Unless something has changed since 2006, he will be a very hard hire.  Turner Gill wanted him as an assistant.  They had to get waivers, because he never graduated PItt.  They got the waivers and then he went to the NFL, the Bills I think.

Seriously?  I find it hard to connect the dots between graduating from Pitt and being an assistant coach.  As in most fields, I care much more about industry certification, good interviews, and an open market.

  2. We are all looking for more from just about every position, including QB.  My question is what do you give up with Myers.  He is more mobile, but you lose aspects of the passing game, particularly from the pocket.  We have been spoiled for a few years with such a potent offense, especially at running back, but also wide receiver.  Our offensive weapons overall are far less this year.  We are going to need to win with execution and sustained drives, perhaps without the big gainers that we have become accustomed to.

My issue isn’t if Lance can do it or not. I look at the track record of Kansas and their unrealistic expectations. They won’t give time. If he doesn’t go above .500 in 2 maybe 3 years he’s gone. Higher profile coaches have been axed in that time. Kansas needs to allow what Buffalo did for Lance, give him time to change culture and perception. I just don’t see it happening and I wanted better for him to be honest. I also think his loyalty to his coaches (while I personally applaud it), he may have been better served to grab some guys that have been in the deep end of the pool to help him navigate an environment like he is going into. Hopefully he will prove me wrong but that conference, while not what it once was, is going to be a gauntlet.

Kansas has been amazing in its ability to maintain consistently poor performance in football.  They aren't just bad, they have been the bad of bads.

  4. Did Lance not take any players with him?  That surprises me.

For instance, they could have used Gall.  The Kansas o-line is huge, but not particularly skilled or disciplined.  Last year, their QB had to do it pretty much all by himself.

Yep. If he left last January,  I'd be happy for him. If he left this January,  same deal. Leaving now seems like a self-centered, weak and backhanded move. Congrats,  you got your money. I for one,  don't see him doing similar to nate's rise. If he does, I'll eat crow, but I'd wager against it (and I'm not much of a bettor).

Agreed.  The timing on this is very bad for UB.  Seems like they almost have to go with a current staff member, at least on an interim basis, in order to have any continuity (and avoid an exodus).

I suspect that this will happen, should LL stay, during the next few weeks.

You can see where Lance is on this list.  Towards the top, certainly, but probably would need to move up into the $800k range.

More telling are the OC/DC numbers for the schools in the top conferences.  Many of them are topping $1 mil.

Based on FBI crime data, Lawrence is not one of the safest communities in America. Relative to Kansas, Lawrence has a crime rate that is higher than 92% of the state's cities and towns of all sizes.

This is the definition of a smaller town with a big university!

  8. Anybody else see the feature on ESPN SportsCenter about an hour after the game (after they got done with all the NFL drivel)?  It was a really nice feature on the Buffalo win and had some great shots of Vantrease taking hits, such as on one of the TD's where he sat up afterward and made a victorious gesture.  It belongs on a hype video!

Buffalo -11, o/u 52 1/2. Ohio, Miami, Kent St also favored this week.

Athlon ranks Buffalo #1 in almost all defensive groups and Northern Illinois #9 or #10 in all offensive groups.  The spread seems rather low to me.

Thanks.  Didn't know he was on that committee.  Now, what are we hearing on the ground?  Are most players back in town?  When will conditioning start?  Percentage chance of the season starting in the Little Apple (Manhattan, KS)?  We may all have our opinions and hopes, but surely some of you have connections that have actual substance to them.
