Hey, we are getting ready to close the doors, lowering the ceiling, and getting change for your cash on Saturday!  If any of you want to follow me I’m leaving a little early as I’m stopping for a bite to eat and a few drinks before the game.  I love the cracks on Olean as I never have heard those, oh wait,  I hear them about Buffalo all the time.  I guess it makes people feel superior to put down other places.

I have heard criticisms of the Reilly Center before, but never the low ceiling and the closing of the doors, but it is a fun place to watch a game.

i know I say things just to get things going a little bit, but this is a legitimate question.  Isn’t football holding you guys back?  I live in Buffalo and love college basketball.  You guys have a great team, but when I look at your schedule there isn’t a team on there I want to see you play at Alumni Arena.  How many directions are there in Michigan? I might go see you play Syracuse with a couple of UB friends. Dump football and get in the Atlantic 10.  Real sports fans know the MAC. Degenerate gamblers are the only ones interested in the football. Do you guys make money on it?  I won’t respond to my football question that is for you guys to figure out.  See some of you Saturday.

I would assume the plan is to move from the MAC to a conference like the AAC, which better fits our academic and athletic profile. Joining a conference that is comprised of a lot of small private liberal colleges really isn’t something many fans and administrators of an AAU flagship university want to do. Sure an at-large bid would be a bit easier, but is playing Fordham and Duquesne going to attract any more fans than Directional Michigan and Ohio State’s little brother? Fans want to see a good team play, and if the opponent is attractive we might get a bump.

Agreed.  But this team didn't do itself many favors this year, when the spotlight was on them and they had a big opportunity to get people's attention for good reasons, they didn't take advantage.  The Toledo game went well, that was on Channel 2 and got great ratings; the Army game (undefeated with a big crowd, nice weather, and the Bills away and in the dumps) and this one, not so well.

I don't disagree at all.  But I'm hoping that some of these people that saw us blow the game looked under the BUFFALO, see 10-2, and think "Wow I should see this team that won so many games even though they sucked for the last 20 minutes".  I'd rather have UB Football in the press for going 10-2 and losing the championship game than no press, us going 2-10, or having UB football in the news for something bad.

We usually use Sarnia - Port Huron.  But then again, we're normally heading North to Mackinac.  It's about an hour on 402 once you get to London.  Usually not much traffic on 402.   For Ford Field, I think it wouldn't matter much at all.  I agree with UB85 regarding the backup on Blue Water Bridge.  If you have Nexus though, I believe that would be the way to go.  There's a designated Nexus lane all the way across the bridge.  You can pass them like they're standing still.  That's because they often are.   Great view from the bridge toward the North.

I'll be one of those guys you'll be passing.  My Chase card gives me free TSA Pre Check ($85) or Global Entry ($100), but does not include free Nexus ($50, which includes TSA Pre Check).  I'm starting to think just paying the $50 will be worth it.

I propose this:  Saturday Dec 15, home game vs Southern Illinois at 2 pm.  The alumni take matters into their own hands.  Wear your old Mighty Maniacs shirt (or whatever you have from your student days), anyone willing to get the job done in the students' absence meet before the game in the True Blue end zone.  We make noise up in 113 but I gave up being too rowdy a long time ago (plus the other team can't hear me from row O) - I'm willing to come out of retirement for this.

We're not doing this to stand down there trying to look cool or play with our phones.  We make noise every time the Bulls are on defense and for opposition foul shots.  Get the basic 'BU-FF-AL-O-GO", "Let's go UB" chants going.  "BYAH" for blocks.

    I'm in.

You get a few people going and it changes the whole place.  Especially on those bleachers.

Imagine this is the first game someone comes to because they see Buffalo was ranked.

Do you think they enjoined the game and will want to return to buy tickets for more of this?

40 point win vs a not bad team (most importantly a team that has some name recognition, not eastern south carolina A&M&T state)

    Dunk city

    Ranked team

I don't think I'm going out on a limb by saying if that was your first game you are surely coming back for more.

This is a shot from when the student section made up half (probably over half this game) of the attendance.

Not in any way to discount the achievements of the track/cross country teams, but it is really nice to not have to hang banners of teams that don't even compete in AA just to have something on the walls.

We had a similar student turnout a few years back vs Kent State.  Evans stepback 3 game.  Students filled both baselines and a couple sections in the 300's.  Unreal night.

There's a concession in the Northeast corner between the 200 level and 300 level of AA.  Maybe that could be utilized.   Stand alone beer stands at football could help  keep congestion from getting worse at the current concession stands.

I was thinking portables in the lobby.  That stand is right next to the student section and students just bring in beer as it is.

  8. I don't think AA is a bad arena.  It's the best D1 basketball arena in upstate NY.  It doesn't get as loud as Bona or is as big as Cuse, but I think it's the nicest.  Canisius and Niagara remind me of my high school gym.

Want to complain about concessions? Bona doesn't even take credit cards.
