I believe that is accurate. I also think it’s by design. Fulcher was a late add last year and staff was probably hoping for the best, but in my opinion, his departure doesn’t bother me, especially if a solid PF can be found.

Agree with PF being biggest need as of now. Tons of players still available in transfer portal so hopefully can land a nice big with experience.

I think he saw his PT going down the tubes and either not wanting to compete or didn’t feel like he could compete. The portal makes it really easy to give up these days.

Addition by subtraction. Fulcher was one of the worst shooters I’ve seen for a PG and really wasn’t a good passer or defender. Opens up another spot to fill for a need. Correct me if I’m wrong so now the only returners from last year are Sabol, Boldin, Wilson and McVeigh?

I like your optimism and tend to agree with your assessment. A go-to scorer that is ready to go and will make those around him better. We will see if we can get a piece like that.

Must have an experienced player who’s proven for this last spot. Grad transfer would make the most sense.

  4. I want to like this signing but a guy who couldn’t get it done at Maryland averaging under 2 pts a game your hoping finds his way but I really wanted to see transfers that have had some success at other programs. To me this is more of a gamble with the hope he figures it out and change of scenery is good for him.

Probably best for both sides. Personally I never liked his game and we need his scholarship slot freed to revamp things. One of the strangest jump shots I've ever seen, landing about three feet in front of where he took off. Hope he finds a good spot to finish his education.

Good kid but def best that he transfers. Didn’t have a solid role here and just can’t shoot the ball with any consistency to get significant minutes here.

  6. This was such a painful year. Wanted to watch just a team that competed and wasn’t expecting to win anything, but this team was unwatchable. I think at the end of the day, just not enough talent on the court and really no experience on the court either. I liked Boldin and Sabol, fulcher had moments but also must develop a jumper to be competitive and needs to play smarter. Only way I see this team competitive next year is bringing in couple guys from transfer portal. They need to get more athleticism and size to be competitive. I agree with what most said here that if they can’t compete next year halcovage has to go..

Fair point, however, I think Adam's regression/stagnation or whatever you want to call it is one of our major issues. If he was an actual solid veteran presence that he and Sy could be a 1-2 punch and allow the remaining guys to perform their roles, that would have helped a ton. That didn't happen and won't happen. These are the missing pieces we really need to figure out. Somehow we need to find 2 veteran scorers that can work together within whatever system the GH3 staff is envisioning. These guys must also be able to play D. Not an easy ask for sure.

Couldn’t agree more. He’s regressed significantly and just cannot be relied on anymore. It’s just too difficult to stay competitive in current environment without bringing in experienced players from transfer portal who can be relied on for scoring. Halcovage failed at bringing any transfers in who would have an impact in year 1, hopefully that changes for year 2.

Reposting this as a tool for discussing what has transpired with the roster and program in the last few years. Couple tweaks, added future verbal commits, working on linking seasons & players. Crazy to think about the quality of guards we had in the last decade compared to now.

    Buffalo MBB Roster Flow (1999-present)

More than a decade, two decades of quality guards, even can go back to the Turner Battle, Calvin Cage days they had quality backcourt back than also. It’s been basically 25 years since been this bad..

I can’t stand how Isaiah Adams plays. It feels like he single-handedly shoots us out of game sometimes. Takes dumb shots and thinks he’s a star

I never liked his game and seems like he regressed this year. Averaging 4 turnovers a game and can’t shoot the 3 anymore with any consistency. I know coming back from injury but can’t use that as an excuse forever. Also basketball IQ like you said just not there at many times.

I just realized that the Purple Eagles scored 49 points in the second half. And they aren’t that good. However, I underestimated them.

They aren’t that good you are right. We are just that bad right now. The question I have is are we going to win a game in the conference? Doesn’t look like it with product on the court now.

In theory this sounds fair - but what is your definition of "competitive product" (serious question, not being snarky)?

Definitely a good question. In my opinion  atleast 7 wins in the MAC. They play 18 conference games so have to atleast be competitive in conference. Right now they are light years away from this so he’s gonna have to work the transfer portal to be able get some talent in here.

  12. I think the thing that is most apparent from the first ten games is we just don’t have the talent right now to compete at not only MAC but D1 in general. I’d say only Chatman and Isaiah Adams are legit D1 starting players. Although I do like some of the recruits such as Boldin and Sabol, they are freshman and need much more development before being legitimate starting or rotation players. Fulcher has potential but can’t shoot the ball which is a huge problem at his position. I don’t think things will change so fast until Halcovage is able to go into the transfer portal and bring in some real experienced talent.

The wins will start coming, I think they have figured out a rotation that will work. Need Adams back so that a couple of the players that need more time to develop on the bench and in practice can do so without the pressure of the games

Wish I can be as optimistic as you. I don’t see the wins coming like you do. This team just doesn’t have the talent to win right now. Sure do I think they will win a couple games the rest of the year, sure. But going 5-25 is still a terrible year. Halcovage will need to get some experienced transfers next year in the portal to start really turning things back around and get more skill players on the court. That’s really the only way you turn things around these days with the portal.

  14. Going to be a long year. The biggest problem to me is the defense. They were slow on switches and just soft with physicality, it’s going to be a big problem, especially when it comes to Mac play. They really don’t have a legit rim protector either, Smith did not play any factor yesterday. They showed some promising signs the last 5 minutes of game but was too late at that point. Also can’t afford Isiah Adams to be a no show like he was yesterday. I like Sabol, kid can shoot the rock, just has to work to get tougher on defensive side of ball otherwise teams will try and isolate him.

About time, was probably a year overdue but it had to happen. We were one of the top mid majors in the country and went back to accepting mediocrity. Whitesell was a really nice guy, but just didn’t have the fire and determination to be a head coach, sure he’ll probably get an assistant job somewhere for last couple years of his career. Don’t know where Buffalo going with the hire, I would love Hodgson but not sure if they going that way. Cant be someone on the backend of career, gotta be someone who is up and coming. As much as many of us don’t like Alnutt, give him credit for making this move which was a must in my opinion.
