I remember the 2005 MAC Championship when Buffalo had a 20 point lead at the half (I think).  Ohio got back in that game by pressing on each Buffalo possession.  Witherspoon hadn't prepared for that apparently.  Maybe we can press the 2nd half but Whitesell is just slightly higher energy than Witherspoon.

Reggie sat in the sidelines like he was frozen. He failed to call any time outs to break their momentum. Just a terrible coaching job.

Terrible defense from beginning to end.  How can Preston be so wide open?!  No game plan on either end.  Too many breakdowns to list.  Only question now is do we have the heart to make it a game.  Ohio can't miss.  Shooting over 50% killing it on 3s and out rebounding us. At this point play the starting 5 until this is over.  Any comeback has to start defensively.  We might have run into a buzzsaw

They had a stretch for about 10 minutes that was very good. Unfortunately the early and late parts of the half were horrible. The point is they can do it. But they’ve got to be a whole lot better in offense an no more dumb arse plays and turnovers

There is 0.5% chance they even get it to single digits, let alone come back.

I have to say lesser men would agree with you. I’ve been on teams that have gotten behind and some have displayed a defeatists attitude and stopped playing hard. You have be strong mentally and never give up. You get kicked down. Get your ass back up! Show some fight. Punch them back. Will see what type of character these guys have in the second half. At this point I don’t give a hoot if they lose. I want them to display a winners attitude. We’ll see if they’re any leaders on this team shortly.

  4. Pretty easy diagnosis here. Turnovers and terrible offense. There have been some very good stretches in this game where we’ve played pretty solid defense and drove their shooting percentages down from +50% into the 30s.  But the reckless decisions on drives, forcing shots, committing reckless turnovers  and failing to recognize that they’re taking the lane away is absolutely destroying these guys. Turnovers and stupidity on offense are the two things I’ve preached about this season. Meanwhile Ohio is showing how “team” basketball destroys one on one and selfish offense. Watch how Ohio passes the ball, penetrates the lane, kicks it out when a lane to the hoop is not there which has given them tons of open looks for easy shots. They’ve got to get their minds right, play defense like their life depends on it and play much smarter offensive basketball. If they do they can come back.

I was going to like this. But like many of us we’ve apparently handed out too much appreciation to our fellow fans over the last day. Something to address, perhaps?

  6. They always have fundraising arms. Interesting they’d do away with the “excellence” brand. I’d like to know who and why they chose to do away with what seemed to be working well. Regardless with the football team finishing among the the top 25 this year there is no denying that is the epitome of excellence. And if the men’s team gets the W tonight it will be just another excellent achievement.

For me though, I’ve seen too many examples over the last several years where it seemed to me that this in charge do not share my belief in the vast potential of UB Athletics. There have instances where I’ve had conversations with several of the movers and shakers within and without the athletic office what’s the attitude was we can’t do that rather than we can and we’re going to make every effort to do so. I’ve written about this in various threads throughout these pages. My life has always been about believing nothing is out of reach with faith, relentless effort, getting your ass back up off the ground after being kicked down and finding them working with others who share the same attitude.

With that said this thread should be deleted and replaced with a new one with the B&W fund link.

Whenever he’s hitting his 3s we struggle. It’ll be interesting to see if they can hold him to another poor 3 point outing like last game

He’s got great footwork inside too. He’s a tough match up. Gotta stay out of foul trouble. And as you point out he’s got the three ball as Ohio has a great sense of when to kick it out for the open 3.

Ohio fan here. I was at the games tonight.  That was a fun one watching you guys beat the Zips. Good luck tomorrow... but not too much haha

Welcome back from the wilderness. Always a pleasure beating them don’t you think? 👍👍

Not sure. I know they did the UB there (or whatever it was called) with the "virtual sellouts".

It appears that a philosophy change occurred. Danny White was all about excellence. Darn certain that was his brain child. There should be a dedicated avenue promoted so each team has a direct line of support. That’s not to criticize the virtual sellouts and such.

  10. I was just going to ask if there is an excellence fund anymore. I checked the link above and the page could not be found. Sad! Obviously someone has dropped the ball. There hasn’t been any promotion of this for two years or so. That is a huge blunder on the part of those running the show.

I was going to post a challenge to this page that if I could get enough fans to donate 1k I’d match it.

  11. Keep celebrating tonight’s win. But time for me at least to look at the biggie tomorrow night.

Did you know this will be UB’s fourth appearance in the last five MAC title games? Okay we all probably know that. But what can we draw or learn from those appearances? Did you know that Jayvon has played in two title games during that span? Perhaps. But the lesson he is 2-2. He’ll be 3-3 after tomorrow night. Take it to the bank!

    Let’s effing go!!!

    Go Bulls!

PS I’ll be back tomorrow with my guru’s prediction.

Mid major teams don’t just fire winning coaches. Who are you gonna replace him with? A rookie head coach? That doesn’t make sense. Yes he’s come up small in big games but he wins a lot.

You’re right. But heck the natives are restless in Toledo. They haven’t made a tourney appearance since 84

That might have something to do with my feeling. 😝

He’s damn good. He looked lost as a freshman. In fact I couldn’t believe he ever got a scholarship. But he’s improved so much he’s probably the best play in the MAC.
