  1. It's been nothing but amateur hour with Alnutt. He gave Whitesell an extension in Year 2 that bumped his buyout up $100k and then when we lost again after Year 3 we were stuck with a.)paying $500k to fire JW and restart with a new coach or b.) letting JW stick around to rebuild the team himself. We decided to stick with him, presumably because we didn't have the money, but then fired him the following year after a sub 0.500 season. Not only that, he fired JW 4 weeks before the buyout would have dropped to $400k so we didn't even end up saving any money vs firing him a year earlier! It was a completely wasted season that killed any of the national relevance Oats & Hurley had built.

As if that debacle wasn't enough, it appears we didn't even have a gameplan in place that would explain why we pulled the trigger right before the buyout decrease, since we spent the next 3 weeks enduring one of the worst coaching searches I've ever witnessed. Every day was another story about a coach turning us down (Cohen, McCollum, Calhoun, etc...) or someone claiming we were toxic and refused to pay reasonable salaries. Now, in the end a lot of the chaos turned out to be false but the PR was a nightmare and for that I blame the Athletic Director.

Alnutt is the reason we are where we are. He has made terrible contract decisions at inopportune times, he lacks vision or the ability to communicate effectively, and most importantly he doesn't appear to have an eye for coaching talent. I'm convinced we would be in a much better position with him gone.

Halcovage, on the other hand, still gets more time before we write him off completely.

This will be a great challenge for this team Stony Brook is ranked 20th in the Woman's Mid Major Poll

What the hell is up with that poll? Vermont is 3-4, ranked #255, and doesn't have a win over #166 Quinnipiac, yet they are ranked #23 in the midmajor poll? Our girls are ranked #116 which is higher than 5 teams on this list and we aren't even in the others getting votes section.

I thought Mike Washington's success in his 1st year at Ball Stage last year was a reasonable expectation.....20-12 and 11-7 in MAC. No D-1 wins with many very uncompetitive games and a single victory vs a D2 by a couple is no reason for optimism. Hitting the panic button is more than reasonable.

Ball State returned 8 guys last year that were responsible for 73% of their scoring the year prior. Not to mention, they got Jarron Coleman back from Missouri and he went on to lead the team in just about every category, It's a very different scenario.

    This team isn’t entirely new.

What? There are only 4 players on the team that returned from last season. We lost 74% of our point production, 71% of rebounding, 83% of our assists, and 77% of our steals. Kanye Jones is the only guard we have left from last year and he barely saw action. And those 4 players who returned? Well, so far they have all increased their points, rebounds, and assists per game and now contribute nearly 50% of the team's total scoring.

This team is brand new and it's wayyyy too early to spout off on Halcovage with such a fresh roster. The only valid complaint I've heard is that he didn't pick up a solid guard to run the point. This conference is ubilt on guard play and for the first time since I can remember our top 3 scorers are all Forwards.

The defense got trounced up to and including Louisiana. They definitely got better against the weak sisters of the MAC, but we still got gashed again last night on the same play we got gashed on all season. I do not let the defense off the hook this season in any way, shape or form. The defense gave up more points (40) to Fordham than they did to Wisconsin (38). We gave up 55 to Liberty and 45 to Louisiana. The offense scored 17-37-27-38 in those 4 losses. Our 3 wins came against teams that were 8-25 overall (Note Central Michigan was 5-6, so the other two were 3-19 combined). There are no passes this year.

I would say our offense going 3-out over and over may have contributed to the defense getting gashed. They weren't great, but they were better than the offense.

  6. I think someone said it on here before but perhaps we should avoid hiring longtime assistants from big programs that have never experienced the unique challenges of being a head coach. Mo and Halcovage both fit that mold and seem to be learning on the job. Are we really a testing ground for first time head coaches? Why can't we steal and up and comer from a school in a smaller conference like the NEC?

    Last 4 years:

    70-49 - JW

    78-47 - Boals

One is talked about like a king on here, one was talked about like a chump at every turn. Again, while nowhere near Nate (neither are close), the team was respectable every year. If last year's team played the soft schedule of this year's team, they'd have been close to 20 wins. Instead, they played Colgate, JMU, Uconn, Drake, Tulane, WVU, Michigan State.

We can compare things in all sorts of ways, but the days of top 25 are looking to be long gone, never to return. Previously, we were at least able to watch the game without desiring putting on a brown paper bag over our faces. Sadly, football is looking that way too, 14-22 in the last 3 years.

I'm not going to bother with another round of why that comparison is complete garbage, but I will say that everything you're saying is insanely premature. We have no idea what Halcovage can build over time. We just know that this team is a hot mess right now - 4 flippin' games into the new coach's career. I've always held the opinion that a coach gets 3 years to prove that the program is on an upward trajectory. The previous administration failed to do that. This administration deserves more time to prove they can right the ship.

Unless this isn't about Halcovage at all and you just want to yell "I told you so!" to make yourself feel better.

  8. You're asking "Was Whitesell better than Halcovage?" when you should be asking "Were Whitesell and Halcovage both bad choices?". Whitesell teams regressed every year and halted any national recognition that we had built, while Halcovage appears to be driving the nail in the coffin. Either way, these were both Alnutt hires so imo your complaint is misdirected.

Overall, I still think it's wayyyyyy too early to go crazy about Halcovage. We don't know what we have yet. You can't be cheerleading to keep Whitesell after his 4th year of failing but jumping down Halcovage's throat after 4 games.

How about the Sabres tickets. Some of the tickets for the game last night were over $200 and have talked to people about the food prices that are atrocious.

Sabres have like the 3rd lowest ticket prices in the NHL. They even offered $21 per ticket pricing on Okposo's 1,000th game night, yet there were still over 4k empty seats. Maybe they sold out the cheap tickets and nobody was willing to pay for higher priced seats, but the problem isn't the ticket pricing. The problem is that Buffalo doesn't have the economy to support 2 major pro teams.

If this were an NFL team, I would say they are going for a draft pick. This offense cannot really be what they practice every week. Do the WR even run down the field anymore? Snyder had thrown for over 5,000 yards, did he all of a sudden forget how to throw? What the hell is this coaching staff doing? They have nothing to lose, let’s run something real for God sake!

They run a simple offense and it seems to work. Then they get fancy with trickery and it all falls apart. They appear to be outthinking themselves.

  11. This is amateur hour for our offense and the play calling reminds me of Hohfer. We moved the ball repeatedly with simple runs between the tackles and then decide to go with trickery on the direct snap and the stupid ass backup qb run plays. We destroyed the entire drive.
That was a joke. Hohfer used to do the same shit. Run the ball fir 5 yards a carry with Philip Warren all the way to the red zone then go with some bs misdirection to throw them off. It never works and our OC should be fired.

  12. Any predictions here? Miami lost their QB Gabbert a few games ago and he took their entire passing attack with him. The new guy has only 153 yards passing the last 2 games combined, yet they won both by running it over 40x. How good is our run defense and do we have any chance stopping them?
