All the talk now is rightfully about the conference version of Hunger Games, but I ultimately see this as an NCAA issue.

With football revenue driving the decisions, at some point someone will say "Why split it with the NCAA?" I could easily see a separate football body of four 16 - team conferences and the NCAA left with basketball, baseball and the Olympic sports. And the lesser football schools. With a much smaller pot of money.

If I'm the NCAA, I'd be very nervous about all of the Fox/ESPN/conference back room meetings.

If schools leave the NCAA for football, would the NCAA let them participate in NCAA basketball/March Madness? That could be their negotiating power.

  2. I root for Binghamton because I went there undergrad.  They will probably get destroyed by Vermont tonight haha. It is a very different frame of reference rooting for them than UB.  They are currently ranked 283 on kenpom which is actually pretty good for them.  They have been 300+ for awhile. I was there for their AE chanpionship in 2008 and they havent done anything since. I am interested to hear who else you guys root for, and how different it is based on their situation (High P5, Low P5, High mid-major, Low mid-major, non-D1)

If we can’t get the 3 then it would seem we are stuck in the 4/5. So does this make tonight’s game meaningless?

I thought if we won and a few games went our way then we could get the 2 but I am not sure

    Finally got 100% confirmation.

Buffalo can’t be the 3-seed. There will be no multiple team tiebreakers with unbalanced records. In Kent State, Ohio, Buffalo scenariO, they’ll break the 15-5 tie first betwen Kent and Ohio which Kent wins. Then it would be 15-5 Ohio vs. 14-5 Buffalo, which Ohio wins.

    What seeds could we get?

One thing that let the game get out of hand last night were the early fast break layups by Toledo when Buffalo was missing shots and not getting the offensive rebound.  Seems like the coaches will need a plan for this if they are able to get a rematch.  Ohio should be thinking about the same thing if they make it to finals against Toledo.

The announcers hit on this.  We are a good offensive rebounding team so we have a couple of guys crashing the boards regularly.  When we dont get the rebound, we are very vulnerable to a fast break because not as many guys dropped back as the shot is up.

Time for the team to show that they can hang with the top of the league. Big time game. Very excited to see how we play. Also, how we aren’t ranked in the top 25 mid major rankings is baffling.

There are so many teams ahead of us there that are way below us in Kenpom.  I know Kenpom isnt definite rankings but still

Of the 3, I could see Segu back possibly. Mballa and Williams will definitely get a sniff at the G League or overseas. Segu likely will too, but he's a bit undersized so it's possible he could return. I don't think it's likely however. I also didn't think James Patterson would be back or Q at WR, but I was wrong there.

Anyone want odds Brock finds a way back?  haha

Lol a part of the fanbase really is conditioned to expect the worst. Y'all are obviously free to hold your breath until he gets to campus, but I've enjoyed checking in on his senior season. Other programs' boards constantly update on their commits' seasons. We speculate that our coach is skipping practices.

I guess this is why I try to keep people posted on what our lone commit is up to? He seems to have really bought in to the program. I'd be shocked at a decommitment.

Just today his Instagram story is a video of him from his visit at Niagara Falls with a countdown clock at 4 months 9 days until he gets to Buffalo.

It wasnt at all about Devin Ceaser personally.  Just generally college athletes commit and de-commit fairly often unfortunately.

Not when it comes to athletics.  I know people who were working at Stony Brook when they were moving from Division III to Division I.  The only thing that has changed is that they get mentioned when they were in the America East championship game.  Otherwise absolutely nothing in the media, even with their move to the CAA.

I agree.  I live on Long Island and nothing is mentioned of them.  Even when they changed conferences, I only found out because of an alert on my phone.  No mention on sports talk radio.  I occasionally hear adds for St. Johns or Rutgers, but very few people talking about them either.  And they are way higher on the food chain than Stony Brook.

Yes, but just like the player we just picked up from Texas A&M, this fan has committed to, and decommited from, a handful of other schools in the past.  I won't count him as a fan until he has his ass in a seat (or on a cold metal bench) at UB Stadium.

I hope he doesn't commit here.  He plays the same fan position I do and might cut into my message board time.

I don't think so...here is part of explanation that suggests only D1 opponents considered

I thought this was part of explanation why we scheduled PP and SJF, because they didn't hurt our NET.  I suppose you could play a low D1, and run up the score.

That was my understanding as well.  It is cheaper than bringing a low D1 opponent, and doesn't affect our NET/Kenpom/etc.. rankings.  A D1 opponent could help but we would have to win by like 30 and we already have a lot of quad IV games in conference play.

Do non-d1 games count in our overall record?
