Likes prospect of trips to Grand Canyon over Niagara Falls?  I confess I don't understand this decision, but I guess he has his reasons.

Playing time with Segu in front of the PG depth chart.

That's sticky now because what players count as seniors? Does Brewton? I'm sure thats another layer of fun to be debated with the NCAA board.

How about players that will exercise their extra year like Segu/Mballa/Williams (JRs)? The 2021 seniors count this year, but anyone who isn't a senior that wants that eligibility it will count for the following year.

Knowing UB's budget and ideals, I bet they'll use it like 13 players, rather than 15+with a few on exemption.

I think this list more or less shows what they will do with the returning players.

With only 2 2021 guys that would imply two of  Brewton, Nickelberry, Brock, and Fagan are likely coming back and then they will use 2 more scholarships on these guys. Then that would fill out the roster

I think its safe to assume that Brewton and/or Nickelberry will be back.

Kevin, The coaching argument has carried over into many of the threads, not just the Jim Whitesell thread.  I expect to see the Whitesell/con vs. Whitesell/pro argument to carry over to one or more of the threads for Football, Volleyball, Track and Field... very soon.  I have to say that I very much agree with one of the 2 sides.  I'm just sick of it infiltrating every thread.   It has gotten old.

As a member of the "con" crowd. I think our opinions have a lot of good facts behind them. However, I can agree that they shouldn't be taking over every post. Though, in some posters defense, certain people poke the crowd with every chance they get. Literally no reason to make stupid comments about Graves in every single thread that's clearly about the portal.

Can you all make a new thread for this? I keep thinking one of our players transferred

I thought I had a thread already for this but I load into this thread looking for doom and I see more coaching arguments.

There are certainly some interesting ways the last 2 years have been perceived.

Both Reese and Hamlet left at a time where we were deep and loaded. Had they waited their turn at UB, last season and this season would’ve been theirs. Specifically Hamlet. Reese would’ve been a key bench contributor. Hamlet a key starter IMO.

Hamlet left in 2018 right after Summer practices before the huge ranked year. He and Reese were on the scout team together all year. I had a chance to speak with Javion.

You mean he used to make $2 million. He got canned and will be looking for any opportunity to bounce back and won’t be getting any P5 offers. Buffalo would look like a dream job to him

This is very Perfect. I had the same thoughts today when I saw it happen. The next stage for him is a high level mid major. UB would be a perfect fit for him, but they wouldn't make the move, even if they should.

Something is fishy there. The chairperson in the interview didn’t go into too much detail. But hey I’ll take it. Belmont should absolutely be in. The other schools can eat it lol

They were all 90 or worse KenPom

The NIT I swear just goes down the KenPom list

After next year we have 5 players on the roster. Skogman, Williamson, Gallion, Hardnett, Zachary? After next season we are rebuilding hardcore.

Can an admin merge this with the other roster thread?

Yeah, that's the doomsday scenario that any who have followed know is coming.

It could happen in 2021 if any decide to transfer.

And we will have JW in charge to rebuild.

  11. The usual depth chart thread and player tracker

    PG) Ronaldo Segu/Curtis Jones/Ty Perry
    SG) Maceo Jack/Keishawn Brewton/Kidtrell Blocker
    W) Jeenathan Williams
    F) LaQuill Hardnett/Kuluel Mading/ Tra'von Fagan
    F) Josh Mballa/Brock Bertram/David Skogman/Zaakir Williamson

Open spots - 1 (Based on how they classify Fagan)

I don’t like that basketball’s success falls on the head coach, while football coaches get to (to some extent) lean on their assistants.

That's fair. I'm fine with giving whatever one of Whitesell's assistant the blame as well.

Thorpe came in with an underwhelming profile from losing programs. Thats not opinion. The team's he's had recently were all horrible. His biggest achievements come with getting teams to secondary tournaments.

Recruiting has been a disaster under Whitesell, leading to the dismissal of one coach when his activities went unnoticed. We have no idea about the new coach, he brought in an underwhelming Zachary and Brewton so far.

Quarles ticks all the boxes so far to me. He is a great coach and helps with many facets of the team. Hired by Oats though, so that's not a surprise.
