  1. What it means is recruiting for mid majors has changed My thinking is you recruit up tell these kids they can start as a freshman.  If there are as good as they think they can transfer and get the big bucks, then. The mid major coach who has the right message can recruit higher rated talent and will succeed.  It will be like the one and done high majors just with a different carrot for these kids.  We are not going to see 4-year kids playing for mid majors.

Who are we to trust? Random AAU coaches and former players who quit on their team midseason sending ominous messages on twitter? Or perhaps we should look to the person who joined ubfan 36 hours ago and has 8 total posts?

This is a Buffalo fan message board. Absolutely nothing has come out yet in the details that indicates our coach did anything wrong (despite the obvious strange circumstances) so why wouldn't we stand by her at this point and suggest someone else must've done something wrong? It's all hearsay at this point.

Do not want to throw anyone under the bus, I think we need more information, but I believe in Occam's razor, when you hear hoofbeats do not think zebras.

  3. We have a coach. That was a sh!tshow.  I will say I am an optimist overall and sometime the best trades in sports are the ones you don't make.  Time will tell on paper this looks very good. I do want to go on record that.

    1. This is the best coach we have ever had.

    2. I know this coach would never work out and it was a joke from the beginning.

    3. He was just what the Buffalo community needed to rally around our team.

    4. He never became part of the environment around UB and distanced the team from its fans.

In 4 years when he's gone due to a better job or fired for not doing well, I can tell everyone I told you so.

This ides was floated to do exactly the with FLJ, last year so we would not lose her. There might be to much risk for the upside. Right coach. The AD is a genius by completely changing the coaching landscape of a completely entrenched boys club. Or the AD is a complete moron worst decision made by a college AD ever.

As someone with no "connections", just sitting back on the sidelines letting this play out, I have to say that the leaks here make UB look pretty amateurish.  I understand that contract negotiations are what they are, but as someone (I can't recall who) said just earlier today on here, the reason you pay for these executive search firms is so that you don't get the PR headache that this has turned into.

Somewhere along the line here, someone appears to have made a gross miscalculation of the coaches UB should be targeting, as well as the financial commitment required.  I don't know if it's AD Alnutt, some deputy AD, the search firm, SUNY budget constraints, whatever - we'll never know.  But the way this has played out, with repeated leaks to the press about botched job offers, is a pretty bad look for the university's athletics administration, full stop.  UB's limitations are what they are, but I can't recall ever feeling an "amateur hour" vibe from Warde Manuel, Danny White,  or Allen Greene administrations.

So the AD looks like an idiot already.  If you are going down be bold, give yourself a chance of changing the coaching landscape completely.  Your ass is on the line now and you might be fired over this mess anyway.  There has to be a woman's coach that we can hire during Woman's history month that would work.  Let have UB ahead of a curve in sports for once.

This is laughable. And goes back to the point @enrique14150made…no one wants to grind and get their hands dirty. I have no doubts we are promising the world while lacking the means to attain it, but at some point a would be coach has to lace up and take on the challenge.

Maybe it is time to think out of the box UB should look into a Woman's basketball coach that is young ambitious and self assured. It would get us into the national media could increase our ability to attract NIL.  If she wins she is on every ESPN show and moves up in no time.  Plus Woman only get paid 86 cents to a mans dollar

And now I have figured out how to block someone here at UBFan. So UB Horns Up is now blocked, and I will never see his posts again. 👦 If you'd like to do this yourself, go to the top of the screen, click on your user name, a drop-down menu appears and you can then select Ignored Users. From there, select any user you wish to ignore.

    High fives gratefully accepted!

I blocked him as a Christmas gift to myself.  Now if we can get everyone else to block him so I do not read his stupidity when other people quote him to mock him.

  7. I do not know if this is the right place for this but I was thinking about what would be best for our sports teams.  A lot has been said about UB sports and what conference we should be in.  I propose that we are better off being in a conference that we are competing for a championship in than being a doormat in a larger conference.  it is better to be a big fish in a little pond, than a little fish in a big pond.  I would rather be UB in the MAC than than Vandebilt in the SEC.  It is fun playing games that mean something than being everyone's homecoming game.  UB does not and most likely will not have the funds to compete with Ohio State, Penn State et al.  Let's win as much as we can and have at least a chance to go to the big dance.  I know we are in a one bid league but if we make it to Clevland we can make the dance. We make a Bowl game hopefully have a chance to win the MAC championship in basketball.

    LET's go Bulls

  9. Just finished watching the game.  This work thing gets in the way of my viewing pleasure.  Mo is learning He went for three instead of going for the TD He made that mistake during the season.  2 scores up as time was running out was enough to win.  He might just learn to be a very good coach He can recruit. He can game plan, Now if he can make good game day decisions and make better in game adjustments, just might make a great coach

I'm not 100% sure, but I think all bowl money for the MAC teams (and any conference) goes into a pot and then get dispersed. Not sure if it's all equal portion or teams that participated or won got more. I'm also not sure about if UB and GaSo get the same payout. I did find this article. Since the MAC is a "Group of Five" conference, it looks like the MAC gets a share of $95 million. The Camellia Bowl specifically is $300k (not sure if that is total or for each and how it is split). Seems like there is a lot of money out there, so hopefully we get a nice cut since we participated and won.

If I remember from years past half the money paid out goes to the school (to compensate for costs ie travel)  The other half goes to the MAC and is split equal to every school in the conference

Down by 17 you kinda have too. Plus if you go inside you will get an offensive foul

I except that. I do think with this team we can get back into a game better by going to the hoop.  I still think this team is fun to watch

There is a block user button in your account where you can “ignore” user posts.  I know it may be easy to just “read past” a post,  but we are human.  If you never see it, you never have to engage.

Life is too short.  I enjoy learning from this board and taking perspectives (whether or not supported with a lot of data) that differ from my own and consider them.  But broken records?  Axes to grind?   Singular messages?  Not interested.

I bleed blue and I won’t allow individual posters (or anyone, really) to detract from that.  UB is my only college team.  I wear all of my gear with pride, I follow them all the time and, even if I bailed on a certain coach for MBB, I will always want the team to win (even down 30 points in Atlanta yesterday).

I will make sure I am front and center watching the game versus Georgia So.

    Go Bulls.

PS:  they have some of that “wooly bully” gear at the bookstore on line for anyone that wanted, but missed out.  My dad is supposed to send me a picture of himself wearing that shirt watching the Bills today.   Close enough.

Thanks for the advice I will take it.  Now I have Xmas gifts for the family Go Bulls

This bowl game should be like professional wrestling loser leaves town type of thing. If Maurice Linquist loses to QB Kyle Vantrease he should admit he failed as a coach and let his ego get in the way of championships. And say Kyle Vantrease was smarter than my whole staff if UB losses. I don’t want to hear it win or resign that would be my choice of words if I was UB AD. I know UB can’t but I wish UB could stop the checks that whole Maurice Linquist coaching staff are useless so is Jim Whitesell and his coaching staff who embarrassed themselves today in Atlanta against Tulane. I watched a real coach Nate Oats today it is amateur hour with UB athletics today just a bunch of bums in my opinion. UB Horns Up! Go Bulls! Let’s Go Buffalo

It seems you are getting no joy from watching UB sports Root for Alabama football they lose once or twice a year that might make you happy.  UB is like 99% of the other teams in college sports.  Our football coach was hired in the week and a half before last season started, He is learning on the job give him a break Can you name another UB football coach that made a bowl game in his 2nd year. (You cannot) Our basketball program is playing fun basketball this year.  Oats was great we cannot have coaches like that every time.  We are a mid-major EVERY school goes through the same thing.  If you want to donate millions of dollars to UB sports, you can have a say in who coaches.  If you get no joy from something more on

  14. When you build a team by the portal you are going to have heavy losses via the portal These guys are mercenaries our coach is a mercenary.  He is a guy who quit on Michigan before he coached one game.  Contrary to what people on this board say he is just learning how to be a head coach if we keep him one more year, he might not let games get away in the 4th quarter

While I hate the transfer portal, I do understand that it's the new reality, and that we have to live with it.  Quitting on your team when there is still a bowl game left is disgusting.  They should be made to pay for their semester of classes for being classless.

It's not just UB but every College team.  There should be a change no one can enter the pool till after the campionship in whatever sport you are in

He is not gone yet "Returning to Buffalo is still a possibility" He is not transferring down or laterally.  He a young man who wants to see if he can go to a power program and get more than one team into the big dance.  I would do the same if I was him.  As said by many on this thread and other welcome to college basketball 2022

So just Fair, Wooley and Camp? Oh, and Lexi McNabb?

If I was Fair, I would rather win with UB than lose with SU.  I would be trying to talk Wolley and Camp to stay one more year like FLJ did instead of bolting.  I think McNabb is gone.  Wolley and Camp can jump to SU after the 23 season.  With the portal then can leave on their terms and on their schedule..
