  1. I haven't read through all of this so sorry if it has been spoken about, but i truly believe this is what Alnutt wants. He doesn't want basketball to surpass our football program. He is ok with a .500 basketball team as long as football is successful. I don't believe he is the right AD to lead this athletic department, but he is college football through and through and it will not change.
  2. I mean the truth is Jayvon is the third best player on this team after Mballa and Jeenathan and our third best player is still good enough for 16 points a game. This is a good thing. Those guys are better than Jayvon and the ball should be in their hands more than him.
  3. Miami has canceled their next two games due to COVID issues. This very well could go back to the UB-Miami game last week. Good possibility the RedHawks infected UB, which then translated to Syracuse. this is college basketball's nightmare playing out
  4. I'm assuming you missed the Miami game then? Because we shot 42% from three in that game. Do that in the Dome on Saturday and we win.
  5. I think we are over analyzing this decision a bit. I think this is more of an acting head coach by committee between all three assistants. Jamie does a great job running our offense and he did that to a tee yesterday. You just need one guy who stands and rides the officials a bit and AT has a little more experience doing that. But I am sure AT and Jamie both have a lot of say in what is going on here. If this was a long absence by Whitesell and we were really talking about an Acting/Interim HC than I can see this conversation being a little more in depth, but for three games I have no problem with the way it is being handled.
  6. At this level you can choose to put your money and resources into Football or basketball. I feel like Danny White chose basketball and Allen rode the coattails of that. Alnutt has made it clear we are a football school. He was extremely cheap when it came to choosing a head coach and anyone that follows his twitter account can see he is more concerned about his Kansas City Chiefs than our men's basketball program.
  7. I would say the answer is this year, but I think after two games around a pandemic is a little premature. Expressing concerns is one thing, but I think this team deserves an opportunity to get comfortable in a season that is anything, but normal. I'd like to give this team December to see improvement against some very difficult competition. This might not always equate to wins, but this is an important month for this team.
  8. I will again say what I said in another thread. JW is a good dude and a hell of an assistant coach, but he is our head coach because of administration's refusal to put money into our basketball programs. This is the way it will be under Alnutt...He is a football guy through and through... If Lance leaves for another job after this year, I guarantee Alnutt will not be cheap with that hire.
  9. Some positives from the weekend... Nickelberry had a great game against Army with 11 points and I think he will be a big part of this season if we want to be succesfull. Mballa didn't play second game with a foot injury.. That is a big loss and its probably a very different game with him in there...let's hope we can get him back soon. I wish we would have had Robinson this weekend because I think he would given quality minutes. I didn't think Graves played well at all this weekend...He's a veteran with a lot of games under his belt, you have to think that will change in a big way. Let's just all agree that we should stop playing Army and let's get ready for an early season MAC opener!
  10. The Army -9.5 came right from ESPN.com. I can only report on what I read.. If you guys saw something different than that's fine. I guess I am just confused as to why everyone thinks our struggles from last year wouldn't still continue. Season ended, our guys left campus and were in quarantine.. They never got an offseason workout plan in with the coaching staff and nobody was here over the summer to get workouts in. This is kind of off topic, but I think it leads to a bigger point.. I think this new administration under Mark Alnutt has clearly made a shift from caring one bit about basketball and just putting all their eggs into football (ie. Fieldhouse and a locker room that is nice than NFL facilities). Whitesell does deserve some blame, but I think the bigger blame should be placed on our administration for clearly showing their lack of care for our men's and women's basketball programs.
  11. It’s comical how clueless most of you are on this board. Did any of you do research on army before you trashed them or did you just decided they aren’t good because thats what you felt like? did you know Army was 9.5 point favorites today? Did you know their average of victory this season was 41.5 points? im not say UB played well, but you are making it seem like we lost to a youth team. when you play a service academy it’s all about discipline and they were more disciplined then us.
  12. It's not that simple. Those NEC and America East teams want money to go on the road...money that UB doesn't have right now. You've seen the budget shortfall that the department is in right now. So the only schools they can afford to bring into Alumni Arena are probably non Division I schools.
  13. Maybe Mballa will continue to play sixth man just like Perkins. It has always worked for our program. As it relates to Brock, if you ask Perkins why he was so successful in his career, he will give a lot of credit to Brock and how hard he practiced against him every day. If Brock's main job is to make Mballa better each day, then keep doing that. I get we want him to contribute more in games, but there is a lot more to a program than just the 15-20 minutes Brock might play in a game.
  14. Can this argument just be over with already. Yes we lost in the first round but guess what we played as many games in Cleveland as every other team in the league.
  15. Scheduling is not going to be easy this year and if fans are not allowed then the guarantees from the bigger schools won't be nearly as large. The issue is as mid-majors look to cut budgets it is less likely that we will be able to spend money on bringing opponents into Alumni. But as a team that should be pretty good again next year, schools might not want to buy us as it is not a "guaranteed win". I think there is a good chance the Paradise Jam doesn't happen this year...maybe it gets moved to the US, but that's no guarantee. I know it doesn't sound very exciting, but I could see a situation where we might play St. Bomaventure and Canisius twice this year home and away. I think it helps a lot from a money standpoint and it gets each team games. I know its not super attractive, but it might need to happen for one year.
  16. Good for him, but why should we all be so scared that he is coming back. Honestly, we should have beaten that team twice last year. They have Turner and Plowden, but what other play on that team scares you at all?
  17. Well if the whole tournament is meaningless then are you fine with them vacating their win in the first round and the men vacating their first round loss? You can’t just pick and choose which games you vacate.
  18. I don't want this post to come off as sexist, but a lot of students don't care about mid-major women's basketball, the same way they don't really care about men's and women's tennis, wrestling, swimming and Diving, and volleyball. Let's be happy with the fans that show up. They are actually far more passionate then the men's crowds despite being a fourth of the size and sometimes they are actually much louder.
  19. Not disagreeing here, but doesn't alot of this fall on Oats and Hodgson. Nate maybe always knew he was out after this past season and didn't really do a very good job setting this team up for long-term success. If we want Jim to build this team into his group, that takes time. So for us to have 18 wins in a season with no leaders and maybe a team that doesn't fit with Jim's style of coaching is actually pretty impressive.
  20. I understand the criticism, but it just frustrates me that for the four games in a row that we won, this thread is silent and then we lose one game and everyone jumps on Whitesell. Other than Grant, nobody seems to ever blame the players... Maybe Graves shouldn't have shot 6-for-17 last night or maybe things are different in the second half if Jeenathan is healthy.. But then again I forget we would probably be 28-0 with any other head coach this season.
  21. It's not an excuse.. Traveling in this league is hard and it takes a toll on the players. Yes Ball State played four games in the same time, but three of those four were at home. For as good as last year's team was, we had two stretches in MAC play when we played three of four games on the road. Guess what, we lost a road game both times during those stretches. I don't understand the criticism of this tweet. It comes from someone who is around the team at all times and travels with them. They know more than anyone the difficulties of playing on the road so much in a short period of time.
  22. I know always back him, but I thought Whitesell showed a lot of the passion and energy people on this board were questioning. He was trying to fire the crowd up multiple times and he smacked the scorer's table after an Ohio offensive rebound. Was good to see that energy in such a competitive game.
  23. So this is going to be one of those years where nobody gives the coaching staff credit after a road win, but will be the first to come back on here after every loss?
  24. I stopped reading once I saw Kevin. If I didn’t know that he was already a hack I would have assumed that Bryan Hodgson has a burner account on here.
  25. Everyone mentions the concern about losing at home, but let me ask you this... What really gives us a home court advantage? We haven't played a single game with students in town.. We've played very few games with band and dance team. Our crowds for the most part don't make any noise until maybe the final moments of game outside of a few golf claps here and there. I have to think our arena is so welcoming to an opposing team, it is like playing a neutral site these days. Our crowds and our fans are not good.. That's the bottom line. Yes we have our diehards and I am sure the team appreciates their support, but the majority of the fans that come to the game do not make the building an intimidating atmosphere for opposing teams.
