This is the problem with the portal.  If he cannot shoot at UB, what would make another coach think he can shoot for them?  As the portal gets "more common" the players will begin to realize that many end up not playing somewhere else or having to drop to Division II or Division III.  When that is realized players will be much less likely to enter the portal.

You underestimate the arrogance of college athletes.

Reading through the UMass forums, their fans are not looking at any rivalry yet. The general view is the midwest conference and distances, and losing A10 basketball. And they 1) often mention UConn as their dream rival 2) mention wanting Delaware to join. So we have to let a rivalry grow organically. I hold a fine grudge as we owe them back this season for beating us in 2015, and no bowl eligibilty.

They're just like us. Similar size, public institution, similar expenditures, exposure, and completely delusional fans. We were meant for each other.

It's 10000000000000% a SUNY thing. SUNY already made a choice to kill athletics in the 1970s. Their track record is not good.

Why is it up to SUNY to determine how much we charge our student body for Athletics? Do they have control over that?

JMU has one of the highest student fees in the country yet their applications have gone up 78% over the last 3 years and they now have more prospective applicants than UB. As usualy, there were the professionally outraged academia folks complaining about the high fees at JMU but overall the school has become more popular due to the success of their athletics programs. UB should take note.

To me it seems we had the perfect opportunity to raise that fee income substantially when we were winning a few years ago. Doing it now would be difficult though.

  4. Let me see if I have this straight.

JMU has 20,346 Undergrads and 1,878 Graduate Students and they get $2,340 out of every student for $52MM.

UB has 21,467 Undergrads and 10,865 Graduate Students and they get $480 out of only the Undergrads for $10.3MM.

If that's the case, therein lies the problem. I hope Graduate Students don't get any perks for Athletic events and are paying full price.

  5. I love the idea of a trophy with UMASS. We're such similar schools and we desparately need something to build student interest and elevate school pride. A rivalry can't hurt and let's face it, despite winning a ton of games in this conference not one MAC school considers us a rival.

But it’s okay for Brooklyn to say nil is not tax deductible?

I remember you, you were the reason I left the board, years ago. I still have pms

I don't remember or even doubt that I said stuff. I'm also sure you're the type of person that's researching posts from deacdes ago to prove a point. I don't really care as I have changed quite a bit since those days and don't have the same passion for this message board that I did back then.

Good lord! How many annoying know-it-alls are there in Buffalo?? Your posts are all so condescending. Just state your opinion and stop telling everyone how the world works.

  8. In my 20+ years on this site, BrooklynBull has never shown any negative or positive bias towards active UB personel so from my perspective your claims are completely unwarranted. The only thing he is guilty of is telling bad jokes about how the secret to winning is scoring more points than the other team.

Remember Shaun Dolac is leaving UB Bulls in Buffalo a NFL city for a school that is number three in their own state of Utah behind BYU and Utah.

I have no idea what being in an NFL city has to do with anything but we are also #3 in our state and our state absolutely sucks for college football.
