At UB, Skogman was in an Accounting program.  Davidson does not have an accounting major.  Perhaps David decided to pursue other studies, but he did have a 3.5 gpa, so I’m guessing he liked the field of study.

I was curious about that too. I guess there must be something he can study that’s he’s interested in. I guess accounting can transfer to some other things.

I somehow wonder if the NCAA even had a clue that the NIL would turn out to be like this. I guess another case of the NCAA not having a clue of what this is all about.

I don't think institutions see this as a problem. The major issue will arise if NIL money eats away at institutional donors and sponsorships. This hasn't happened yet. If anything, I think donations are up..which makes sense,

Syracuse W Basketball, USC Football, and other cases, pay the buyout, fire the loser coach, buy a new coach AND get an instant infusion of better players. Money well spent.

Will constant roster churn impact ticket sales? I would think no. Ultimately you root for whoever is in the laundry.

If he is back to playing the 5 spot mballa, he can handle the sec

Now if he is at the 4 he might look very out of place

Is Josh 6'7.5" in shoes? He's not an SEC 5. He's really a tweener between three positions, size of a wing, game of a 5.

I have zero confidence that he could hold up in meaningful minutes night to night against Tshiebwe, Jaylin Williams, Bediako, Yohan Traore, etc. Maybe as an energy specialist off the bench.

A transfer like Skogman's to Davidson makes more sense for him, getting major minutes with more eyes on him than in the MAC. I'd guess he gets buried on an SEC roster once the intensity of conference play picks up, but happy to be proven wrong if he indeed ends up at Florida.

There’s only a handful of PFs that are stars under 6’7, Zion Williamson and Charles Barkley to name a couple. The SEC is full of huge big men and I can’t see Mballa flourishing there unless he really ups his game dramatically. I wish him the best though

Maybe he will play like he cares there, also he may listen to coaches there and not jack awful 3’s

While he was at UB he averaged 13.6 PPG and 8.2 RPG against high majors.  He will be fine in the SEC. Without a doubt he looked worse this year after coming back from COVID, but if he's back in shape conditioning wise he will be fine.  I've never heard motor concerns about a guy who has recorded 20 rebounds in a game before lol. I do have concerns about his game but physicality and motor are not either of them

Seriously. The dude was on track to utterly dominate the MAC this year but obviously took a step back and looked out of whack. If he gets back on track he can contribute in the SEC or any conference for that matter.

Is this set?  In my mind I assumed that Mballa was done here, either moving on professionally or to another college team.  If you told me the Bulls were losing the motivated Mballa who was working his way up, I would say that's a big loss...but if you tell me we're losing the guy who looked like he didn't give a crap (like against Canisius this past season), I'm not all that bothered.

I still maintain that I'm not all that worried about who we're losing.  I'm much more interested in the potential and growth of who's coming in than the lack of further potential of a group that fizzled out last season.  I will definitely miss Skogman though.

The whole new landscape of yearly free-agency in college sports makes me less interested and less enthusiastic overall.  Why should I care so much about my school's team when the players playing for it clearly don't?

Great write up here summarizing Mballa. Note what it mentions about his offensive game, him buying in and the leash he was given at UB.

'He doesn’t shoot it, only 14-57 (25%) from three in his career, and when you have a non-shooter at power forward it can often condense the floor.'

This occurred with UB some last year.  Also, seemed like he and Skogman clashed rather than complemented one another majority of time.

Whomever wrote this was dead on. Volume scoring, very inefficient. Great rebounder and defender when he was interested in doing so.

Spot on. He and Skogman clashed. And to the point of this article, if Mballa buys into the role of defense and rebounding and rebounding and not being a focal point offensively then he can thrive. But last year he was given too much liberty. And we got what we got…a flawed tweener.

I do think part of it was likely someone telling him about adding to his game for the NBA or pro basketball so we got a guy with freedom trying to branch out and work on his game instead of focusing on his strengths and helping the team win games. I think Graves fell into that a bit too, now he’s an internet beast, so who knows. Wish him well wherever he ends up and hopefully this was a learning year.

A lot of it comes down to coaching as well. Whitesell may have given Mballa too much freedom. Graves seems to be doing well in an nba environment, particularly the Spurs organization. Getting to the nba takes discipline…something that’s been missing at times from our team.

Yeah, this past year did have a bit of a ‘cellphones on the sidelines’ vibe to it.  That reference is several years old, and may not be best.   I’m laughing about it though, so that’s good.

Think graves gets a bit too much hate for his "nba testing the waters"

A lot of what made him look poorly was the offensive system where he was now the number 1 option. The offense we have been running is the opposite of Graves strengths. Lots of iso one on one ball. Graves at his best is when you get him the ball while he is moving/slashing/cutting

As with mballa I think a big issue this past season was never being able to develop chemistry with skogman and the coaches having no answer to help. They always seemed to want to be in the same exact spots all the time
