Just crazy how this system is. Transfer out after the season, sign somewhere, then leave out before even getting out of the current academic year. I'd imagine the D coach who was from UB, who was let go from Utah State influenced the decision, but still, this whole system is such a joke. "Good" teams just buy the best players, no players (or coaches) have the slightest bit of loyalty to a school/team ever. Just call it what it is, semi-pro sports or minor league sports, or something along those lines. This is no way student-athlete/academic driven to be bouncing around year after year, so get rid of the whole nonsense of it all, at least in football/basketball (and maybe some of the other sports, although I don't follow them as closely to know the % of transfers year over year).

I wish him the best regardless, he gave plenty to UB over the years (should've stayed however).

Rumor is there was a family tragedy that made him want/need to come back home, and he will be coming back to play for his hometown Bulls.

CJ Ogbonna has been better than Gunnar Gray today

CJ still cannot accurately throw the ball more than 10+ yards with consistency. A number of his incompletions were poorly thrown when the WR was 20+ yards out. If we're going by passing skill I think Gray is the better QB. But if coaches think we can just run the option as our offense the entire time then CJ's the better QB for that.

    $200k for MBB

    $100k for WBB

    $500k for FB

By the way, these are all bottom line numbers for MAC championship.

Any idea how much Akron, Kent State, and Miami raised for their collectives? Miami really intrigues me since they had the Lou Groza Award winner on their team. They must have been pushing a million plus to get their MAC Championship!

  4. Alyssa Latham (Syracuse) transfers to Tennessee. How does this relate to UB? Well:

Danny White is hired at UB, he hires Felisha Legette-Jack. Danny White leaves UB, (goes to UCF,) and is hired at Tennessee. Felisha Legette-Jack is hired at Syracuse and portals half our team to Syracuse over a year or so.

Mark Alnutt hires Becky Burke, who had a brief stop at D2 Charleston where they played Glenville State, coached by Kim Caldwell. Burke grabs two Glenville State players (Stone and Winfield) as transfers in her first season at UB. With Burke leaving USC Upstate, one of her players (Harness) transfers to Marshall.

The following year Caldwell is hired at Marshall.

Now we’re in this off-season and Danny White fires the Tennessee coach and hires Caldwell. Burke signs her old player (Harness), who just played for Caldwell at Marshall, from the portal. And now Caldwell signs FLJ’s star freshman (Latham) to Tennessee.

The Circle has been completed. Everybody has taken somebody and has had somebody taken from them.

Anyone want to venture on to the conspiracy side and think they want to get rid of wrestling altogether? Either to save money or replace it with another sport, bringing baseball or men’s soccer back?

The baseball "stadium" doesn't exist anymore and the MAC doesn't sponsor men's soccer anymore. I would love if we sponsored those sports but it isn't simple.

Anywho, rumor has it that Donnie Vinson has been hired. https://cornellbigred.com/sports/wrestling/roster/coaches/donnie-vinson/10150

Great job by the staff working the portal and getting another guard that can shoot the 3! Looking to next years roster I think we have 2 maybe 3 scholarships available if Thompson does not sign. I firmly believe we need more size 6'2 + at the W/F positions and in this age of basketball having another 35% plus  3pt shooter to round out the roster.  Burke had last years team buy into hard nose defensive identity. The lack of size had no impact on the level of effort each player put out. If they can maintain that with the size they have, add scoring diversity so Watson does not have to carry such a high load they have a great odds of being back in the MAC title game🤘

Harness is a senior based on her Twitter post saying 1 year of eligibility left. Wonder where the other scholarships will go. I'm still hoping for more size, hopefully a center or another forward.

Guard - Wangolo, Lewis-Williams, Take, Gines, Lopez, Watson (6)

    Guard/Forward - Davis, Ogden (2)

    Forward - Ojala (1)

Moving on - Elhusseini, Baron, Johnson, Craig

    Uncertain - Gouzelou

Known Incoming - Barr-Budday, Rowe, Daly, Cornfield, Hartman, Thompson (6)

That would put us at (15) plus Gouzelou. I'm guessing she is done at this point unless someone else leaves. I believe there are only 14 scholarships, so not sure what that means. Maybe Ojala is moving on?

    D1 limits are 15 for women’s basketball.

If all of the roster and coaching movement is done, this is a massive win for Burke and she absolutely proved me wrong. Portal is still open for about a month, but so much happens early on. Retaining the MAC FOTY and the conference’s top scorer (who I have to think has a degree by now, meaning transfer without sitting out is a possibility) is also huge.

but the one that immediately came to mind was Amari DeBerry from Williamsville, currently at UConn. She's 6'6" and would be a major difference maker in the MAC.

Was hoping the same thing but it doesn’t look like she’s in the portal. And I don’t think we have her major, unless she has her degree already.

Unless he reached a deal with St. Bonaventure for some money on his way out, his buyout was $0.00.  Remember he quit, he was not fired.  Buyouts have to be paid when an AD or a coach is not fired for cause (cause is not bad results, cause is for violating rules. See Cohane, Tim).

Buyout or given money to leave I view as the same thing. I don’t think he just voluntarily decided to leave without any monetary compensation.

Remember Quentin Hillsman “resigned” too. He got a nice payday to resign, even though it’s possible he could have been fired for cause.

Lani Cornfield from Lake Shore HS and member of the Seneca nation is transferring to UB from Southern Mississippi. She will be a Senior. 25.2 mpg. 8.3 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 91 assists, 54 steals. Shot 41.1% FG and 39.6% 3-Pt (best on the team). Tenacious defender. Sounds like a solid add. She is 5'6 and listed as a guard.

She had a HUGE crowd cheering for her in the SBC-MAC game at alumni arena this year. Usually when we play a team that has a local they’ll bring a handful of family members. She brought a whole section.

Joins Josh Mballa as a player to play us one season then join us for the next.

while Buffalo fans have been calling for Mark Alnutt's job for a few years now and it's not even a realistic possibility.

The big question is are UB donors putting up money for Alnutt to be bought out? It doesn't matter how much we complain on twitter or this board, if the money isn't being put up he isn't getting fired/"resigning". Given Tripathi's age is it really worth buying out an AD when the president is likely to retire at any time? Alnutt has 2 years left on his contract. If it was going to be extended it would have been by now. There's a new football coach, a decent WBB coach, and possibly the worst D1 MBB coach we've ever had though he's only a year in. Short of Burke taking a new job this year (unlikely) or next year (possibly), Alnutt shouldn't have to make a major hire again.

Obviously Bona's exclusively MBB donors care about the NIT enough to pony up money to buy him out. It's really unfortunate for Manhertz, apparently the Olean faithful did not tell him enough stories about the NIT Championship and/or the championship banner is not big enough for him to notice it.

  12. We have our first BOOM of the season

    Losing:
    Point Guard: Rana Elhusseini
    Guard: Briyanna Baron
    Guard: Katie Burton
    Forward: Kiara Johnson
    Center: Chanteese Craig (per WBBBlog)
    Gaining:
Forward: Brianna Barr-Buday (Nichols, Buffalo, NY) Offers from Manhattan, Marist, Saint Joseph’s, La Salle, Canisius, Niagara. Originally recruited by FLJ

Point Guard: Aniya Rowe (Rochester, NY) Offers from Manhattan, Canisius, Binghamton
Forward: Samairah Thompson (Columbus, OH) don't see anything for D1 offers

Possibly Losing (Have Not Seen At Games, Still on Roster):
