Length and athleticism is more important than height…agreed.

Am I missing something? I thought Jack had length and athleticism and was highly efficient with the ball down low. He just sucked at keeping players in front of him defensively and ended up reaching in for fouls. I will admit though, I spaced out for most of the second half of the season.

Houston, Miami, Penn state, and Missouri are some notable tourney teams who get essentially no minutes from anyone over 6'8". Nick Perkins was pretty good at 6'8". Quibbling about a matter of inches on listed heights wasn't my main point. The point is that he values skill over being a big body. Recruiting in the D1 pool maybe it ends up being 6'8" and 6'9" guys, but he's not going to completely change his system to retain Isaac Jack.

I'm no basketball expert but I can't imagine not having a single big on your roster at the D1 level and although Jack struggled on the defensive end, he appeared highly efficient on the offensive side of the ball. I thought efficiency was the biggest deal in McCollum's offense.

If Ben ends up coaching the Bulls, I will for sure become a fan and follow the team. I doubt I make it to very many games though. 🤣  He's taken the NW program to heights that I don't think any of us could have imagined in our wildest of wild dreams, so he deserves the chance to move on and prove himself at the next level... I will definitely be rooting for that success to continue when and wherever that may be.

Out of curiosity, what happened in this year's tourney with the early exit? Did So Nazarene just catch fire at the right time? Looks like they shot like 60% in that game.

  4. The good news is that time will tell which side was right. Over the next few years we'll get to see what Hodgson is made of to determine if we made the right call or completely effed this thing up. Let's just hope whoever we end up hiring does a better job because there will be naysayers complaining for years if we can't compete to his Ark St team.

Yeah, Oats really builds team culture. If your teammate asks you to drive your gun over to you at 1am knowing that you've been drinking, you should 100% do it, because that's what Coach would want. 🙂

Whitesell wasn't exactly an alter boy there as well given that one of our players stabbed a rival in his 2nd year as coach.

  6. Funny that we're talking about Zid posting his dunks on social media after losses and 2 years ago we were talking about Graves doing the same thing. Sounds like the hallmark of the Whitesell era. Loads of talent but no discipline or team mentality - a stark contrast to what Oats built.

  7. The Spectrum is reporting that AD Alnutt decided to fire Whitesell immediately rather than wait a month for the buyout to drop by $100k. I don't think you do that unless you have some names in mind that you want to jump on before other jobs open up. I am glad he pulled the trigger and opted against frugality. I hope an announcement comes soon.

I don't think it was ever going to be Hodgson. Too much baggage from the last go 'round and maybe too much baggage from the current 'Bama situation. As fans, we can be more romantic about the good ol' days than the decision makers are

Imagine what will happen though if our choice strikes out and BH wins some games at Ark St.

AD needs to pick a good one here.

For example, there’s no excuse why the game against Colgate only drew less than 2k. Why? I think the MAC has tried to step up with having games on a Friday night. All games are televised and some end up on ESPNU or CBSSN.

Point made but Colgate averages fewer than a thousand people to their own home games. They aren't a great example.

UB Bulls football needs to grow there brand the more the merrier. UB is getting no where with there high football ticket prices and a empty stadium weekly the whole world sees that every week on the ESPN family of networks an empty UB Stadium that looks terrible on television gloomy dark the stadium needs more lighting.

"The more the merrier". Who do you recommend we pull in as fans since this town is obviously enamored with Pro Sports? Maybe a campaign to reach out to the huge alumni base that exists outside of WNY? Like a campaign to win over those folks that reside in the fourth largest state in the country yet don't have a major public school to root for? Like, an initiative of some sort to gain support for our Bulls across New York?

Agree. All blowouts and the fan attendance is disappointing. I believe the MAC signed an extension with Rocket Mortgage early in the year and can’t remember for how long?? They have to be taking a bath with the attendance and overall terrible games. Is it the cost for fans and overall excitement level or are older fans like us losing our excitement level due to what is happening at both the college and pro level.

Want to know a quick way to alienate fans? Have your Semis, Quarters, and Championship game all on separate TV networks... way to go, MAC. What an effing joke!

Today is the day. Whitesell's buyout just dropped $100k.

This upcoming year is now a complete rebuild. If we don't fire him now, I can't imagine how bad it's going to feel in 12 months when we end up winning only a handful of games. Why prolong the inevitable execution and dig an even bigger hole just to save another $100k in buyout?

Let's start fresh and give someone else the chance to run this rebuild.

I eagerly await April 6 to reiterate my comments from a year ago.

It’s impossible for any other SUNY school to be better…UB is NY’s Public Powerhouse. It says it right on the court!

Just think where we would be right now if we had somehow managed to keep the team in the top 50-100 the past 4 years given the mess happening in Syracuse. This was such a swing and a miss by the administration.

Do we know if the 26k at The Ralph was inflated by the same percentage that the 22k was a UB stadium.

What would a recruit from Texas/Florida prefer? A school that averages less than their high school in snowy conditions in a town that doesn't GAF? Perhaps Danny White was doing it for a reason despite once again having this entire backwards town against him.

Yeah I agree that alum attendance is dismal. It’s been a big issue that people come to the buffalo area for college and then leave for elsewhere. UB is trying to start campaigning for people to stay in buffalo, things like ads on busses and whatnot. I’m from Rochester myself and don’t really watch local news here while I’m in school, so genuine question here. Do local stations ever talk about UB sports? Back home the sports people always talked about Syracuse, but do they do that here? North campus is a little bit of a hike for some people in buffalo, I feel like some exciting ads and news sections would be the only way to motivate the community to come.

Most of our Alums leave WNY and UB does very little to keep them engaged with their alma mater beyond sending brochures or calling asking for money. I live in New England and I can't even join the Alumni Association Chapter in Boston because the link on our website just leads to a disabled Facebook page. The entire site is devoted to the theme "Boldly Buffalo" so it's obvious they are only focusing their attention locally. The school abandons you the second you leave WNY so perhaps that contributes to the alums also abandoning the school.
