Buddy, for someone who always claims to be a UB lover, you project more hate on the players and coaches than anyone on here, in a majority of your posts. It's tiresome. Instead of always finding things to criticize, be happy that this team has been so successful over the past many years, in addition to having a strong core returning and adding an impressive recruiting class. Life isn't all gumdrops and candy, but give your negative comments of the team a rest.

Was anything I said wrong? Those were facts posted, not opinions.

Another "how you should be a fan" post. Thats your schtick though. I'm allowed to post my thoughts, just like you are.

I agree.  People always complain about the coaches.  Heck, I am sure people complain about Mark Few and Coach K.

What people are complaining about Whitesell now (or, at least, during the season) had to do with playing certain players at certain times, lack of "fire" on the sidelines, inability to get guys up for games where they were the superior team on paper, etc.

Having the worst home record in the MAC is a good place to start too. Worse than the 12 seed in the conference and not "qualifying" for Cleveland for the first time in 15 years are all valid criticisms without being accused of hating the program.

So this means that each team will play 9 teams twice and 2 teams once (1H and 1A).

yeah, but that's better than the 7 + 4 that it was during the 18 game stretch, but the 4 of them being in the MAC West.

removing the divisions and playing everyone but two teams is nice

Major adjustments are coming to the men’s and women’s basketball tournament as well. The MAC will be eliminating all first-round home games. The top eight teams from the regular season will advance directly to Cleveland. They will also be eliminating the divisions for men’s and women’s basketball and will be playing 20 conference games instead of 18.

Didn’t he threaten to leave Miami last year also?

Nah, he just joined the draft like Graves did

He was a top 3 player in the MAC to me, he was on a bad team but was ridiculous in the conference tournament on a 12 seed team

Anyone who would try to connect this to the coaching staff clearly has an agenda.

The task of getting the waiver documentation was delegated to an assistant and the assistant wasn’t getting what he needed.  Rather than speaking up, he didn’t want to fail at the task and look like he couldn’t do his job.  So he forged the documents and submissions.

This was a young kid who felt he had a big break to land a good job and didn’t want to ask for help because he was afraid it would seem like he was in over his head.

Followed by further lying to the AP about authorization?

How do you know this is how it went?

    Here’s yet another article...

My 2 cents into the fray...we all knew something was up when Jenkins was on leave then eventually fired. This is not what I want for our program. It’s definitely a black eye. Did it turn out to be the most serious violation, no. But it was a violation nonetheless. Our penalties aren’t so bad when you break them down. There was no loss of scholarship which is the biggest thing.

Now onto the bigger issue, the claim that Jenkins’s action was authorized by someone higher up. This is disturbing. Yes, the investigation yielded nothing to implicate Whitesell, his staff or anyone else higher up. However when you’re a veteran head coach having just taken over a program and hired this guy and this happens...it’s bad business.

I gotta believe that only Jenkins was involved, as the investigation yielded no further evidence. We did self report. But we gotta clean this up.  I would hope and expect that a coach have more control over things than this. And yes I know this wasn’t a death penalty situation. We will be under the watchful eye now with our probation. So we can’t afford anymore infractions.

BTW the forged documentation was never submitted as part of Mballa’s waiver request. And in the end played no part in him getting clearance. So what Jenkins did was plain stupid and apparently wasn’t even needed.

This is very rational. Good post.

I think it sums up both sides of the coin.

I do think the team needed to pivot and that's why Mballa went down to the day before the exhibition game and figured out a way to get it approved but whatever this referral was, Jenkins must have thought it was make or break with appropriate "authorization".

HJ seemed like a decent guy in the brief time that he was here. We have no idea what truly went down and likely never will know the details. Regardless, the investigation has gone on and completed with HJ being the only one implicated. For that reason, I stand behind the current staff and will believe that they were not part of whatever happened. It's kind of crazy that two young guys in the WNY bball area both left town quickly in a month's time this past season. Belein was at NU and gone just as quick as he came, same with HJ.

He was a decent guy for sure, he grinded hard and brought in a majority of that class + Chanse.

I have said many times that I don't know the exact specifics of what went down too, but i caught wind of it last year when many chalked it up as just a personal situation.

To your surprise, I'd prefer all of this ends here and no one else knew anything. I just personally don't think that's true. Regardless if future punishments are handed out (which i pray there isn't), I think it'll be hard for some of us to believe he didn't get authorization to try and do this.

Except you’re framing it like Whitesell is a guilty party or at least doesn’t have control over his program. Everyone knows you have an agenda against him

    Framing what?

I don't know what he knew. All I know is what happened underneath his watch and not under Reggie, Hurley, or Oats. Hence my comment.

The assistant coach that got fired just came out and said it was authorized. We can claim he's lying if we want but I don't see the purpose of him lying with the sanctions already handed out.

It absolutely is your opinion. Yes, "it" happened, but your statement puts it in terms that JW was aware of it, or part of it. For all we know, HJ went rogue and wanted to try to impress his new boss and do great legwork to get Mballa cleared, which included gross lying and falsifying. Maybe they were all in on it. Who really knows? No one here, but your condescending nature towards JW (and numerous others) is always at the forefront.

Jenkins knows and has commented on it already.

So your saying Jenkins is lying to the AP about others being aware? I'm going off of what was said. I have zero agenda against anyone.

I wonder what the faked person would have actually written.
Was faking it because of a difference of opinion, or a way to get the result quicker, or something else?

I'd assume they were running out of time to submit all materials, as most others had received notice of their waivers. Jenkins delivered the completed information presumably with a forged letter from a fake email address that was written by him/UB to be actually signed by the real player who was shading them.

Oof. No BrooklynBull is still entitled and a narc, this is something completely different and does not correlate at all

    Correct.

Cheating recruiting coordinator and sending in fake letters as another student is gross and can't believe that behavior wasn't caught before the fake email account was made.

    but this does =/=

All D1 teams having twitter fan accounts wishing student athletes well and to come to their school.

Are we entirely sure that his decommit was 100% his choice? His sudden departure from his high school team seemed to be immediately followed by a cooling of the relationship with UB. I wouldn't be shocked to hear there's more to the story.

    Right.

The funny part was when we said this in February we got blessed with the "he just wanted to stay near home, there isn't more here" crowd.

Folks,  I have gotten to know this young man over the last 2 years as my wife and I have mentored him during his 2 years in Juco.  He is a much better person today than hew was 2 years ago.  He has grown up a lot and is ready to be a leader.  You will get a ferocious competitor and one who will absolutely make everyone around him better.  He is a pass first guard but make no mistake, when Chipola needed him to score he could get to the basket at will.  Also understand that he was playing in the best Juco conference in America against really good talent.

You guys are gonna love Malik.  Cant wait to make my first trip to Buffalo for his first home game in November!

    Congratulations to Malik and Buffalo!

    Well said and welcome!

Stick around for a while, we would all love your insight.

Hope to see you at a game later this year.
