  1. The court ruling would have only applied to the one person at West Virginia who brought the suit. Without the stipulation one game played by someone else could have cost a year of eligibility.
  2. First the NCAA would not be providing anything to the athletes, it would be the individual schools. Do you count the value of the education and fees as income against "minimum wage" payments. That would require taxes to be paid. Where does an 18 year old get the money to pay taxes on the value of their education? Think about a kid at Duke. Where do they get the money to pay taxes on over $60,000.00? As for unionizing, only 14 FBS schools are subject to the National Labor Relations Act. The rest are public employers and only subject to their individual state laws on employer-employee definitions and unionization. Have you also taken into account all of the extra expenses that go along with students being employees? For example New York State employees vest for a pension after five years of employment. Do the athletes qualify for a pension and lifetime health insurance like of New York employees? How much will it cost schools to cover all of their athletes for workers' compensation benefits? This would not be limited to football and basketball teams. It would have to apply to all teams. Furthermore, everything that wants people give these benefits to Division I athletes, the same relationship between schools and athletes apply at Division II and Division III schools as well, as it relates to employer-employee relationship.
  3. Because this is what matters! https://ubbulls.com/news/2023/12/11/athlete-academic-affairs-ub-athletics-posts-highest-graduation-rate-in-program-history.aspx
  4. The number of players who end up nowhere or in lower divisions, where the never wanted to play has been high the last few years. When the payers realize they may never play again at the FBS level they will start to stay and play. IT will take time for the see to the numbers as this has just started. After a few years the experience of time will helpful bringing this to an end.
  5. Not true. Within weeks of UB dropping to D-III in 1977 people were already talking about UB getting back to the D-I level. When the Run to Division I was put into effect the idea was to go what was then D-IAA football. The building of the stadium for the World University Games was the key to getting back to Division I. What was not planned was the move to D-IA, that was decided when President Greiner got the offer to move into the MAC.
  6. With $20,000,000.00 from one donor towards the construction. It should be 100% funded by the state, since it is for academics. Everything takes private money.
  7. https://ubbulls.com/news/2023/12/8/football-ub-athletics-hall-of-fame-class-of-2024-announced.aspx The induction ceremony is March 1, 2024. Welcome all to the Club.
  8. Groce did not stay put. He was at Ohio and went to Illinois after a run to the Sweet 16. He had less success at Illinois and then was out. a He is now at Akron. He may stay now because he likes the less pressure in the MAC than in the Big Ten. I think Coach Jack would agree with that perspective.
  9. That will hurt recruiting. Other schools will say why go to that school, the coach will be gone before you are done.
  10. Last time UB played Michigan thought I had a lock on my bet. I had UB +127.5 and still lost.
  11. That is part of the property tax abatement that Madison Square Garden has had for years. It was what MSG got from the city to not move to New Jersey in the early 1980s. If the Rangers play a home game anywhere else they will lose the abatement. Also not sure that they really have a lease since they are owned by the Garden.
  12. And with the 12 team playoff coming both Michigan and Ohio State games would be almost meaningless, outside of their fan bases. Tghat would have been true of every Power 5 championship game this year except the ACC.
  13. I assume Oakland was an autocorrect for Ojala. If you think she is not capable of bang with others in the MAC, I suggest you look at the career of Kourntey Brown. They have very similar builds. Brown was a two time MAC defensive player of the year and the conference player of the year as well as an honorable mention All-American.
  14. Hopefully they will split the years when we play them at home and on the road. For the last few years we have had to make two trips to that area every other season. I am against a lack of divisions and the Big 10 is the best example. The last two years Michigan and Ohio State would have played each other in back to back weeks. Last it could have knocked both out the playoff. The expanded playoff starting next year will also lessen the importance of the championship games he Power 4 Conferences.
  15. Having been there, Stony Brook was bigger, faster and more athletic than UB. UB was prepared, but over powered.
  16. Source. Saw it on Buffalo News website. https://buffalonews.com/sports/college/football/dj-mangas-buffalo-football-offensive-coordinator-ub-bulls-lsu/article_58f8e01a-9056-11ee-aa2d-1bc6910c158d.html As a possibility, Jimbo Fisher has nothing to do.
  17. Former UB Assistant Coach Joe Reich, brother of Frank, has been promoted to Athletic Director. He is being replaced by another former UB Assistant Coach. Rashaan Jordan. https://wingatebulldogs.com/news/2023/11/14/general-reich-takes-over-as-full-time-athletic-director-rashaan-jordan-named-head-football-coach.aspx
  18. Kotelnicki is headed to Penn State. https://footballscoop.com/news/sources-confirm-james-franklin-penn-state-make-strong-offensive-coordinator-hire
  19. There are some things that I learn about afterwards in generalities, like the basketball coach search was not the chaos that it appeared to some here, that are not public. The "leaks" were from outside of UB. There was only one exception to this when I received a phone call saying that someone was leaving UB. It may have been when Warde Manuel left for UConn, but I am not sure, if that was the one heads up I ever got. I have no knowledge of the hiring process and what goes into the hiring of a coach. I am sure that it is not much different at UB than at any other school. As soon as there is an opening people will reach to the school or have their agents do it for them. The school will reach out to people to see if they have interest. Interviews are eventually set up, an agreement reached in principle and then an announcement. If I was ever on search committee (I have never been asked), people would know I was on it because of a press release that would list my name. That is all that I would ever say. Even if there was not a non-disclosure agreement signed to be on a search committee, nothing would ever be earned from me about how the search went. The only thing I "knew" about before it was made public was the selection of Mark Alnutt as Athletic Director. I was able to learn from sources within UB, outside of Athletics, some information in general terms about the finalists. With a little surfing the night before (more accurately in the early morning hours on the day of of the announcement) I was able to figure out who I believed the new AD would be. What gave me the confidence to post it was that he had just been followed on Twitter by Nate Oats. As a donor, winning is nice. But to me what is more important are athletes leaving UB with a useful degree and being able to do something productive when their athletic career ends. I have said this many times if I have a choice between 13-0 plus whatever happens after winning the MAC Championship and being known as a mill that does not care about athletes and just brings them in as rent-a-body to win or being 0-12 with a high APR and graduating athletes with useful degrees, I will take 0-12 every single year.
  20. Does not say much. You could even say silent.
  21. Have you seen Zach Wilson play? (Did you call for everyone at the Bills to be fired when he beat the Bills in a relief appearance?.) If Wilson an go in the first round, Snyder could make a practice squad.
