She's still on the roster page on the UB Athletics Website. What a weird season. People just disappear and no announcements? What happened to Salmons? You lose and assistant and no comment? Weird.

So, MIA players and now coaches. Playing with only 6 players most of the year. A 2023 recruiting class of 7 guards.  Not a big fan of Criag from the videos I've watched.

Wheeler (according to her UB Bio) was recruiting coordinator at USC Upstate. Was she in charge of recruiting at UB also?

I put the blame on Berke for all these crazy things.

Sure can't expect 70% from the field and 63% from 3-points again this game. They also had good defense last game. I bet they lose by 15 and get put out of their misery of thinking of going to Cleveland.

Call me crazy, but I'll be there.

UB women have done this same thing during intros. I'm not as close to the bench during men's games but I wouldn't be surprised if they did it too.

I have seen this done many times over the years (mostly UB Men). Nothing unusual.

However, in the Alabama case, not appropriate.

open the web browser and navigate to this URL clearpass-portal1.cit.buffalo.edu (make a browser shortcut for that so you won't have to type it in), which then lets me log in with my e-mail ID and password.

This worked for me. If you're not authorized, it's supposed to take you to this page automatically but it doesn't.  Some glitch in their configuration.

Only problem now is I "create" an account and it let's me in but doesn't seem to "remember" that username/password the next time I'm there. So, i just go through the "create an account" part again. Minor problem now.

Thanks for teaching me the "trick".

  4. Rend Lake vs Wabash Valley on December 7th. Craig is #52 in red.

She's in the game at the following spots in the video:

    12:00-16:26
    24:39-32:30
    50:34-56:40
    1:11:56-1:23:08
    1:29:06-1:31:30
    1:47:42-1:52:08

    19 minutes 2-4 FG, 3-8 FT, 4 rebounds, 1 Block, 7 points.

Looks like she'll only be as good as the guards getting her the ball in the post.  Rarely moves out of the paint.  She needs to be better at Free Throws. Clearly not going to be much help on offense on a fast break.

And here is one of her 3s:

When you're up by 60 near the end of the game, what the heck. Wouldn't expect her to be shooting 3s in a close game.

Not sure about Nwora, just kept hearing "personal reasons". Maybe it was an effort to preserve another year of eligibility while learning the system like a redshirt.

I don't see Nwora even on the bench so I've written her off the team. Am I missing something? Nice to see (what I presume to be) Johnson and Watson still at the games.

To put things in perspective, 6 of their 11 MAC losses have been by a combined total of 17 pts (2 by 1 pt, 2 by 3 pts, 1 by 4 and 1 by 5).

Glass half full or half empty. Several of these games they were leading going into the 4 quarter.  They were outscored in the 4 quarter in 6 of these 10 games. Those games that aren't close are blowouts. Average loss in these 10 games is 10 points with three losses 18 points or more.

Considering most of this team is graduating, it would be hard to correlate any (even small) positives in this year's performance with next year's expectations.

As I've said before, the losses started piling up once the bench got shorter.

Sorry, I'm not on the Coach Burke bandwagon until she can get this team to win.

  7. First, I didn't watch or listen to the game. I'm still recovering from watching them in-person.

So, I was wondering why UB had 46 points in the paint on January 14th vs EMU and only 8 points in the paint today.

Last game, here are the stats of made vs attempts for points in the paint:

    Quote
      made atts
    STONE,RE'SHAWNA 4 7
    WINFIELD,ZAKIYAH 8 14
    MASHAIRE,EMERITA 0 2
    OGDEN,HATTIE 0 0
    YOUNG,JAZMINE 3 6
    SALMONS,KAYLA 3 3
    PERKINS,LATRICE 3 3
    BARON,BRIYANNA 0 1

Winfield was 8 of 14, Stone 4 of 7. The team was 21 of 36 in the paint overall.

By my count, UB was 21 of 36 in the paint, 1 of 3 outside the paint/inside the arc and 5 of 14 outside the arc.

    Yesterday, the stats are:

    Quote
      made atts
    STONE,RE'SHAWNA 1 2
    WINFIELD,ZAKIYAH 3 11
    MASHAIRE,EMERITA 0 1
    OGDEN,HATTIE 0 1
    YOUNG,JAZMINE 0 1

Winfield was only 3 of 11 in the paint and the others barely made it into the paint. The team shot 4 of 16 in the paint overall.

So for yesterdays game, UB was 4 of 16 in the paint, 1 of 2 outside the paint/inside the arc and 13 of 33 outside the arc.

So, in January, it was an inside game. Today, it was "flinging" up threes.

    Was EMU playing zone?

At halftime, ESU had 22 points in the paint, UB had 0.

Why stop at Halftime: 48 to 8 at the end of the game.  And only 3 fast break points (3-pointer?) so those "fast guards" aren't working either.

Having a short bench doesn't help. These girls are getting tired (and frustrated). Nothing from Winfield (3-14) and Young (2-9) today.  They need a tighter defense but that takes energy. Giving up 46% for the field isn't good. I guess that extra day in Ypsilanti didn't give them any rest.  Nice that they had a good 4th quarter but wasn't enough.

  9. And one of the ESPN announcers last night said that there was a lot of misinformation going around and people should go to a YouTube video of the Alabama AD for all the facts.

They also seem to give a very brief (30 second at most) summary with a supposed timeline graphic of what happened before moving on.  I only watched the second half so maybe I missed something.

    How sad!!

That was awful. I think one was a ref injury but still terrible.

It was nearly 5 minutes of game play before UB called a timeout (at 12:30). At that point, they already blew through the under 16 timeout and was close to the under 12 timeout.

So, it was a UB timeout, followed by the under 16 timeout and then the under 12 timeout.

So, I don't think the refs had an injury. But they might have been doing some knitting during the timeout like the rest of us.

As much as I hate the music that the DJs play, I've realized over the last few games that some of the older songs they play are because that's what the dance team has choreograped their routine to.

Not sure this is exactly true.

Maybe one song a game is clearly selected by the Dazzlers.  It's when they are alone on the court and one of the dancers raises her arm to single to start of the music. The rest of the dances they pick based on the tempo of the songs being played.

Yes, I've been to way too many games and watched them way too much of the dancers.

Next year, my goal is to remember which hat the ball is under from just watching the first few seconds.

Yes, I like to entertain myself during breaks.

Speaking of breaks, anybody notice the 3 timeouts in the early second half within 35 seconds of game play. That sure slowed the game down.

  12. I was expecting wings with the pizza as well but with the price of wings around 2 dollar a wing, I can understand why it wasn't offered. I remember the days of 10 cent wings (showing my age).

Since it is a "ticket" issue, you could try ub-bullstickets@buffalo.edu.  Bob Feidt (Assistant Ticket Operations Manager) has always been helpful to me. Might not be his area but he can probably refer the issue to somebody.

Thanks, I'll give the WIFI another try today with your "trick".

It’s tough to work but you have to log into the wifi twice for it to activate and then you have to constantly use it or you need to log in twice again.

I'm no longer able to get to the UB Wifi Login screen. I pull up a browser, and try to navigate to buffalo.edu but it doesn't pull up the login page and tells me it's an unsecure (or maybe unauthorized website). Reset the phone and the WIFI connection several times and no success.

At this point, it's only a few weeks left in the season. But, I like pulling up the detailed stats on my phone when I'm there.

Join us for a desert bar prior to Senior Night on Friday, March 3rd. Your RSVP will enable you and up to THREE people on your season ticket account to attend the Season Ticket Holder event prior to the Bulls game vs. Miami (OH) inside Alumni Arena.

And now it's a Desert Bar on senior night. Do we each get a grape?

  15. I voted for Ohio. Used to be the case. Not sure if it still is.

I remember many years ago now, in Cleveland, vs Ohio, they had the Marathon pricing game during a Media time out. The contestant was an Ohio fan.  When it came to the guy picking "higher" or "lower" on the price of the product, they gave him the microphone and then he said "UB Sucks" before giving his answer. He did this all three times.   Good reason to have him just point at the "higher" or "lower" signs rather than giving him a microphone.

I still hate the "O-H-I-O" chant in Cleveland.

On the same subject, anybody else notice they started (haven't done it in several months now) the Price Right higher/lower game at the UB games. In Cleveland, the answer was always LOWER to promote the lower prices at Marathon. In UB's version, the answer was either lower OR higher. Not a way to promote lower prices at a place.

Maybe the athletics department ordered more pizza but security turned the delivery guy away for trying to bring in outside food.

A lot of words to end up with this joke/comment.

I've never seen signs preventing people from bringing in their own food. For example, last night I saw somebody passing around a container of probably 20-30 home made cookies. It could just take one "out-of-control" usher to mess up an evening.

In terms of 3 vs 4 guests, it appears they changed the reference point. 4 guests for them, then 3 guests for me.  A little confusing but I figured it out.

I've had complaints about the WIFI for the past several months. Was thinking of sending an email to the ticket office to complain but I figured it just wasn't important enough and was hoping it would get fixed on its own.  I'm sure nobody on the staff realizes it isn't working.

  17. I'd agree. It was a joke.

Technically, I think it was an early renewal season ticket appreciation meal. Not "early" for 2023 but for 2022. Not sure why it was at the end of the season.

Yes, there was something going on in each corner of the arena probably run by different organizations. It's up to the organization running it to order enough food.

Was surprised they invited up to 4 people. I got there at 5pm and was waiting for my friend to arrive but saw the food going fast so I got in line. Not great pizza (sauce was too sweet). And just the 2 slices and water. I went back just before tip-off to get the water (that was still there).

Since you had to RSVP and they were only giving out 2 slices, then it should have been a deterministic number of slices they needed to order.

I usually don't like waiting in line for "free food".  Just not worth it (i.e. quantity and the wait).

I was only able to catch about the last 4:00 of the game yesterday.  From what I saw down the stretch, this could not be less true.  They wiped out a late lead to go up by one and then had two shots at the buzzer to hit a game winner.  teams that have quit would have packed it in when they down 7 with about 4:00 left.  They did not pack anything in.

Nice that we were competitive against the second worst team in the MAC.

I’m not trying to pick an argument with anyone. I’m venting…but are we watching UB basketball to be entertained? Or to cheer on the team as they win? Bc isn’t winning entertaining? Losing to me isn’t entertaining. For example, the Super Bowl tomorrow, I don’t have a dog in the fight therefore I want to be entertained. But if I were a fan I’d want to win. Whether that’s pretty or ugly I’d want to win. Winning is entertaining regardless of how.

I guess this is what most feel when people say “Reggie ball” is back. We are settling for being entertained. That’s complacent to me. “Oh we played hard.” We have fallen to the middle of the MAC pack. But hey, it’s entertaining.

We all would like the team to be winning AND entertaining.  You can't win every game. The men might not be winning as much as we would like but look at the women's. Not winning AND not entertaining.  Not at all fun to watch.

I don't tend to go after the refs, because when they're bad they're usually bad both ways.  But I couldn't help but notice, Kent had 7 fouls in the second half with over 12 minutes to go.  And didn't get called for their 8th foul until there was under a minute left.  You mean to tell me that this game, which was pretty physical, and even just in a regular basketball flow, they were worth 7 fouls in under 8 minutes and those guys didn't see a single foul in TWELVE minutes after that???  Bull crap.

I've given up trying to understand the refs. Noticed the 7 fouls 8 minutes into the second half for Kent. First, was shocked they had 7 already. Then, at the end of the game, shocked they STILL had 7.

Just seemed like a lot of contact at the rim that wasn't getting called.

How does a physical team get the reputation of not getting calls against them where as otherwise simple touch fouls are called?

I notice sometimes, refs wait to see if a basket is made before actually making a call. If the ball bounces on the rim a few times and goes out, they've lost their opportunity to call a foul.

In terms of the game, I really liked the team energy and the movement they had. In the second half, UB just couldn't get past the Kent's defense (both in the paint and outside the 3 point arc). Very entertaining.

This year’s problem: no post players.
Next year’s solution: recruit more guards?

And I presume these 4 will be returning:

    Caelan Ellis G Freshman
    Emerita Mashaire G/F Sophomore
    Hattie Ogden G/F Freshman
    Chellia Watson G Redshirt Junior

I just can't see Johnson returning for her 6th year (assuming she could).

That would make a lot of Guards and no true Forwards. I think that leaves 3 scholarships still open.

  22. I was listening on the radio (painful) and the announcer said that in his pregame conversation with BB (which I didn't hear), she said that she has already written off this year and touting the recruits for next year.

Give me something to look forward too. Who are these recruits and why would they still commit to UB after this season we've had?

  23. 52 minutes ago, dj_paige said:

The reason there were only 11 fouls on UB against BG and only 14 the other day against NIU was that head coach Becky Burke has told her team to be less aggressive on defense, because we can't afford to have players foul out. Similarly, we are not aggressive on the boards, again because we don't want players fouling out. In both games, the refs called the game appropriately, there were simply not a lot of fouls to call.

I wonder how you know this.  And if true, so very sad.

Here are some foul stats for UB in the last 7 games.

10 players 18 total fouls, 2 players with 3 fouls
8 players 14 total fouls, Perkins fouled out, one other with 3 fouls.
7 players 17 total fouls, Perkins fouled out, 3 others with 3 fouls
7 players 11 total fouls, 3 players with 3 fouls
8 players 14 total fouls, 3 players with 3 fouls.
6 Players 10 total fouls, 1 player with 3 fouls.
6 Players 14 total fouls, 4 players with 3 fouls.

By these numbers, it doesn't appear UB has been in foul trouble except for Perkins. They can throttle back their aggression once they get closer to foul trouble. They probably are less aggressive to save energy.

Also, if UB needs a break/rest, why are they going into the locker room at the end of the game with unused timeouts?
