I gotta say Alumni Arena looked really good on TV today. Part of it was the high production value of ESPNU but our arena looked pretty legit on TV.

At the game the cameraman had an ESPN+ branded camera. I wonder at what point we move up to having an ESPNU branded camera.

Big 4 Update: UB primed for HUGE conference battle with Toledo

    Guys,

I can't put into words how bummed I was when Toledo lost to Ball State on Friday. It really shouldn't matter to me but I was hoping for the sake of Tuesday's game at Alumni Arena that both teams would be 13-1 overall with UB ranked and the Rockets receiving votes, entering on an 11-game winning streak.

That would've made for one of the largest MAC regular season matchups in recent history.

Unfortunately, Toledo lost and the rest is history.

Kind of like when Syracuse lost at home to Old Dominion right before we played them. Seems to be a recurring theme.

All these rankings are designed either purposely or not to favor the power conferences. They are not designed to ever reward mid majors. Its maddening. Like in football how can Central Florida go undefeated 2 straight years and not even have a chance to be champions? Why even play if you have ZERO chance to even play for a championship even by winning every game??? And they have the balls to tell us it's all about the student athlete.  Shameful.

Except in basketball we do control our fate to some degree and if we win the conference championships and the next 6 we will be the national champions.

Still here. Yes I enjoyed our debates years ago! Reggie fan but I was there at Alumni clapping Hurley's introdution as head coach by Danny White..and I had deep hate for Hurley (Duke-hater since I can remember).

I was wrong to think he deserved more time after 2012. The time was right, he got us as far as he could. I see he runs that same weave-hand off offense..meh.

A lot of fans were fine making the CBI or CIT year in and year out. Now that we’ve tasted the big leagues it would be tough to go back.

That was the most disingenuous I’ve ever seen Reggie be.

When’s the last time they sold out a game? Hosted a ranked team?

Oh, and it happens to be the team that let you go?

    That was silly.

He's actually really embarrassed about his situation. I don't think he wanted to schedule this game but was basically forced due to the Big 4.

Crowd - a great turnout by UB fans, because there hasn't been some times in the past for this game.  But that was one of the most lifeless sellout crowds I can remember.  It was hard to unite several different groups of UB fans, but even when my brother and I tried to make some noise, few if any joined.  Too many people comfortable just observing.  Enjoy this team!  There is no better time to live it up than in their gym, when their fans do nothing.  We're better than this - but anyone is better than C-Block, which was nonexistent.  Canisius finally has some of their own students playing in a small band, which is an improvement over the high school kids they used to import to do the job.

Maybe it was where you were sitting but from section 1 the crowd was loud and UB fans in particular outshone their Canisius brothers. Even the cheerleaders seemed upset that the crowd only cheered when UB scored.

No one cares about the Big 4. That is a made up term by the Buffalo News.

Actually it's a lot of fun and should be played up more. I saw Canisius had a sign for this specific rivalry and called it the Battle for Main St. The schools could do even more to hype it up. For example, have the UB team take the subway from the South Campus to the game (similar to how the Mets went to one of their subway series at the Yankees). The city could hold a train just for UB and deck it out in colors, etc...The next year when Canisius come to UB, do the same and then take the bus from the South Campus to Alumni Arena.

  8. Reggie should have used this as a learning opportunity. Hopefully he’ll examine what Nate does that he doesn’t do and learn from it. Spoon was good at bringing the UB program to a winning level. He consistently got the team into the CBI and CIT. A lot of folks on this board were happy with that. UB made the right decision and wanted more. Canisius has done fine under Reggie. Sure enough they’ve consistently made the CBI and CIT. Is that enough for them?

Honestly the only way this season can take away from their accomplishments is if they end up in the NIT, but its the MAC. You go like 28-3 with a finals loss to Toledo in OT or something... it could happen. And you know what, in that scenario Im rooting for an NIT title. (ok maybe lets now go down that path yet but im just sayin)

We should all be upset if UB goes 28-3, loses to Toledo in OT in the championship and doesn't get an at-large but both WVU and Syracuse do (and you know they will).
