshman year.  While on Oats' staff, Jim was in charge of the scout team, which is usually the freshmen.  So Jim is a big part of the development of guys like CJ, Perk, Jeenathan, and Rondo.

This is the reason why I hope he can get another shot as an assistant somewhere, because he makes players better!

As a high school coach or as a two-year assistant under Hurley? Fair point though, and why I won't write anyone off before seeing their performance. Hard to get excited though knowing we targeted, got somewhat close to landing, and lost the guy many of us considered to be the dream candidate.

Probably either. If we had a high school coach and a two-year MAC assistant, what would we think?

Butler's applications jumped 50% after the final four runs. Still voted #1 school in Mid-West by Newsweek. One of the smallest schools in a power conference. Matta rebuilding program back to where it was under Stevens and Holtman. 716 native Kevin Kuwick is assistant HC and 716 born Greg Oden on staff.

Unfortunately while the 2018-19 season was nice, the lack of that team's ability to get past the Round of 32 kind of made them forgettable in the national eye.

We can talk about their record all we want, but people still talk about George Mason in 2006 and and St. Peter's as these great Cinderella stories, but we were a six seed, who lost in the second round.

And I say this, because while it obviously helped Nate out tremendously, what did it really do for our school?  Did applications jump? Did UB become more known nationally in the long run for that season or were they just more known during the year.

You know, the more I see the FAU's and the Princeton's this year, the truth is that team slightly underachieved when the bright lights were on them in March...I say that with acknowledging the terrible matchup with Texas Tech.

Looks like some wrestling boosters donated enough for a nice little upgrade to the locker room.

So then where is UB's development team trying to improve Alumni Arena?  Kids want nice things and they aren't seeing it when they walk into the basketball facilities.

We might all say that UB Stadium is an eye sore to watch a game, but those kids have top notch facilities they can use year round.  They don't worry as much about the stadium they play in six times a year.

It's honestly probably as simple as this and it's infuriating

Let's take a look at three locker room photos here... MBB, Wrestling, Football..

The football locker room is on another level, but even our wrestling locker room is nicer than what we provide for basketball.

I'm just trying to wrap my head around how this could happen. Alnutt did hire Maurice Linguist and he was considered a solid get. So why now the s##t show? Something feels weird, like everyone's not pulling in the same direction.

I don't know how many times I can say this.  Alnutt is a football guy.  The more he brings down MBB, the better Football looks.  When was the last time he did any sort of improvements for Hoops?  Football is getting something new every day over in their facility, while there have been zero improvements to Alumni Arena.

I am sure coaches are asking what his vision is for basketball and what capital projects are in the works. I am sure they can see how uncommitted he is

Jesus. Someone call the local chevy or ford dealership. Tell them to give some kids some pickups or something.

Men's basketball was the only team last year that an NIL Collective and that was completely put together by Whitesell and his brother.

Going back to Alnutt, it is clear he is a football guy and he has pulled resources from men's basketball to use for Football.  Why would someone want to come here and realize they have zero support from administration.
