  1. This board is insufferable now. Used to be fun but the program’s success has brought nothing but a bitch fest unless we win by 20 every game. I don’t want to be mellow dramatic so I’m not going to start my own thread but I’m done here. I’ll keep rooting for the team and our players, just without the company of miserable posters. Horns up, always.

Way too much negativity. Despite shooting poorly, no contribution from Nate, and getting out rebounded we’re right in this game! We’ve held onto the ball vs a great defensive team, on their court! The rebounding numbers will even out, shots will start to fall, and Nate will get his. We’ll pull this game out in the second half

Thats par for the course here. I wish they didn’t stretch the lead in the last couple minutes but other than that it was a decent half. Just need more shots to fall

So what’s the deal with this game being on tv anywhere maybe direct tv? Is it only online at nbcsports.com?

You should be able to watch on your phone/tablet/laptop via the nbc sports app if you have a cable subscription with nbc sports. I think. NBC’s sports wing is a convoluted mess right now with nbc sports, nbc gold, peacock, etc, and none of them seemingly connected to the others

Hi guys.  Glad to see the program you don't care about has three threads on your board.  I guess the Point Park and St. John Fisher games aren't moving the needle?  I expect a good game on Saturday.  This series is good for both schools.  If you guys would ever ditch football I think you would be a good addition to the Atlantic 10.  From an outsider perspective I think that would be a good move for you, but that is for you to decide.  See some of you maybe on Saturday

Not our fault one guy bumped them all to the top from last year lol. I’d love to play in the A10 but not at the expense of football. I just can’t bring myself to say best of luck, but I do appreciate you being civil here 🙂

Good first half. No bench points which is still a concern. It’s nice to be up 15 but we have to get more production from other guys on the squad and not just have 4 guys scoring. Either way, let’s finish strong.

True, but Skogman is only a starter as of an hour ago lol

It's not just yesterday's loss IMO. Whitesell's teams have consistently played below expectations. I suppose it's possible that expectations have been too high. It's a tough act to follow for Whitesell. He will always be compared to Oats and will always fall well short in any measurement.

I don’t really disagree with this. I think I’m just more empathetic towards Whitesell and the job he’s done. No matter who it was that followed Oats, they were going to have an uphill climb. The difference for me is that Whitesell was able to keep the entire team together. I really doubt a different candidate would’ve been able to bring in better than Williams/Segu/Graves/Mballa, though obviously we’ll never know for sure. Year 1 saw growing pains, year 2 was an improvement getting to the MAC championship and then the NIT, now we’re in year 3. If we make the tournament we’ll have improved every year under his coaching. If that trajectory is a disappointment then I’m of the opinion that expectations were too high from the start. We’ve been spoiled with high major coaches in Hurley and Oats, and I think people underestimate the risk of trying to hire that again from outside the program. Look at football, Linguist was the best get possible when Leipold left and were still seeing major growing pains and have taken a step back in the short term.

That team started hot, plowed through almost everyone they fasted, faltered, fixed it and looked great in March.

This team looks the same as they have looked the past 2 years.

In a couple months we’ll have a lot more clarity regarding that. This is the year they need to make the tournament, I think everyone agrees on that. Just seems weird that people are throwing in the towel after one loss.

Back again to be talked off the ledge. Right now it feels like we may see wasted senior campaigns of Jordan, Graves, Segu, Williams and Mballa.

Let's defend the hire with logical reasoning in this thread.

Last nights loss was tough, but let’s not act like it’s a wasted season because of one non conference loss. If people thought we’d be getting an at large they were kidding themselves. At the end of the season if they underperform and don’t make the tournament I’ll understand the pessimism completely. But for now I’m going to enjoy the games and not obsess over every speed bump. Even Oats 30 win team had their stinkers, I seem to remember losing to the worst team in the conference northern Illinois

So back to this thread for a moment.  We all want the best team year in and year out.  It was mentioned on this board that sooner or later we will be getting a new coach.  What is the strategy that would be best for picking coaches to optimize success going forward?  Do we always look to promote from within?  If so, do we have someone on the current staff?  Do we do to some team what the P5s do to us - look for someone who has success at a level lower and pluck them for us?  How do you identify that potential?  Looking at Boals results at Stony Brook  (AE 31 -17) in three years vs Steve Pikiell was (AE 39-9) the three years prior the drop off is comparable from Oats to Whitesell in terms of record.  What would you say Boals had on his resume at Stony Brook that made him a good candidate and could predict his success?

I think it’s highly dependent on how Whitesell does here. If we stay at or near the top of the MAC, make semi regular tournament appearances, and he ends up retiring or leaving, I would think promotion from within is absolutely on the table. If the program dips and he ends up getting let go, I think they look outside via search firm like they always do. I think all that is common sense, to be honest
