Do we know of any recruits the team was/is in contact with that are still available?

I noticed 3 coaches followed Eric Hamilton . He was an efficient reserve big man on a good UNC Greensboro team that decided to grad transfer. He'd be #1 on my list right now.

Where can you get a big at this juncture ready to play now? That is a tall ask.

Just unfortunate that we had three stud posts in our class prior to NO departure. At least we have Skogman- I think he will need to bulk up but is a sure fire all conference guy down the road.

I think you'd be surprised. The #12 JUCO player just Decommited from Texas Tech today for example. I don't think we're necessarily in play for him but there's talent still out there and I'm sure there will continue to be ripple effect until a while after the draft pool is finalized. It's late in the recruiting cycle for players just as it is for teams.

I don't think talent pool is the issue, the bigger issue to me it seems is that our ability to land high level recruits has been predicated on coaches building relationships with players early and staying in contact. We don't really have time on our side but Skogman and Nickelberry were solid pulls on short notice. Regardless of what the rest of the class turns out like I'm optimistic for future classes.

I'm not sure that conferences with Net rankings of 14, 18 an 21 make the MVC, CAA and Horizon on par or better than the 9th ranked MAC.

MVC has been ranked ahead of the MAC 14/18 seasons with KP data. Horizon 11/18, and CAA 7/18. Granted they've each lost one of their top teams to a better conference but that arguably strengthens his point about the strength of their conferences.

    3.  On this thread (and maybe other threads) people are using CJ (and Perk) as examples of how lightly recruited / low star recruits can turn into great players.  And then use that as a pass for a player like Gallion.  Sure...that can happen.  But I can provide you with a laundry list of lightly recruited players UB has had on their roster in the pre-Hurley days that didn't move the needle at all.  So CJ and Perk are exceptions to the rule.  You can't expect that to happen and you should not expect it to happen.  Part of it was also development that the staff did on those guys (CJ and Perk) to get them to where they were (which are now UB basketball legends).  I hope the current staff can keep the momentum going with that development, but the best way to have a good basketball team is to get very talented players.

I don't think that the takeaway is that he's lightly recruited therefore he is CJ.  At least my point was that there is still talent out there and it can't be disregarded due to lack of offers.  There's a lot of room between CJ (#1 player on a top 25 team) and a useful player on a MAC contender.  The reality is that Gallion is the caliber of player that most mid-majors are after and there are plenty of solid players in the mid major ranks.  Gallion picked up 3 of his 5 offers after a big showing at a showcase for the best players available so at least 3 teams feel they uncovered a diamond in the rough, and the Illinois St. offer shouldn't be disregarded as they've been a top 100 team more often than not for over a decade.  While he doesn't have high major offers I'd be curious to know how many high majors were at this event looking for diamonds in the rough this late in the process.  The staff landed two high major talent pedigrees and then their third priority was Gallion and as of now they deserve the benefit the doubt in my opinion.  If our recruiting class on short notice is a Memphis transfer via JUCO, a skilled 3 star Center, a G with D1 shooting ability from day 1, and whatever happens with the last two scholarships that's pretty solid given the circumstances.

By no means am I “mad”, but rather voicing my confusion as to why this talented prospect would choose a school that isn’t remotely a contender. I’m sorry you had to jump to a conclusion at someone on a forum who you don’t know lmao.

I too love saying a kid doing what's best for him is "wasting his time" because he didn't choose my beloved school and noted national title contender, Buffalo.  This is how I act when I'm confused and very not mad.

Even if that's not what you meant, I've seen enough of it on Twitter at our recruits and I'd imagine the people that care enough to tweet that care enough to read this forum.  People gotta relax it makes all UB fans look bad.

Makes sense for him to go to a basketball program that went 11-21 last season. Won’t be long till he’s in the transfer portal after wasting his time on a bottom feeder PAC-12 team. Cheers, Noah!

Is there a reason you're this mad at an 18 year old that you don't know lmao.  He gets to play in a major conference in his home state, where his dad also played.  Good for him.

Do we actually have a shot at him? Thought he said we weren’t being considered anymore.

I hope so because with Agee and White off the board I don't know of any other big men that we're connected to. Right now our players over 6'8" (Bertram, Fagan, Skogman) have a combined 69 (nice) points at the D1 level and I don't think Fagan is really a big man at this level. I'd like to see us land another quality big, Allen or not, and have them and Skogman rotate at the 5 with Williams and Nickelberry taking the majority of the 4 minutes with Skogman possibly stealing some.

From his own snap chat, it looks like he will be joining UB.

He was at practice today and in UB apparel, and taking his shots for his jersey release.

    I'd almost say it's signed/sealed/delivered.

Hopefully you're right but I feel like this is standard stuff.  I'd imagine you just never see the jersey pics of the kids that don't commit.  He's still got two official visits this week but maybe we're well above the other two in his mind.

  9. Nickelberry is a wing but he's plenty capable of handling the ball, I was watching his interviews and he said the player comp he gets the most is Shaun Livingston because he plays like a tall PG. Our guard depth isn't a concern to me if Segu is a 4th ball handler after Jordan, Johnson, and Nickelberry.

Men's basketball came in 4th.  Look at the first post.

Dollars raised does not equal number of donations. I'm guessing track and field at least got theirs mostly from 1 or 2 donations.

Hopefully this is because all the donors don’t care about this event and just will donate at other times.

Yeah like the crowd funding basic stuff for the teams, I don't think that this is really aimed at the big $ donors, as much as it's about trying to get new donors involved.  Athletics still received the greatest number of donations (extra 7.5k), and I'd guess MBB makes up a decent portion of that.
