Akron - Rescheduled 12/2 - 1 PM

Might be a few days early, but given the magnitude of the game for bowl eligibility, and the impending potentially massive snowstorm, figured I'd start the thread.

Do we know if there are any contingency plans if the storm is as bad as may be predicted?  The Snowvember 2014 game vs. Kent State was cancelled, and left UB on the outside-looking-in come bowl time.  Hopefully we don't have that happen again.

Kent State Equipment truck......Where are you?????

Kind of Funny,  Akron now has a chance to prove theyre better at Winter driving and (GPS) than their sworn enemies.

Any way......So your telling me theres still a chance at Detroit?  YES

If we're to understand MAC Tiebreaks correctly, that's assuming the MAC even understands them themselves (which is high doubtful)......three way tie with Ohio, BG, and UB is still possible and if things go correctly in these three games.....puts UB in the MAC Championship.

1 & 2.  UB must beat Akron & Kent State

3.  BG has to beat Ohio next week.  Rourke hurt his knee lastnight and is scheduled for an MRI to access the damage.

If this happens......Ohio, BG, and UB all finish the season with a conference record of 6-2.  Head to head tiebreaker merry-go-round doesnt seperate them (ohio beat UB, BG beat Ohio, UB beat BG)

Next tiebreaker is head to head vs. the fourth place team.  Currently, Kent State.  Heres where things get crazy though.  Kent is 3-3 and Miami is 2-4.  Both play tonight.   EMU @ Kent, Miami @ NIU.  Before I go further.....allow for the games tonight to happen before we proceed further.  It will be easier to explain once these games are done to know where things stand.

Based on the forecast this game is not looking great to be played on Saturday. It could be, but the main snow band is supposed to hit Thurs-Fri, then another round Sat morning through Sat night.  Then Sunday is supposed to be mainly windy and cold but just flurries.

The longest lasting area of Lake effect is predicted to be Buffalo and northern Erie County including Amherst, Clarence, etc.. They could get the most.

Didn’t realize til now that BG beat Toledo last night. As bad as we beat them and the fact they’re -89 in point differential on the season including -31 in MAC games, it doesn’t seem possible that they’re 5-2 in the MAC and primed to win the East if they beat Ohio next week and UB manages to lose 1 more game.

UNIVERSITY OF AKRON DRIVERS:

DO NOT drive into a lake effect snowstorm. Seek alternate routes to UB, such as I-86 and I-390. Show those Kent State Golden Flashes that Akron knows how to navigate roads better than the other northeast Ohio university that has a 84% acceptance rate!

Well...heres where things stand this morning after last nights games.  Both Miami & Kent State are tied at 3-4.  Miami is the fourth place team because of their head to head against Kent.

SO.........UB wins 2 & BG wins against Ohio......it goes to tiebreakers for sure.  IF THE TIEBREAKER RULES ARE TO BE UNDERSTOOD (Again its conviluted and no real good explanation)

Since the head to heads for Ohio vs BG vs  UB dont break the tiebreaker, next would go to record against the 4th place team.

That would be Miami regardless, after yesterdays results.....all three beat Miami.....so it goes down to the 5th place team Kent State.

Only UB (again they have to beat Kent State to finish the season) the other two both lost to Kent, so UB wins the East and Detroit.

BUTTTTTT......

Question for the room.......With this storm coming.......unless the game is played as is scheduled.....anything the MAC tries to do with this game potentially screws over UB yet again.....just like in 2014 and the Kent State Equipment truck fiasco.

If they outright cancel it....its screws up UB's division record.

If they try to postpone....it puts UB on a really short week going into a potentially very important game.

Can they force a forfeit by Akron (game means nothing for them).  How firm can/should UB be with the MAC?  Thoughts?

Last affiliate member the MAC fucked over with dumb rules packed their bags and now the MAC dropped that sport because they don’t have enough members.

MACCG implications are irrelevant if Ohio beats BG, so they get an out of that happens or we lose to Kent. But if Ohio loses they’re 6-2 and we’re 5-2 (pending Kent) and missing our cupcake Akron game but winning the tiebreaker. No matter what you do it isn’t going to be fair…my inclination is they give it to BG because 6-2 is better than 5-2.

If only the MAC would do that.  History tells us that they'll just consider it No game.      What seems to make the most sense is to get their team and their equipment up here today before the driving ban.

Agreed. Maybe they are heading up today. It would be terrible to have a no contest.

Bills game officially moved to Detroit, but radio silence from UB and MAC.

After head to head record, it goes to division record, not vs individual teams.  In order for the three way tie at 6-2 to be a reality, Buffalo would be 4-1 against the MAC East while Ohio and BG would be 3-2, giving the three way tie to the Bulls.

I’m curious if there’s an explanation for it somewhere?

Here’s the only “official” thing that readily available.

2. Record of tied teams within the division [versus rank order, highest to lowest, of division teams]

The part in the brackets is what confuses it and gives us pause against just saying Division Record.

The other part of it is whether they include the MAC West Crossover games in that “division record”.  They used to not matter, but then they changed it.  I personally don’t read it that way, but you never know how to MAC intends it.

Barely any snow up here in Amherst. Roads are open and clear. Play ball!

The conference needs to come down hard on Akron if they can’t make it here. There was enough prior warning to leave a day or two early and avoid any possible travel issues. Just because their team has thrown in the towel for the rest of the year doesn’t mean they get to decide that for us.

UAkron is in pretty a deep financial hole with declining enrollment and a struggle to stay relevant amongst its peer community colleges. If the MAC were to start threatening their revenue distribution, that could lead to results.

Per athletics they will try to play Sunday.  This would not be the first time that a game was moved to a Sunday in the regular season.  In 2006 hte Miami game was moved to Sunday, because of snow.

I remember that game, that was the October Storm weekend.  We somehow never lost power on campus.
