My main idea for starting this whole topic was to talk about renovating Alumni Arena. Not to build an entirely new arena, but instead to make it a bowl format, something similar to Mississippi State or Bradley University (I know, I’m surprised they have that nice of an arena too).

They could make it a bowl with the lowest 100 level being retractable to allow for the necessary space for events such as graduation, additionally, the seating opposite from the side that goes up to the press box is currently able to be expanded back to have a similar seating style to the other side. The wall would be moved back for this, it would obviously cost a lot of money, and keeping our coaching staff here is the priority, but it would be a good first step towards making it into a feasible arena as the program (hopefully) becomes a p5 program.

Additionally, since I’m being optimistic and hopeful, it would be amazing if a dedicated basketball practice facility could be built where the current police headquarters is. It would go a long way to make an impact on the prospects that we are just barely missing out on. If this practice facility could have dorms for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams (similar to Kansas) as well as player lounges and other things that are present at P5 schools, that would be huge. The practice facility could be built close enough to the newly expanded/ soon to be expanded Alumni Arena to have a bridge/walkway connecting it to the arena to make it easy and quick for players to get back to their housing after games as well as easier and less of a burden for them to make it in to the courts if they decide they want to work on their shot at 3am on a snowy day.

The police headquarters could be built in between the bookstore and Ellicott in that large open grass space, which would make more sense as that would make them centrally located on campus.

This would by no means be a quick process, but if the program continues in the direction they’re going and wants to continue it’s current growth, these changes would become almost necessary.

    Thoughts?

I like it! You have clearly thought about all of this already. If the seats are able to be retractable in the dome shape. I think it is a great idea.

The only change I have is where the police station would go. The grassy area between Greiner and Bookstore they are looking to build a new wellness center. I do agree that the police station should be centrally located though

  2. As of today, we (1. Buffalo) would play the winner of 8. Eastern Michigan and 9. Northern Illinois for the Thursday Quarter Final at Noon. Wouldn't mind playing NIU again.

Friday we would play the winner of 4. Central Michigan and 5. Kent State/12. Western Michigan

The other side of the bracket has all the Ohio teams beating up each other. I like seeing that.

But nothing to indicate that Harris' shooting is affecting the other aspects of his game, as we get more shots up when he's on the court and score more points when he's there...(argument can be made that his poor shooting is masked by our rebounding and a replacement player would be better for us, but that should show up over the course of a full season of games in the plus minus numbers, and they haven't)

Thank you for your research into this. It completely proves me wrong in my off the cuff observation.

He does do a lot for us. Defending, rebounding, controlling the pace on the offensive end

I agree but disagree with the point on defending. Not sure how the stat gurus look at it. Harris was burned a couple times last night on defense. He was lazy on switching ball screens and can't catch players when they drive. It just looks like a lack of effort. I was more conformable with Perkins guarding the guard on ball screens than Harris. Perkins defense has been incredible.

I refuse to believe this is the way Harris will finish his career here. I have a feeling about the MAC tournament. I think he finds his rhythm then. It is clearly all in his head.

Crowd - that's what I'm talking about!  The Bulls got the lead after being down 5 in the second half and the place came alive, people got loud on defense every trip after that.  That's more like it.

Now let's try to get  the crowd going for the entire game rather than 10 minutes left in the game! My girlfriend screamed at a free throw doing a high pitched noise. (It was loud! But the player missed both free throws). The people in our seasons area told her not to do it again. Not sure what the culture has been for the past 20 years. That time is dead. It is time we get loud and support this team. On March 8, we are going all out. Who knows if season ticket holders will try to get us kicked out.

This game, with robust beer sales to a record crowd, really emphasized the gross inadequacy of the restrooms. Lol.

Yes! I have noticed this too. It was a none issue in the past but the past couple games I am finding that I plan my restroom breaks (1H: 4min media or 2H: 16min media).

Overall, the atmosphere is absolutely awesome. I think everything taking place will encourage others to stay and I think more people will get on board with chants/etc.

What I think they should do: a system to donate tickets for season ticket holders. If I am not able to go to a game, a way to notify UB so that those that want to go can check to see if season ticket holders have tickets to give away. For me, it is easy to give away. I have lots of friends I keep in touch of that I can pass off. For older season ticket holders (which is predominately 101-105), they might not know as many people to go. I could be completely wrong.

Your not the guy way in the back on your cell phone are you???? Just joking!!  Do agree when we were first starting to take the conference by storm maybe there was more chanting and total jubilation. But now we are getting so many more fans that have not been here for years that the dynamic is a little different. Still a great time and looking around the packed arena is a sight to behold. Go Bulls!!!!!

Caught me! Having a boost in fans is certainly a problem that I wouldn't mind having in the arena!

However, now they are, and the students aren't out

I disagree with that statement. Public and Students are out. It is that people aren't getting into the game. I agree that culture is tough to shift from Public (agreed with Sabres games). Sorry to steer this into a different direction.

Back to Kent, is there any word that Avery is playing tonight?

He wants the dedicated practice facility

    Where did you hear that?

I think that a plan to get to the AAC would be very attractive to keep Oats in the fold as we move forward.

That will take too long and Oats has gone on record saying he wants to build a new Gonzaga and Butler. Though I love the idea of being in the AAC and ideally wish we were there. It will take several years of sustained success to get there.

They'll come around eventually. The student section lost it's fire too.

Unfortunately things don't look/feel like this anymore:

    (2015)

Fun times. I was in this pic. To be fair, not every game was like this.

Maybe they should try to start chants before the game starts. I remember we were doing a chant on every possession in the past. Also, feed off what the players are throwing at you. Music should stop during warm ups when they are jumping around getting hype before McCrae slams down a dunk. They have done that the past 2 or 3 home games.

  10. For those that were there last year, I think it is understandable why they want to move it. In the rare occurrence that Toledo and Buffalo make it to the finals. It is a mad house. Last year I went to HB then to Flannery's because I couldn't get the drink at the bar.

HB is the Toledo bar. They just haven't been good enough to make it to Semis or Finals so we didn't have an issue. I like the idea of Southern Tier being the new location especially since it is brand new and I heard it is more spacious than HB

What will our tradition be as Buffalo continues to recognize the success of these programs?

Great question. "UB Bulls Fans, on your feet?" I am not sure if that is it. The flashlights on phones during intro video/introductions is a nice new tradition. I think it has to be something students buy into and it spills to the public (Example: Cowbell)

You mention crowd noise, or lack thereof.  The students did a great job.  They're fun to watch.  Listening to a couple of the cheerleaders last night.  They're frustrated that, when they run around with the signs that say "get loud" or "Make some noise", very few people do anything.  These Student - Athletes (players and cheerleaders alike) are going all out on the court.  The fans need to get on board.  Show some appreciation and vocal support for what they're giving us.

I noticed that too. I also notice that as the game starts, people are more timid. As the game progresses, people become more vocal.

And can they stop telling people to "Get on your Feet" for the tip off. I have seen no one do this at Alumni.
