Niagara is obviously grooming him to become a successful coach at UB in the future.

Fun sarcasm, but I could really care less what Niagara does. Good luck to them, but if our program reaches the heights we're envisioning, he'd need another stop in between them and us in 5 years.

Hope we don't end up regretting this...

Nice hire for Niagara, but I don't think we should be worried about the hire at a KenPom 300s ranked, 3000 undergrad local Catholic school. If we're concerning ourselves with that, then we surely haven't risen to the level that many believe us to have.

Even though it could be a matter of semantics, this is reassuring to me. I'd like to think that UB Head Coach is a better job than Assistant Coach at Alabama, but for a while today I was feeling like Oats would take Hodgson if that's what he wanted.

It's really hire Hodgson at this point if we want to keep any of this momentum going. The program isn't a destination yet, nor is the brand. The people and the talent are the special pieces and we've still got plenty at the moment.

There are rumors online that he was interviewing with different schools while in Tulsa getting ready for the games.

Any sources/links on these two? Not doubting just curious.

Fair point but allow me to counter with this...

Maybe Alabama’s AD would want a more experienced staff around Nate bc Nate is inexperienced at in terms of SEC play? Who knows where Hodgson fits in there if he even does.

Hodgson would slot into the 3rd or 4th chair, focusing on recruiting and culture building...sound familiar?

No guarantee these guys come either. Pretty unlikely even depending on who we hire.

Agreed. I'm working under the assumption that Hodgson takes over and keeps the team and recruiting picture mostly intact. Not ready to consider the scorched earth scenario yet...

  7. "@scottybscout: East St Louis defeats Bogan for 3A State Title 68-63. Rashaun Agee 24 pts 14 reb. Antoine Bloxton 10. Kyndall Davis 7 pts"

I still really like this kid. Likely significant untapped potential coming from under-resourced Chicago public schools. I'm surprised he only has offers from us, NIU and a handful of low-majors. The geographic Michigans and others in the MAC would be smart to check in with him.

  8. I think Coach is here to stay unless one of these teams that could conceivably have an opening comes calling, whether this year or five years from now. These are based on a combination of factors including location, pedigree, and size of market. Anywhere else feels like a lateral move with less job security.

ACC: Carolina, Miami, Cuse (hate to say, could make sense for them though), Notre Dame

    SEC: Mizzou

B1G: MSU (hate to say again, but this is my gut for 2020-21 after Izzo retires, which would be awesome for Nate), Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, OSU, Indiana

    BIG12: Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor

Big East: Nothing comes to mind

I'm staying positive about the situation, but still if I were an AD at one of these schools, Coach would be the #1 target on my radar. He's got it all, media savvy, intensity, face of the program, young enough to build for decades, experience with kids from tough backgrounds, and maybe the most underappreciated trait, a feel for numbers, patterns, and analytics.

This is just for the fun (and therapy) of speculation. I want Coach to stay as much as anyone and thankfully what we post here will have no influence on what comes to be.

  9. Hawkins Instagram full of videos from their day trip to Niagara Falls (wearing a UB jacket) flashing horns up, joking about the snow. Seems like they're having a fun weekend.

We shouldn't underestimate the pull that Rondo and Jeenathan have, as popular social media star and big time AAU circuit/west coast prep, respectively. They were chopping it up with Hawkins and Williams a bunch after the game. Could lead to some recruiting coups in coming years.

    These are two blue-chip prospects.

We will go to Agee/T. Williams if either of these two chooses elsewhere.

Getting into the final 2 for Noah is awesome. Although we have an uphill battle with Washington. Though Williams has a really good shot to get time here ASAP.

It appears that way. Although Noah Williams hasn't jumped off the screen in video to me. Not that you have to be a super athlete in the MAC to succeed. Tujuate Williams just has the bounce and amplitude that screams high-level mid-majora wing defender.

Agree that Agee seems a backup to Big Hawk (going with a nickname already). Front court definitely needs some beef next year. Rojas is a 3/stretch 4, while Allen is a floor-running 4.

  11. @JonRothstein Sources: 2019 prospects Raymond Hawkins and Noah Williams will officially visit Buffalo this weekend for Bulls' tilt against Bowling Green. Game is sold out.

We knew Hawkins was coming, but this is the first I'm hearing Williams as well. Great news. Although I am still intrigued by Agee who is dominating for Bogan as they advance in the Illinois State tourney.
