    • Saw that posting youtube videos will automatically have it load into the discussion.  Kinda big for desktop, but on the flipside, it's nicely sized for mobile.
    • When you link to images, it also automatically loads the images into your post.  That's nice too.
    • If you didn't notice, the site also allows you to upload attachments to your post.
    • The mobile view is much nicer.  It's much easier to respond on your mobile devices now.
  1. We all know how good Tyree Jackson is.  He was a Quinn recruit who stuck it out even though the coach who recruited him got fired.  Great job by Coach Quinn in recruiting him and even better job by the current coaching staff in coaching him up.

Check out this pic when he was in HS.  He's put in some serious work to reshape his body.  He was a little pudgy in HS, but he's a chiseled man now.

Hard work pays off.  Looking forward to seeing him this weekend.

  2. Watched the replay on ESPN.  Here are some thoughts.

    The Good

    • Tyree Jackson looks good.  Really good.  The guy can make all the throws.  He threw for 6 TDs on 17 completions.  That's insane.  33% of his completions went for 6.  I don't know about NCAA records, but that rate must be up there somewhere.
    • Receivers look good.  We have weapons.  We line up 4 receivers and all four guys can make plays.  KJ and Rushing look like they will make tons of plays this year.  We all know about Anthony Johnson, but I think his numbers might be down this year not because of his talent, but just because we have other guys that can make plays this year.  Hopefully, that doesn't hurt his draft stock.
    • We have some big play potential.  At any point, we can take it to the house.  At the end of the day, it's all about scoring points and scoring points with big plays is something this team has the potential to do.
    • Defense looks fast.  The secondary is fast and it showed.  They will be the strength of the defense.  They will produce some coverage sacks.
    • Team just looks much more experienced and confident overall.  This team has all the parts for a very successful season.

    The Bad

    • Run game needs improvement.  We only gained a total of 154 yards on 4.1 yards/carry.  That seems ok, but that's not going to get it done against higher level competition.  The line needs to create holes, this could be a real problem going forward.
    • Run defense needs improvement.  They were 1 yard short of gaining 200 yards.  We were outgained on the ground as a team.  That team almost had two 100 yard rushers in the game.  That could spell trouble going forward.
    • The first 3 TDs were a result of going for it on 4th down.  We really should not be in a 3 and out situation too many times against a team like Delaware State.  So even though, we were up 20-0 in the 1st quarter, I just did not see a well oiled offense.  We need to improve our 3 down efficiency.
    • Mitcheson still can't convert XPs regularly.  Getting an XP blocked is all on the kicker.  There is no reason why you should kick an XP that low.  Maybe a long field goal, I can understand, but an XP should not get blocked.  Kick it high, you're not kicking it for distance.

Overall a great start to the season.  Also good to see Ledarius Mack get some action.  Hopefully that brings Khalil back to UB and inspires him to give.

The four games that do not have TV listings is because of TV.  The Saturday football games for the most part are on 12 day windows, except for the first three weeks of the year.  Those are announced earlier.  That means 12 days before a game (two Mondays) both a time and television outlet are announced.  Rutgers will have the kickoff and television availability announced the Monday after the Temple game.  The following Monday we will find out about the Army game.

As for ESPN+ it is $4.99 a month with a one week free preview.  You could possibly get multiple free previews by using different names, email address and credit cards and cancelling before you have to pay.  I have access to six emails between personal, work and others that I control.  You could use a spouse's email and credit card and their emails as well.  I have no idea how many devices could be logged into one account simultaneously.

Brooklyn, you are high roller man.  Haha, what are you doing putting in 6 different emails.

    • Haha 1

Some highlights from the 2 deep

    • Emmanuel Reed starts over Hawkins at RB.  Good decision, although you don't lose your job because of injury, Reed has been the better back when he plays.  Reed hits the hole hard and just goes.  I am not giving up on Hawkins just yet, but I hope the backup role serves him well this year.  Hopefully he can break out.
    • Surprising true freshman James Patterson starts at LB.  Says he had 180 tackles as a senior which is insane.  Before Khalil Hodge broke all types of records in tackles, there was Justin Winters.  Well I read that Winters coached Patterson in HS, so I hope Patterson can produce like his former coach.  Winters was a small LB who overachieved.  Patterson is much bigger.
    • We're starting with a 3 WR set.  We all know about Johnson.  I really like KH Osborn on the other side.  I expect him to have a big season with all the attention that will be paid on AJ.  George Rushing or Nunn are switching off.  Looking forward to seeing what Rushing can do.  The Wisconsin transfer is bouncing back from injury, but he's had enough time to be full strength.
    • We have 2 newcomers in the OL.  Paul Nosworthy and Kayode Awosika.
    • We have really good experience in the secondary.  Lewis and Slack should be good.  They weren't good as underclassmen, but I'm glad we went through the growing pains with them.  Defense looks really good with a lot of upperclassmen across the board.
    • Adam Mitcheson is in his last year at UB.  He's been an average kicker.  Hope he can make some long kicks and consistently make his XP.
    • KJ goes back there as the return man.  I'm predicting he takes at least a couple back this year.  When was the last time we had a dynamic return game?  I can only think back to Naaman's days.  Those were some exciting times every time we got the ball back.
  5. I just noticed this yesterday on the ESPN app yesterday trying to watch the US Open, but it looks like ESPN has a new channel called ESPN+ where you have to subscribe for $5/month.  Has this always been the case and I just didn't notice?

Looks like we have 2 games on ESPN+, EMU and Toledo.  They are spaced out over 30 days so we would have to pay $5.  I think ESPN gives you a 30 day free trial.

There are 4 games that don't have TV listings.  These are Rutgers, Army, Central Mich and Akron.  Wonder how we will watch those games.

  6. UB Football faces something new in 2018 - Expectations
    - Sounds like the team is hungry and working hard.

Team by Team Breakdown of UB opponents
    - Not much detail on each opponent, but something nonetheless.

  7. Time for us to all predict the season.  I'm going with 10-2.

Should be wins - 7 wins
Delaware State, EMU, Army, CMU, Akron, Kent, BGSU (7)

Delaware State should be the easiest.  EMU at home should also be another relatively easy win.  On paper, the Army game looks tough, but this is a team we should beat.  Army will shorten the game by not throwing the ball, but hopefully we learned something from last year's loss. Akron as a homecoming game should be another win.  Kent and BGSU, we're way better than these guys.

Toss up games - 2 wins
Ohio and Miami games should be very close.  These two teams are fighting with UB for the MAC East.  I think we win both.

    Slight underdog - 3 games
Temple game on 9/8 will be the tough game all year.  I am hopeful for a win, but odds are not in our favor.  It'll be tough to win that game.  I give us a better chance against Rutgers.  Game against Toledo will be another tough game.  If we can win 1 of these 3 games, I'll be satisfied.:classic_mellow:  If we can win 2, I'll be very happy. 😀 If we can win 3, we're going to be in discussion for a BCS bowl.  Perfect season? :classic_ohmy:

  8. Only 8 days to go for the season opener.  The game will be at UB Stadium and will stream on ESPN3.

Don't know much about the Hornets, but looks like they really struggled last year.  They finished the year at 2-9.  One of the ugly losses was a 77-6 loss at the end of the year to Florida State.  Strange to see last game of the year against Florida State.

I expect us to fully dominate this game.  Hopefully Tyree and Anthony Johnson can get their numbers and rest in the 2nd half.  I'm going with 55 - 10

Predictions for a crowd?  I would think 18,000.
