  1. Agree with many of the comments on the game. We seen the first game against Daemen and this game was a 100% difference by the entire team. The team with Watson handling the ball along with the other guards were impressive breaking the press. With many of the players being underclassmen if they continue to improve this could be a very interesting year. Very impressed with their free throw shooting 31-39!! Coach Burke did say the team followed the game plan to perfection so kudos go to the entire coaching staff and players. One note that could of affected the game was that Angel Parker was not dressed for the game and think it was some kind of injury. The other Parker sister was very impressive again and was impressed with UB’s Davis who had 15 points and 10 rebounds and is a presence down low. Finally a glimmer of hope for us sports fans as our men, both the Sabres and Bills have gone to the dogs and look like no hope for any improvement. Will be there tomorrow to see if the men show any semblance of improvement. Go Bulls!!!
  2. I do agree but I do think she has to be better offensively for the team to have success as I was only talking about her offense being off and I do agree with her size she needs to contribute as you mentioned with rebounds and assists. Disappointing to see Johnson not in better shape and there are a couple of other players that could get more playing time. Again these are the hard choices for a coaching staff not to just give Johnson playing time because she has been here for a couple years. It will be interesting to see how this team will look after a few more games. Wonder what the crowd will look like for the doubleheader next Monday. Our family will be there in section 114 to support our teams. Go Bulls!!
  3. Was at both men and women’s games and a few observations. Does really look like a total work in progress for both teams. Following both coaching staffs, there seemed to be much more enthusiasm and attitude on the women’s side. I thought the entire men’s staff was very laid back and not much attitude from the bench. The women look to have a few players with some quickness and athletic ability but both their point guards were very sloppy and loose with the ball. Disappointed with the play of Smith on the men’s side and Ogden on the women’s side who had a bad shooting game similar to last year. Again only one game and now the real games begin and am looking forward to improvement and with both coaching staffs figuring out their top 7/8 players. Go Bulls!!!
  4. Do agree. Patience is a virtue and looking forward to see how this team and coaching staff can evolve. Agree with many of the observations from the game and will add Daemen overall was quicker and had better ball movement but did not shoot the ball well. Concerned about our rebounding as I did not see players crashing the boards especially on the offensive end. Still hope for progress from game to game. One other question is I believe the women are playing Daemen at 2 pm on Saturday. Is this a freebie as we don’t have tickets in our season tickets? Go Bulls!!
  5. Do agree. Looks like solid coaching hires and BB has already filled some spots on the roster so she has not been crying woe is me with all that has happened. I for one am going to give this entire team a break instead of having non factual opinions and speculations. But of course that is what we do as fans. What has happened with the transfer mess and with coaches being fired and retiring has changed the entire mindset of players and coaches and has changed the college experience and enjoyment for many of us fans. Will still continue to support our teams and try and enjoy college sports. Go Bulls!!!
  6. Out of town now but did listen to Coach Halcovage III introduction and was impressed with his impression of our area and what his direction is for the program. Any idea on what he was offered and was it a step down from what he was making at Villanova?? Will be interesting what kind of player he can recruit here both as freshmen and transfers. Will also be interesting to see how Alnutt and company can promote this hire and create more interest in both teams. Go Bulls!!!
  7. I think I read some information on their college website where D1 colleges came calling and he said he was happy where he was with the culture and winning and was not ready to move yet.His resume certainly has a lot of positive vibes. So whoever we get it should provide an upgrade in energy and enthusiasm.
  8. Wow!!A lot of opinions about thee good old days. But that was an entirely different era in college basketball. I don’t know how you can compare the two. So much has changed it could take a lengthy opinion piece. Our family experienced all those great and exciting years but with today’s sports landscape it has changed forever. It is the mid majors, lower conferences versus the power five conferences and all the media presence along with millionaires throwing their money around. For many of us older fans we will continue our support for our schools that we have followed all our lives. It is just a pipe dream that colleges like UB can compete against the big time colleges with their millionaire donors.
  9. It is interesting reading reports on possible coaching hires . In particular coaches like BH and Washington who seem to be assistant coaches who could have their pick of head coaching positions. Being at high level D1 jobs why would you take a head coaching position at any school where you would take a lower salary and have several variables like bad facilities and low fan and college attendance with very little donor/alumni interest. Taking a job where in a few years if you don’t turn in into a winning culture you will be starting all over again in finding a high level job. Family consideration should be important also. That is the million dollar question for many of these coaches do you wait a few more years to see if your profile becomes more popular?? A coach like Washington with ties to the MAC and in Michigan and having a positive resume could result in a win for us here at UB.
  10. We are all anxious to hear something but because we don’t have any inside information it is all conjecture and opinions for all of us. We are not sure who Alnutt has talked to so patience is a virtue. Do agree with what has happened at Alabama if BH is hired there will always be questions of how the entire coaching staff handled this tragic situation with a loss of an innocent life and Alabama continues to go on with life as usual. All of the coach speak goes on that Miles and Miller are such good kids and never in trouble. Looking forward to hearing good news about our new coach soon.
  11. Correct me if I am wrong but at the time didn’t Whitesell only have two players from the roster leaving in Foster and Hardnett??? How many openings did they have with only two players leaving??
  12. I do agree with you. As fans and supporters of our teams we give our opinions on many different fronts. Some of course is out of frustration and disappointment on wins and losses. Some of us have followed basketball all our lives, played the game, coached the game and even were basketball officials. Some of our opinions are from our past experiences, from facts given to us by fans on this forum. So many times we hear media opinions and of course coach speak. My opinion on practice is yes it is important on being comfortable and confident on what to do on the court. But so much changes during the course of the game and how players respond determines success and failure. Yes it is important to have good practices but even if the star players have bad practices they are not going to get less playing time and if your 2nd/3rd string players have great practices that will not always translate to significant playing time. When Reggie was our coach we heard until we were sick of hearing about players that they were great in practice and then did not have good games. One last note there was a very good player that was asked about practice and we all know what is answer was to that although I don’t totally agree with him. Still looking forward to next year for a new start.
  13. I agree Powell showed a lot of athletic ability but he was totally one dimensional. He could not hit three’s, he had no pull up jumper. All he could do was drive to the basket and he would drive irregardless if their were players in his way or not. After a few games most if not all of the MAC teams knew what to do against him.Inso many of the games I watched they would leave him out on the perimeter and just pack it in. He really did not play team ball. Again he is very athletic but like many on this team did not have the team first attitude. I really do wonder what the coaches were drawing up in their huddles. I still can’t believe it was give the ball to Powell and let him drive to the basket when it wasn’t there???? Knowing how to play the game takes more than athletic ability. Interesting to see what a new coach and different players will mean to our success or failure.
  14. Would be exciting to see local players come back in front of friends/parents and fans to play one year and experience local basketball flavor.
  15. Also Bowling Green and Ball State in and Niagara. Will be exciting to see how all these teams do against some better competition from other conferences.
  16. It would of been interesting if McNabb stayed here how that would of turned out.Players like McNabb go to a higher conference and get little to no playing time. It all depends who players listen to when making decisions. Good example is DeBerry at UCONN who was a top rated recruit out of a local high school. I have watched several UCONN games and even with all their injuries she barely got any playing time not just this year but ever since she got there. Why a player with that kind of ability would stay at a school and hardly play the game is baffling. Another local player who could of excelled in the MAC. We will never know as she was sold a bill of goods by UCONNand sadly some players with high expectations make it and some don’t.
  17. Agree, we will back with positive outlooks for both teams. Instead of getting on the players how about trying the refs. On one note we were watching some of the higher conferences in women basketball and we noticed some of the male refs that did many of the UB games and thy were as bad in those games as they were at UB. Again no accountability and just an old boys club by the NCAA.
  18. Williamson should be next. Again this is just what the NCAA has started and my opinion is if a player enters the portal he should be gone off the team. The coach is gone so should the players. Hope they find the grass is greener on the other side for their sakes. There is no accountability and responsibility anymore as an example of what has happened at Alabama with Miller and the entire coaching staff.
  19. There are many of us and we are in the vocal minority that have given up on the pro sports scene because of the cost to attend among other factors. We are not breaking tables and shouting from the rooftops and being interviewed but we are out there. We will continue to follow and support our teams and college sports in general in our WNY area. What the pro sports bigwigs and even media do not understand is there are thousands of people that are not making the money to spend how many sporting events and we have to choose and budget our money wisely. No criticism really of how anyone spends their money because many, many years ago our family spent a lot of our money on pro sports. One comment on media is an article awhile age from I believe it was Harrington of the News and he was complaining why fans were not going to Sabres games and he is another person who does not have a clue what how much people are making and what their discretionary income is and the cost of Sabres games cost. So much for the rant again on pro sports and what it costs to attend games.
  20. I do also agree. He is a bit undersized and the little we seen him on the court he was a liability on the defensive side. He never got a chance to play with some of the starters and in any game important minutes. You have to blame the coaches and even when we were out of games or when players like Adams and Powell had bad games he never got a chance to show his ability. What goes on inside a team’s culture and inner workings we will never know and in today’s college mindset players that are highly touted will probably leave if not getting a shot at playing time.
  21. After reading the Adam Cohen resume of coaching my vote is in for him. His coaching stops along the way are impressive and this is an opportunity to make a name for himself. The only minus is if he is successful he will probably be offered a higher profile coaching opportunity. With today’s college basketball culture and crazy atmosphere how can a mid major keep a coach that ultimately is seeking both a higher conference job with a crazy uptick in salary. I don’t know if anyone heard the interview of the Kennesaw coach who won and gets their first trip to March madness. He has been there four years and believes in recruiting local Georgia players and not transfers primarily. He wanted to foster both local and community involvement for players and fans. He said he has like 8/9 Georgia players that were recruited and he got them all to stay. Sadly for the most part that has gone by the wayside for most of college basketball. Not only do the players not stay but the coaches also who really are only chasing the big bucks but the accolade and prestige. More fans like our family have soured and lost some of our passion first with all the pro sports but college sports is going the same way. The question is how much money is enough and in today’s culture I guess there is never enough. Nevertheless it is still an exciting time for both teams to see if they can become one of the top teams in the MAC.
  22. Would just love to see a coach or coaches go against the coach’s bible and go in another direction.
  23. Watching many games I seldom see a team foul when up by three. Not sure what coaches are thinking especially if there are only seconds left.
  24. Agree. All blowouts and the fan attendance is disappointing. I believe the MAC signed an extension with Rocket Mortgage early in the year and can’t remember for how long?? They have to be taking a bath with the attendance and overall terrible games. Is it the cost for fans and overall excitement level or are older fans like us losing our excitement level due to what is happening at both the college and pro level.
  25. The A-10 is a higher and better overall conference with overall better teams and thus more bucks in many ways. Can’t compare what coaches are paid in the A-10 versus the MAC. Between alums and donors along with tv contracts we can’t compete. Such as life in the low rent districts.
