Hi Bulls, it is game day!  Interesting comment about the practice fields, our conference mates that have played in this bowl before have also commented that they don't seem ready for prime time down there, but I think that is just the Caribbean.

I get that you are not going to care much about Charlotte, but thought I would drop this here for a bit of an quick story about the fan experience from our side.  Next year maybe we can act like we have been there before, but this year it is all new.

For the Bulls fans that made the trip, stay safe and have fun.

Nice to see the Charlotte fans making the most of it.  Bowls are really special.  This one has plenty of points of interest:  first bowl win for one team, fierce wind, Patterson on an amazing run of rushing TD's.

I've often thought about a professional college football league. The university would spin off their profit making (or potentially profit making) team and license the rights to the university's name and logo. So the Ohio State Buckeyes would be a wholly own entity of the Ohio State University, but NOT a college team. The players would be paid without academic restrictions (though scholarships could be a team perk) and the fans could still root for the old Alma Mater. The league would be a little bit like a combination of the Big 10 and a working NFL minor leagues. Student Athletes would just be working athletes and get paid. Salary caps, signing rules, possible school subsidies and all of that would need to be worked out. I see it as more like hockey's junior leagues than baseball's minor leagues. Teams (schools) that don't make money could fold.

The rest of the 18-21 year old football world, beyond the elite athlete, would still be good ole fashion amateur football.

Hey I'm old. I like to dream.

While I see something like this coming, here are the problems I see:

    1.  As long as there is still huge interest in the non-pro college league, you are going to have players not being paid though generated great revenue for the university.

    2.  There will be huge advantages for the colleges with pro teams, not unlike colleges that also have "regional training centers" for wrestling.

But I think something along the lines of colleges having the opportunity to have both pro and non-pro teams is coming.

  3. I anticipate a break-up of college football, due to the payment of some players, new (lower) payments for broadcast rights, and the escalation of head coach salaries.  Essentially, I anticipate a pre-NFL league in which players are fully paid.  If you want to play football and make money, try to get into this league.  This is the only way that anything like current college football can survive.

Is Mississippi a better job than Minnesota at this point?   Bielema comes to mind...leaving a successful stint at Wisconsin for the lure of Ole Miss and the SEC (and a little more green...for him and his coaches).   But that didn't work out.    And Fleck got a nice boost to his salary earlier this fall.

If I am thinking of an Ole Miss coach, point me in the direction of the hot G5 coach (the guy at Memphis), the coach for a less visible P5 squad or an SEC coordinator.   And while Fleck hits the second mark, I don't see his shtick playing in The Grove.  But I could be wrong.  The lure and attraction of the SEC is strong...and there is definitely an SEC bias (ask Dabo for his opinion on that).

Bielema left Wisconsin for Arkansas (and not necessary because the SEC is better, but because his seat was getting pretty hot in Madison).

Having attended both universities I'm torn on who to root for!  I guess since I ultimately graduated from Charlotte I should probably root for them.  Patterson should have a great game though!  Hopefully it's close and exciting!

So, your first post here is to tell us you are probably not cheering for Buffalo.  Boo.  😉  You know that UB helped make you who you are!  😁   Go Bulls!

Well well, I guess hitting a 21 point lead is our cue to stop playing football. Please stop telling me how great Lance is.

    Shouldn't drunk-post.

    P.S.  #26 is incredible today.

I know what I wrote.  The Spectrum has him transferring from both Buff State AND Indiana literally 7 days apart in two different editions.  So would you not agree theres a conflict there with the information from the Spectrum?

Plus, again, Ive provided enough evidence placing Gary at Buff State at least in 1977

Again...Im just trying to find out how Indiana figures into this if theres no record (other than a conflicting source, the Spectrum) of Gary being at Indiana.

The reason why this matters to me, is I would HOPE, that UB, in doing a Trivia contest for special seating would make it possible for everybody to have an equal shot at winning, not just those who personally knew the guy or was given the answer by somebody who knew it.  Ive researched this for three days in a row now, and there isnt anything readily available (other than the spectrum article, which is conflicted) for somebody to give an answer of "Indiana" without flat out guessing.   So from the outside in, this contest looks like it was designed for only a certain few to be able to win.

I hope they may have been just trying to give the tickets to an old-timer who actually knew him.

  8. So, what are your preferences?

    1.  Camellia Bowl, Montgomery, AL.  Mostly because I like southern cities (e.g. BBQ and bars).

    2.  Cheribundi Bowl, Boca Raton, FL.  Lots of options to fly into.

    3.  Makers Wanted Bowl, Nassau, Bahamas.  Partly because Makers Wanted is a Chicago thing.

Not sure how to predict.  The MAC bowl selections always baffle me in terms of logic.

The MAC Championship went that way. The Bowl game against Troy went that way. The Kent State game went that way. That's 3 in the last 15 games.

There have been plenty of other painful losses, but the MAC Championship and the Troy bowl game are not in the same category.  This loss was epic.
