The first thing he mentioned about his playstyle is being a "lockdown defender". That is something I like to see.

6'6" could be a nice redzone threat

I compiled the following to try to get a high level view of how this roster could be coming together. It consists of players that we currently have signed / committed, offers and public interest.
Curious what people think about potential roles / starters from this or what they perceive as focus areas for any future prospects to be identified.
I feel like GH is going to go for a more "positionless" basketball approach. He mentioned that he wants all players to be able to switch. So he might be going for a lot of taller guards and more athletic (but maybe shorter) big men.

Not sure where to put this. Probably not important enough for its own thread. I participate in a trivia league and they are currently doing one day quizzes. Today's category was 'College Sports Team Nicknames'. Thought I would share a question from today's contest.
Two FBS schools have team nicknames that are the plural of a different FBS school name (for instance, if Kansas was the Kansas Baylors or if Purdue was the Purdue Auburns). Name the full team name (school and nickname) of either one.
p.s. if there is interest I can post the other 11 questions in a new thread.
Well I definitely know one of them for obvious reasons.

We are his first D1 offer, so I would assume there is a good chance he ends up here.

Not pro day related but didn’t think it was worth its own thread. Marshall had a private workout with the Falcons and the article projects him as a 7th round - undrafted prospect. He probably has the best chance to be drafted out of any UB player this year.

I’d love to see D1 hockey at UB, would keep some High level talent from the Buffalo and Rochester area around. Surprised Oswego isn’t in the mix for a d1 hockey program, they’re better than some d1 programs.
On a UB basketball note lol… hoping to hear some offers and 🤞a transfer/commitment this week. Hopefully Halcovage becomes a bit more open in his recruiting efforts.
I have always been very surprised we don't have a D! hockey program. Feels like we could be a very solid team with the local talent.

I don't get the game here, but he is putting up a solid stat line tonight so far. In foul trouble though.

I think it is great to have a former player on the staff. Should be able to help Halcovage with the ins and outs of UB.

There has been a lot of negative comments about the UB Basketball program lately (up until the new coach was hired), but I'd be interested in what people think are UB's (basketball) positives that could be used to sell this program to somebody (i.e. coach, player, or fan).
Is it the Arena, history, fan base, True Blue?
I haven't watch the Coaches New Conference yet, but he seems to have the energy to promote this program.
I think our biggest selling point is that we typically win. Out of the last 15 seasons we have only had 2 losing seasons (one of which was barely below .500). In those seasons we have an overall record of 301-181 (.624 win %) and a conference record of 169-91 (.65). We have also made the tournament 4 times in the last 9 years.
For coaches specifically this is good because most coaches view mid major schools as a place to get themselves to a power conference, which has happened to 2 of our last 3 coaches. UB is clearly a school that has the resources to succeed in the MAC and get coaches closer to their ultimate goal.
I remember back in 2019 there was MAC coaches poll ranking all the jobs. They had our #1 selling point as Game Atmosphere. But obviously that has fallen off.

"It is a job that was highly sought after" - Alnutt.
Well that is debatable.....

Pretty strong start for him, 7 pts and 5 boards in 13 minutes.

I am very happy with the hire! Hopefully he can bring us back to the Oats level.

Rick Pitino to St John’s basketball this is who should have been hired by UB Bulls basketball. We’re not a big one ridiculous Rick Pitino would have gotten UB Bulls basketball to the NCAA’s. Instead of cheap training wheels maybe UB Bulls basketball coach the former UB Bulls basketball team manager over proven basketball head coach ridiculous. UB will probably over pay the former UB team manager and give whatever his lawyer wants long term contract fail. Don’t tell me New York City cares about UB they don’t in my opinion. UB Horns Up! Go Bulls! Let’s Go Buffalo
Hate to break it to you, but St. John’s is a better job that UB. Pitino chooses them over us every time.

I don’t think he will get fired, so I hope he retires.

If he goes 1 and done in Cleveland, is that it for him?
It should be, but it won’t be

I voted for no one. When I was in school it definitely felt like Ohio, Kent, and Akron had the most animosity though. The good old days when DJ cooper stole a sign from the student section

The crowd looks pretty solid tonight

Powell hitting 3s completely changes this team

I hope Curtis Jones doesn't transfer

This commentary team is horrible

I am personally okay with a "rebuilding" year. Very few coaches come in and have success immediately. I would rather a coach find "his guys" who he can develop and build a good culture rather than try to win immediately with someone who will be graduating in the spring. Obviously if it is possible to win and do those things at the same time that is preferred but it is not always easy or even possible to do that.
