  1. Can't blame him for believing in himself and his dreams.  Crazy things can happen once you get drafted.  Now, all that matters is what happens once he gets drafted or signed with a team.  1st Round or undrafted, he still has to impress during camp with whomever signs him.

    Check out @GregVorse’s Tweet:

Aside from what UB released it was a typical spring game, D ahead of rebuilding offense. Our best unit is O-line so some good runs, Marks sat out so all RB's got action. Myers and Aapri Washington sat out too. They went deep as they could at WR, as Ruiz's 4 catch performance showed. UB offered another 6'3 JUCO WR today, so it'sclear they want bodies for the fall.

Not sure what the announcer was talking about.  That was not a TD to Ruiz and wasn't thrown by Johnson.  It was a nice toss and catch though.  Those plays move the sticks no matter what when the QB and receiver are in sync.

Here’s an interesting article. There is a quote from Tyree that says he’s never been exposed to certain things when it comes to refining his mechanics. Makes me question the staff at UB. Did we just let him be and win games purely on his natural talents? Or did we actually try to develop him while winning games?

Interesting article.  Thanks for the link.  I especially liked this particular way of spinning some of his throwing problems:

Coaches who have drafted players previously with the intention of fixing their throwing motions often do so at their own peril. Jackson is one of the few who welcomes the opportunity.

“I think the exciting thing about it is, I have so much more room to learn and improve,” Jackson said. “It’s just awesome. Coming out here to train, really work on my mechanics and stuff I’ve never been exposed to is awesome. You can see an improvement I already made since I got out here in January."

Looks like Tyree might be having a rough combine.

I said this when watching games.  He needs to not throw so hard on those short throws.  Problem is that I don't think he knows how to mix speeds with accuracy on throws.  He just knows how to throw hard.

Wondering who he is listening to prior to the actual drills.  Does he not know how hard to throw on his own (or with help from his own advisors)?

UB's stated academic peers are Rutgers, Iowa, and UC Irvine. So The State University of New Jersey should be it. Maybe one day.

Miami is our closest in the MAC, but they have their rivalry with Bobcats and Bearcats. Stony Brook would be it if they were FBS or MAC. If we got into the ACC with UMass, UConn, and Temple, UConn would cry but we'd have some untra fun divisional rivalries.

Seriously?  Rutgers, Iowa, and UC Irvine?  Why those?  Especially Iowa?  Has anyone from Buffalo even been to Iowa?  Maybe they meant Ohio.

True, however somehow you never hear about athletes worried about a coach getting poached. In our situation it's way more likely that Leipold is poached than we let his contract expire and don't re-sign him.

I think kids aren't naive enough to believe the contract matters. If the coach does well he rips it up, if he does poorly, the university rips it up.

I think that messaging is solely targeted to ADs, because you negotiate a 5 year deal, then 2 years later are told you have to extend or you'll lose recruits, and if the coach is bad, you can't let him crash your fan base for an entire Undergrad cycle, thus every deal is effectively only 2-3 years but the buyout is always 5 years.

Agreed.  It is quite naive for athletes and their families to think that the coach who recruits them will be there when they graduate.

Of the coaches in the link below, exactly half have been hired in the last three years!   27 in 2019, 20 in 2018, 18 in 2017.

Only 37 were hired in 2015 or earlier.  Only 26 were hired in 2013 or earlier, but exactly half of them (13) were hired in 2008 or earlier.  I

In other words, if the coach who is recruiting you has already been there for a few years, but less than 10, watch out!

P.S.  And that is the head coaches who are the most stable.  To expect that an assistant coach will stay is downright dumb.

It will either be Vantrease or Myers. I’d give the nod to Vantrease to start the season.

Vantrease should still be a RS Sophmore due to the new rules. If you noticed during the season, Leipold would put Dom Johnson in for mop up duty because he was trying to redshirt Vantrease this year because he couldn’t last year. It’s not because Johnson was the primary backup

So did Vantrease get the redshirt for last year?  Seemed like he played a lot.

  8. I wonder if we will get any indications of what the coaches are thinking about QB prior to Spring practice.  For instance, does it matter which QB coach was part of their recruitment?  Position coaches tend to favor their own recruits, whereas the head coach may have a longer term view.
